Broken Szam"

Wow,
what a shame"
Maybe a SOLID TITANIUM Rod throughout the cue would of helped here

Thats a terrible sight... Thats like posting naked pictures of someone's Grandmother.. Meaning something no one wants to see..
A player in my room broke his Barry about a year ago.
He swung his stick not meaning to hit the ground, but did. That kind of torque can do that.. :frown:
This has nothing to do with construction. No excuse for misuse...
Best,
Ken

As Barkley would say...

That's just turrable.

Looks like a clean break tho...what's your plan?

Kevin <-------wishes he even had this broken Zam :frown:

It was back together in a half an hour after I got it. I'm still shooting finish on it so it should be done by the end of the week or beginning of next.

I'll get better pics in a day or so. Yes, it was a clean break but the owner must have fondled the pieces or had others touching all over it because there was chalk dust on both sides. That worried me. I tried the best I could to clean it but it is still visible. If you hold the cue at arm's length, you cannot see it unless really looking for it. That's all I can ask for in a repair like this. I'm not arrogant enough to think or claim it is invisible. No repair like this is. It will be solid, playable, and unnoticeable from a couple of feet away.

Truly a tragedy to any cue...
But an inlaid cue by Barry Szamboti,
just terrible :o
At least Ryan put it back together,
And it looks great

Value ?

If this cue was worth $XXXX before the damage. How much of a negative effect on value does everyone feel this repair will have ?

Beautiful repair BTW.

That is a nice repair job Ryan, while it is sad to see cues like this broken sometimes it happens and it is not always abuse like others in thread seem to think. While maple like that used in this cue is certainly beautiful and we all love it, it is also brittle and will fracture along it's grain if dropped the wrong way. I think this is why more cue makers are coring their cues, especially cues with highly figured woods that are not straight grain!!!

Again Ryan, that is really a great job on that repair, thanks for sharing.

Take Care

In my opinion even with a perfect repair this cue should lose 50% of it's value if not more. If that had been my cue, I would have sent it back to Barry and had the entire forearm replaced, then the cue wouldn't lose any value because it would be 100% again.
