I just witnessed his heartbreaking loss to Mika on the hill by scratching on the break and leaving a table so wide open I could have gotten out.

Donnie is a nice guy that conducts himself with class and poise, and he speaks to anyone. This week he played at a world-class level like a true champion.

Finishing 3rd in the US Open out of 216 players is no small feat, and he should feel very proud of his achievements.

I am a fan!

as I posted in the other thread
(deserves to be said here too!)

Great Tournament for Donnie Mills...

Two 10-11 losses to get squeezed out by two of the best players in the game today!
That scratch on the final break shows how cold 9-ball is!

Props to Donnie for a great showing..

Amazing performance Donnie. Third place at the US Open and only suffered two hill-hill losses to the two top ranked players in the game. That's something to be proud of. Congrats.

I've always enjoyed interacting with Donny on here and in chat. Seems like a nice guy and hope to have a few drinks with him at Dcc. He had a great run at the Open and conducted himself with class even through the two heartbreaking losses and the tourney director telling him to watch his break speed after the 4 pack on Ralf.

Congrats Donny, great shooting.

good performance Donnie,

too bad for me but I only caught this match just about to 8-8,
what did I miss between Mika and Donnie earlier?

I heard there were some hand signals exchanged? what happened?

donnie, i have given you alot of crap on here, but i have to say i am impressed with your outstanding performance at the Open this year. to work a full time job and still play top level like that is awesome. great shooting.

Donnie Mills -- a gentleman and a professional

good performance Donnie,

I didn't see that. In fact, when Mika made a bad miss on a ball in front of a pocket, and that ball went around the table three rails into another pocket, he walked over to Donnie, and with the "I'm sorry" motion of the hands, apologized to him. Mika was actually more of a gentleman in this match, than when I last saw him play (in person) at the Predator World Straight Pool tournament at Comet Billiards in NJ. (Mika was over the top and out of line with some of his commential mutterings in his match with Oliver Ortmann.)

What you may hear, and will be completely untrue, is a misunderstanding about "Donnie making a swipe at Corey Deuel when Barry Behrman announced last call for the cue raffle over the P.A. system, where Donnie made a comment that Corey should purchase a ticket, for he might win a cue he can actually win with." (This comment was made, but it wasn't by Donnie, even though Donnie got back up off the table and looked over in Corey's direction when it was made. The comment was made by Barry himself, and he later grabbed the mic from Scott Smith and publicly apologized to Corey.) I mention this, because I got a personal email from someone that said "did you hear that comment Donnie made to Corey?" which was obviously the start of a rumor mill. I quashed it, because folks might've misunderstood Jim Wych in how he recounted the comment immediately after it was said.

Donnie is truly a class act, and didn't deserve the cruel fate of 9-ball that he was dealt (i.e. scratching on the break in the case game, with an anyone-can-get-out Cosmo pattern, *TWICE* -- one in each of two successive matches).

Donnie, if you're reading this, you showed the world the professional that you are! Third is nothing to sneeze at, and I know we're going to see you run deeper into subsequent events!

Congratulations!

I'm under the impression that he is self employed... So if that's the case, I can sympathize with all the stress of being a business owner. You never really get done with the day, you just bring it home with you. Yet to still be able to play that well... That just says tons about Donnie.

Donny had a lot of game, a lot of heart and is modest to boot. He's a very nice guy and has helped me a lot. Was a pleasure to meet him in person and see him run over top players. Congrats and keep it up. Can't wait to see the 100-81 pounding you are gonna give Shane on tar! :)

Excellence at this level speaks volumes about Donnie's game. A star is born!

I wish Carlot would have snapped it off..... Hopefully someone put him on a suicide watch after those two losses, hill hill and breaking on the hill back to back. WOW!!! It made me want to drive off a bridge myself....

Anyway, congats on a good showing Donnie, way to tell everyone what some of us already knew. You're a champion speed player and a class act!

Much respect........ Saw

I'm willing to bet he went right over to q Masters and heisted another player.
Fantastic tournament Donnie, very impressive.

When I first got to the Open on Wednes, I walked in and there was James Roberts and Donny chatting in the stands by table 2. I've met James before so I said Hi to him and shook his hand. He introduced me to Donny, whereby I said I was aka KoolKat9Lives, and he instantly recognized my screen name and shook my hand with a smile.

So these two guys continue their disucssion. Something, ahem... about the opposite sex in and about the pool-scene and their fabulous virtues. I interjected some "no ways" and "ain't that the truths". It was classic guy talking sh!t.

Anyway, I saw Donny commiserating with the crowd throughout the tourney and he was always in a good mood, seemingly very relaxed.

I never caught up with James again though. :(

Great to meet you Donny and once again Congrats. US Open yesterday, SVB tomorrow!

Congratulations Donnie on a great tournament. You played some amazing pool, and played with the heart we all wish we had. I know you'll reach your goals, and wish you the very best.
