Congrats to Todd for the outstanding skill, stamina and mental toughness required to pace so well in such a large event! Now to other matters--will Todd be sending out the gappers by Paypal, or will it just be vcash?
Well I just got home from Vegas. Would have loved to have stayed for teams but the team folded just before registration.
What a great event BCA Nationals is. This was my first time going down for it and it was everything my friend said it was. Pros walking around/matching up in the money room. Standing in line getting a hot dog only to have Bustamante and Santos Sambajon right behind me in line. Hanging out in the TheCueGuy.com skybox and playing pool with Loree John Jones...man she is fun..and sexy to boot.
But also, alot of thanks to Mike and Holly for having the AZB skybox to lounge in. It was great to meet many of the other members but also a place to sneak off to to relax between matches and get back in mentally before an upcoming match. Wish I could have stayed longer...maybe I would have offered you the 7 Holly.
Yeah I had a good run through the tourney. After my friend Tyler Luce got 2nd back in 2003 I think he mentioned having to win 11 matches to win the point. Having a goal day by day makes you see the light. I won 9 matches on the winners before finally losing in the semifinals late at night. Since win or lose we had to both play at noon the next day I asked him if he wanted to play the match in the morning at 10am and he declined. I was tired by that point and my feet were killing me (do not walk around 3 or 4 miles on the strip while you are down for a tourney..you will get quarter sized blisters by your middle toe on your upper foot of both feet..just a word of advice and yes it happened to me. Been hobbling around all week.). I could have beat him but two lazy shots led to my being hooked on key balls. He is a solid player and can get out from everywhere but it is way easier when your opponent hands it to you which I did to him.
Two matches I came back from 1-4 deficits to win. I could have easily been out in 17th place.
Good luck to everyone still down there for teams, wish I could still be there. Thanks again!
Cool. Yeah Bob was a very good player. I beat him 5-3 if I remember right. I had a couple of good rolls versus him and I think we both broke and ran the middle 3 or 4 racks so we were both playing very well. Before the match he said how the IPT was cake versus this tourney..did he play an IPT event or more? Congrats to Bob as well.
Yeah top 48 get to masters next year...had to make this opportunity a good one.
Great shooting Todd, and it was really nice meeting you out there.
I too am home and back to the grind. I lost my first match and then strung just enough together on the B side to win one more after getting into the $$, which works out to my entry fee plus three Bacardi cokes with twists of lime at the Splash bar. Cornerman Fred finished somewhere similar to me.
