For those that haven't had time to sit down and discuss pool with Charlie "Hillbilly" Bryant, you really need to. Especially if you love pool and want our SPORT to grow and be recognized.

THe man is as passionate about the game and the direction it goes as anyone I've ever met. He also some kind of OCD that he writes down notes about his self discoveries, lessons learned, and failures to learn from over the course of several years both in pool and in life.

The culmination is his Manuscript, a detailed tome of thoughts and approaches to the world of pool as a professional, a player, and a fan. It's a huge undertaking for him to spread his vision of pool and what it will take to bring legitimacy to the professional world, and it's an undertaking he is willing to take everyday.

The Manuscript is huge literally. And it's a ton of information for the average fan and player. But, if you get an opportunity to talk to Charlie about it, he will overwhelm you with the information he has to offer, but it will be worth it. The more people that get on the same page as he is, the better we as pool players will be for it.

He has lots of plans for the future including producing a video in two volumes-one is about the technical aspects of the game and other is all about his psychological/philosophical aspects of all his thoughts and experiences he has gone thru in relation to the pool game.The manuscript he has been carrying with him is very detailed and huge.
 
It's always encouraging when the better known players of the game take on an ambassador role to promote the sport to the masses.

Charlie has been collecting that manuscript for a very long time. I had a long conversation with him about his book a few years ago. I got the feeling that organizing that mountain of information was a bit overwhelming for Charlie. I hope he's able to get it edited because from the way he was talking it was going to be a very good book with a lot of great information.

I agree with that idea of getting edited.I will talk to him about it today.
 
The manuscript has been edited once already, and is in book form. I saw it in Derby City, and briefly looked through it. It would take a month to read through throroughly!:eek: It does have a lot of interesting information, and Charlie is a great guy!

Charlie's book is basically done and is just trying to find the right way to publish it. I imagine someone like Freddy could possibly steer him in the right direction.
 
Getting a publisher to print his book shouldn't be too difficult, Charlie just has to give up most of the proceeds. His book would probably not become a million seller, because there aren't a million pool players that know him or want to read anything, so a small percent of the proceeds wouldn't net Charlie very much cash.

Charlie could however get his book printed & self publish it. Distribution through Amazon.com or ebay would generate sales. Some initial interest & funds would come quickly from his fans, through the Billiard forums .
 
I would be one of the first in line to pick up a copy. I talked with Charlie briefly several years back at DCC. In just 20 minutes of conversation I was able to see the passion he has for the game. Very intense person at times with alot to say. Really nice guy and down to earth!
 
Charlie and I sat down briefly yesterday and I was able to leaf through his manuscript and talk a little about it with him. He said he would have set his price at $39-$49 (well worth it and I would have paid that) but he heard the magic number was $20, so he is thinking of splitting it up into 2 volumes, with the 2nd volume being for the more advanced player, and selling for $20 each. The bound manuscript was about 2 1/2" thick and he said he was going to self-publish it so the publishers wouldn't take all the money.

Seeing this post is really ironic because i thought about posting something similar. Two years ago at DCC a buddy of mine and i were standing outside when this gentleman came up to us and began discussing billiards and different aspects of the game as if he had known us for years (we werent sure who he was at the time). After about 20 minutes or so of discussing phenalic tips (and his hatred of them), kicking systems and the direciton of pool, i was given an amazing insight into the mind of someone who truly cares about this game and its image. After finally learning his name was Charlie and following him back in to watch his match, i knew that this was someone who would go extremely far, not just in pool but in life as well. We could only wish for more ambassadors to represent this game who are as passionate and dedicated as Mr. Bryant. I only wish him the best.
