Cincyman's ebony sneaky...

Right off the bat...you just do not see all that many ebony full splices (sneaky pete type)....ebony is getting VERY expensive, and many makers are beginning to reserve it for their higher end cues.Your saying expensive ebony makes an awesome cue? Ebony pete blanks are not overly expensive. You are right about not seeing many of them.

I have owned fancy cues in the past....but in the last couple of years, I come to have a love affair with the full splice cue...both with veneers and without. A lot of work goes into these cues, not to mention the waste in materials....these cues are terribly under-appreciated by many.I agree

I know for some, this type of cue....especially when very well crafted...harkens us back to a day when we all first picked up a barstick and approached the table the first time.....at which point the hook was pretty much set! :banghead:

Lastly....ebony into maple just plain looks good!! Perhaps not as good as Brazilian does, but I would guess it comes in a very close second!!! :smile2:
You said ebony into maple just looks good(and I agree), not looks awesome.

Lisa

I didn't specifically mean this cue, I hear about a lot of simple or plain cues being called awesome.

I am ready now... an_popcorn.gif

another reason I don't think you see many is they tend to be butt heavy imho.

Nice simple looking cue. Too bad it took so long to get, sure that will keep you from keeping it very long.

Inlays in a Varney cue  ?
I would say that's ringwork...

I goofed :) lol, I was thinking ringwork and wound up saying inlays instead, (the reason for which escapes me completely)

exactly right.tought to get the weight and balance point right on these without drilling into the butt.

At 19 oz or heavier they are pretty to manipulate.
Thick front, skinny handle and big pin.
You can also drop some powdered tungsten below the pin mixed with epoxy before pinning.
They hit a ton.
No A-joint metal to potentially rattle later on.
Great thing if you have a Duff blank is, you know it's old.
I think they're more valuable than most plane janes out there.
I have two butterfly Duffs right now sent by Jazz.

doesn't look like a Dufferin to me.just saying it is tough to get that cue under 19oz with a 19" balance point.

fist off i'd like to say i think the cue does look good.

mason varney did say he started a dufferen blank but the points didn't come out right or something so he used a different blank instead.

someone made the comment about the cue being well executed. like i said the cue does look good but it's looks like he just turned down a blank and threw a joint and some ring work onto it.

do any of the cuemakers think it would take them the same ammount of time to make a similar cue?

Hey neighbour... Don't get me started here... I can give you 2 or 3 cuemakers right off the bat that use the same process and you pay 5 or 6 times more for the cue just because it has so and so signature on it.

i'm not knocking the process, like i said the cue looks good. but with the other cuemakers would the time frame be the same?

5-6 times as much cash seems like a stretch to me though. or did i read wrong? he did pay 400ish, no?

I just want to add that there are plenty of cue builders out there that will make this same cue for about the same money, and give you far SUPERIOR customer service.....so whats your point???

I do not disagree with you. I am just saying this since people are complaining about cues being made out of pre-made blanks and there is a ton of good cuemakers with a good name out there that use the blanks we are talking about.

I'll go out on a limb & say I bet he says its one of the best hitting cues he's ever used. I know....it hit a few racks with it.
