I havn't flown in years...but I'm setting out for the airport in a few minutes. My only luggage will be carry on. Does this mean I have no chance of taking my cues or should I pack em into my carry on?
 
Last time i tried to bring them carry on i was stopped and was told that i cant bring it on carry on and they will send it in with the rest of the luggage with a fragile sticker on it. Nerve wracking flight that was!

But from what i hear most pros who dont want to put their cues in luggage (because the guys back there dont really care if theres a fragile sticker) Fed Ex it ahead of time to a location where they can grab it.
 
As a side note... Visit an airlines website and take a look at some some of the approved carry on items.

Some, in my opinion could be far more dangerous than any pool cue.

Last time i flew i hid mine in a gym bag with all my other stuff. Now that i think back, it did make me kinda nervous. I bet alot of cues have been stolen by those baggage guys. I bet alot of them shoot pool too. I usually drive anyway but if you have to go a long distance. Fed x can get it too you in no time flat. Thats your best bet.

It is not the airlines that say you cannot bring cues on board; it is the TSA. I contacted them a little while ago asking them to reconsider their ban, but they blew me off. Good ole government bureaucracy at work.

It was much easier when we could bring our cues on board.
Just remember a pool case is not a suitcase so the liability is different.
Most airlines won't repair your case if damage and will give you a maximum of $2000usd for the lost item.
You may want to take extra insurance cost of $2.00 for each $100 or so.
If you decide to check it, with a fragile sticker, protect it well.

Cues On A Plane ??? Is this a spinoff of "Snakes on a Plane?" You can not take a pool cue on a plane as a cary on. Send your cue either Fed X or UPS INSURED A bit of a cost but worth not having to worry about them.

Not only you cant bring it on the plane, the airlines will charge you for the additional carry-on. i use a very hard case inside a big duffel and use TSA approved locks so the baggage handlers cant freely open the bag.
 
I tell you what I wish I had been on that flight 93 during 911 and had one of my cues with me....box cutters against my cue is like bringing a knife to a shootout. I would have put it together, REARED BACK WITH A NICE PAUSE, THEN DELIVERED that stiff low squirt 11mm tip WITH POWER AND ACCURACY STRAIGHT THROUGH SOME TERRORIST FRONTAL LOBE. Instant death to them, and more exciting and rewarding than snapping the 9 on the break any day!

Decided not to risk it....although, unless the xray machine would have seen em, they would have made the trip. No searches ect. Unfortunately I had no time plan this trip. Got a phone call last night and I'm in boston today. I'm sure shipping is the best aternative...id hate to have my cues confiscated by "the man".

This is true. I flew r/t from Detroit to Baltimore last month, for a corporate exhibition in Wash. DC, and the airlines charged me $25 each way, for my cuecase (I only had a carry on bag, with my clothes). :angry: What a ripoff.

I dont see the big deal with carrying your cues on a plane. But i could see a problem with...........

Yeah, we've always about this subject a few times. Some have said either ship them to your destination before hand or buy a TSA approved rifle sealed hard shell case to put your entire cue case inside of and check it in before borading the plane. Knowing how solid those rifle cases are, I think that would be the better solution. It'll cost you extra to buy the case and the cost of the extra checked-in luggage, but it's usually by weight and shouldn't cost a lot anyways. I would suggest afixing an exterior strap to hard shell rifle case just in case the TSA inspector or baggage people don't latch it properly after inspection, at least they'll know to make sure to restrap it.
