Dcc Update

pdcue...I didn't miss the point at all. The OP said he hadn't been to a poolroom where there was a waiting list in several years. I said, that while that might be true in Columbus, OH (where he lives), it is certainly not true across the country. Do I agree that the poolroom biz is down overall? Sure...but it IS thriving in rooms where the owners care enough to provide what the players want (and it often has nothing to do with table time rates)!:D As far as bar pool...it is thriving in bars that participate in the three main leagues (APA, BCA & VNEA).

I think you missed the point by a mile or two.

He was pointing out that biz in pool rooms is down... wayyyy down.
Surely you don't dispute that, do you?

Dale<who misses the good ol' days>

When I spoke with Greg, he was adament about not going to the Galt House, because the room rate was $140/night. No doubt, the DCC rate at Caesar's will be much better.

I went on the Cesars web-site last night for January 09, rooms look like 150.00/night if I am reading it right.

When I did a search, today, the rooms were $99 per night except for Friday and Saturday nights which were $149 and $249 respectively.

I would guess that they may be even better priced for DCC players?

Lol, yall are funny! Great avatar Marissa, what kind of camera is that?

Back on topic...Never been to DCC, around what timeframe does it usually take place? What exactly is it? (<--gonna get hammered for that question! :)

Thanks. That camera in particular is a Canon 30D or 40D. I use five different cameras. I was shooting an arena football game and another photographer I shoot with snapped it of me on the sidelines.

The DCC occurs every January and is comprised of a 9-ball, one pocket, and 9-ball banks tournament. Then there's money matches and vendors. One doesn't get much sleep there :) Many people make their way down from the Windy City Open, which takes place right before.

I have an old Pentax ME Super from my uni days. It's completely manual. I'm not a terribly huge fan of digital, but it cuts production costs way down.

Wtf?

I'm looking up air fares leaving 16 Jan and returning 25 Jan just to get an idea and got this according to Kayak.com:

Atlanta to Louisville nonstop, starting at $474
Birmingham to Louisville with a layover in Atl, starting at $172
Montgomery to Louisville with a layover in Memphis, starting at $216

Atlanta to Indianapolis nonstop, starting at $313
Birmingham to Indianapolis with a layover in Cleveland, starting at $375
Montgomery to Indianapolis with a layover in Memphis, starting at $455

Why the heck is Montgomery to Atlanta to Louisville cheaper than Atlanta to Louisville??

I would hope there is a promotional discount for all who are there for the tourney.

Ha, I remember when I ended up in Indiana once. My partner fell asleep and I misheard what exit to get off at and ended up in some cornfields.

We left Columbus close to midnight... hours after we were initially supposed to leave... so by the time we got to Atlanta I was exhausted. Apparantly my driving scared him, so he drove from Atlanta while I slept. I woke up as we got into Kentucky in the morning. I offered to drive so he could sleep. He told me the exit number and since I'm hard of hearing, I misheard the number. He woke up and I believe his first thought was, "There aren't cornfields in Louisville!"

Wrong again - I won't quibble over whether or not he was refering to
only Columbus, but how far out of line are you really?

Plenty of rooms continue to provide exactly what their customers
want - and are still dying a slow, or fast, death.

How can you possibly not be aware of this?
Do you really think running a pool room is that simple?

Dale

Caesers Is 20 Minutes From Louisville. Also Unless Your In A Small Comuter Plane You Will Not Be Able To Fly Into Elizabeth In. Airport, As It Is Very Small. The Bridge To Get To Caesers Is 5 Minute West Of Downtown Louisville, Very Easy To Get To.

Bullsh!!te.

Too many poolrooms expect they can get by catering to "players". That is no longer true not due to nonsmoking laws, but due to the video game/entertainment culture.
