That shit happens all the time. They (99% of Pool Players) have ZERO accountability. I have run tournaments and calcuttas off and on for 6 years and have seen forfeits in the Calcutta. It's not a big deal if the player had bought all of himself, but that's rare. I have banned players from events on our previous tour for this and told them the only way back in was to re-pay the Calcutta bidder.
Sorry for your loss, it's definitely not your fault. I would not say you wouldn't want to bid in a Calcutta again, I would just put no money in the pro side of pool, they do not deserve it no matter how well they play, main reason is because their sense of entitlement to it and everything else for free. But don't take it out on the amateur event calcuttas, that's where the value is anyhow, and they buy half.
Do you expect players to buy half of themselves in a Calcutta and if a player doesn't want to be in the Calcutta what do you do?
