Cue stolen in bar: who is responsible?

I know a fella who left the shaft to his Cuetec cue unattended on league night and when he returned, it was missing. Now he claims it is the bar's responsibility to buy him a new shaft because this is the second time this has happened to him in that same bar, and he doesn't feel like he should have to constantly watch his equipment while shooting pool in there.

How do you all feel about this?

Roger, unfortunately this happens everywhere and it is his responsibility not the bars. Did the bar have any cameras? I highly doubt he will get a new shaft from the bar, but if he spends a lot of money in that place maybe they will fork the $150 or whatever price to get one made and keep him happy and coming back.
 
As much as I feel for the guy because his cue was stolen, it's a bar, not a pool hall. You should never leave your cues unattended, especially in a bar.

I would say he is S.O.L.
 
If I don't have a friend to watch my stuff when I step away, I will pack my stuff up and take it to the bathroom. I don't leave anything where someone can take it.

It is your responsibility to take care of your stuff. That's like saying you left your phone in a movie theater and when you went back it was gone. Now the movie theater should buy you a new phone.

Get real and take responsibility for your property.

He didn't learn anything the first time? Like they said, look for camera's, and if they don't have them, he's out of luck. If it's a Cuetec, I can't imagine a shaft is all that much... He needs to learn to have someone keep an eye on his stuff.

Well you wouldnt leave your cash unattended,why would u leave your pool stick,people now adays know that cues can be worth a lot of money,so some people(pieces of shits of couse) will just grab it and hope its a good one!that is his own fault!

I have a tendency to leave my stuff laying around at the poolroom and have been lucky nothing has been taken but I know it can happen so when it does I will just kick myself in the rear. :embarrassed2:
 
Maybe this is an omen to buy a new Low Deflection shaft and take care of it! No way the bar is responsible.

Roger, what do you mean "left unattended"? Left where? On a table? Behind the bar entrusted with the barkeep?

What do you mean by "when he returned"? Did he fly to Egypt for a week or something?

Unless it was entrusted with an employee, I have to believe this guy is wrecklessly careless. And then to think the bar owes him shows a level of unaccountability that rivals Asia Hairdildo.
 
The bar is not responsible unless they had said they would watch it behind the bar for him. If you are not playing take the cue with you, if you are playing stick it under the table you are playing on. Its not that hard really, now I know that things can happen to distract you sometimes but after the first time I would be extra careful. Sorry he lost his shaft though.

Left a Cuetec unattended several times...
,,,nobody would steal it....:angry:


If a business had to take responsibility for customers possessions...
..they would have to close the doors
 
I would say 100% the guy is responsible, not the bar.

A better question would be, if you ask your friend to watch your cues and when you come back they are stolen (presumably because he got distracted and didn't do a good job of paying attention), is your friend responsible?

I hope I never have to be in THAT situation.

Who in the hell steals a shaft? and how would you be able to recover a shaft? It's probably one of the other player that didn't like him.....

Did he look in the trash can?

you're cue = you're responsibility. if you leave your wallet on the bar twice and it's stolen twice is that thier responsibility too? i am sorry but in this one respect your friend is out of line.
 
You'd be surprised what thieves will sell. If he's not selling it to a friend, he's probably going to be in that pool hall again trying to move it or sell it on craigslist/ebay/a local pawn shop.
