I am in a pool league and a member on my team is looking for a custom cue. He found one on ebay for $100 that looks nice but is probably made in China. I am trying to help him. Just a good quality solid hitting stick with no frills. Any suggestions?

Tell him to save another $100...to make his budget $300..then you can expect to get a lot more cue. At $300 i would advise to get a Mezz sneaky pete with wd700 shaft.

it's difficult to get any custom cue for $200 unless you find someone really new in the cue making industry.

Good custom shafts costs above $150 alone.

heres a quick question before I make a wtb and get humiliated LOL.

Is there any chance to find a 4 point veneer with a white linen wrap for around 350? I love the old school look so much but most are way outta my price range

Schmelke Cues, made in WI, great folks, even better product, and you can spend as little as $80, or several hundred...... good cue for the money in my opinion.... I bought one just to use when not using my custom cues when playing in certain locales, and they hit nice too .....

Wally:

Have your friend take a look at Viking Cues:

http://shop.vikingcue.com/cues-150-219

These are in the $150 - $219 price range, and I'm sure your friend can find something really nice, 100% American-made, in his price range.

I purchased a Viking model G-01 for about $139 last year, just as a "beater" cue to keep in my case, and was shocked at the high quality for such a low price. I now permanently keep this cue in my case, and use it a lot!

Hope this helps!

Low cost customs

I've got several (shown below) that I would sell for $180 - $220 plus shipping.

I completed these last year. They're brand new.

If you want to go a little higher, I've got a couple in the $250 - $280 range.

If you see something you like, let me know and I can send more pics and specs.

I'm sure I'll get torn apart for saying this but, for 100-125 it's tough to beat a Dale Perry eBay cue. 2 years down the road if they want a better or bigger cue they will still get 100 out of it. I never bought one but recently took one on a trade that had a DP-R low deflection shaft. I can't see anyone getting much more cue for 100 than what DP is selling. The one I had played very well, was a pretty cue, rolled straight, and hit very well.

Opinions on DP cues vary because he used to sell high end cues and pretty much screwed a lot of people who paid top dollar for a custom cue by selling cues so cheap on eBay. It drove the higher end cues values into the groud and pissed off a lot of people. I have owned a lot of cues and don't see how someone can go wrong with a DP.

What is wrong with a cue from China. I have a few American
made cues and a few China made cues. One of My favorite cues is an action inlay series from China a good quality cue that hits and plays great.
Not to mention It looks just like an old Meucci from the late 70s and mid
80,s .Take a good look at the action name trade mark on butt cap it even has the curve on the A just like the curve on the M in Meucci. Even the ring work looks the same. I wonder how the Chinese learned to make such
a cue??????

Try this. It's a Lucasi made in China but they make solid cues,I have one.

Heres a whole page for you.

saw those malis and almost purchased but hear all the points are uneven. No idea if that's cause second run and bad luck or just how there made.

I agree, I got one on ebay for 149 shipped, it is a very good cue.

Agree 100%. For under $200, an EBay Dale Perry is the best bargain in pool cues. He's also a great guy to talk to about cues, etc.

I would definatly say save a few more dollars and get into a custom sneaky pete. There are a few for sale right now between 2 and 3. IMO it would be a TALL task to find a better player for less. Then again I am a fullsplice kind of guy.

My current player is a Josey sneaky I picked up for 225. A friend just got a Mike Stacey off ebay for just under 3 and man that cue plays really good. Either cue would be fine for a learning league player.

I think you can find quite some cues in the 200-300 price range. As mentioned, you cannot get wrong with a Lucasi. As far as I know they are produced in same facilities as Predator, but cost far less. I own a couple my self, and if you go for a hybrid shaft, you do also have a low deflection shaft very close to the Predator shafts.

Custom cues I would suggest Prulhiere. You get a lot for your money from him. f. ex. this one http://www.billiardsmarket.com/bubinga-bubinga-don-t-miss-this-t70.html

I have no comments on the suggested DPs from ebay.. it would be on your own risk...

You can get a new TNT SneakiestPete Pool Cue off of Ebay, your choice of woods for $195 shipped. Plus he takes offers, so I'm sure he would let one go for $175 or less. I don't own one, but have shot with one and they are very nice. I do plan on adding one to my Sneaky Collection.

For around $250-$450 you can get a JD cue by Joel Dadivas, best bang for your buck, a custom cue that is fully loaded. :)

You will get a lot of cue also by choosing Lucasi or McDermott for this price. Saw several Lucasi models and was amazed how good they are-even in this price-range.
