+++Dennis Hatch vs Corey Deuel+++

I swear I'd also love to see Earl take it down.

And noboby, and I mean nobody, better get him mad now that he's using a 63", 23 oz cue.

Still a couple of strong New Englanders in the mix. Mike D. is consistently impressive and this D'Alphonso fellow can get out often and from almost anywhere.

Best,

We'll see what happens with the new stick. What trends it might start, or rules that may change over it's use.

Who can forget Earl's ingenious 'finger extensions' that were outlawed?

Not to mention the use of Ipods and headphones during tourny play. It seems just as soon as people knew they couldn't shark or distract him while he wore them, they were banned?

You are right Brian....both those fellows can play!

Earl got knocked out by Hunter 9-8 and Gabe got Tommy D. 9-3.

Dag, I was hoping to see Shorty rise to the finals. He's due!

Poor Earl may be better off playing his "has-beens," as he puts it.

I'd love to see Young Gun Mike D. take it off. It's always nice to witness the young'ns rise in the ranks! :)

Hunter isn't blowing his opponents away but he sure is grinding them down. Lots of close races but he is playing well.

Congrats to Hunter Lombardo!

It must be that "POOL" physical fitness video by Falcon Eddie that is keeping him in shape. It must be the only pool physical fitness video out there.

I think Earl is gonna need a fitness video if he keeps putting weights on his stuff. Arm weights & now a 23oz cue lol. Either way I'm an Earl fan. Has anyone heard what his philosophy is by the heavy cue and extra weight ?

Is earl really playing with a 63" 23oz cue?
What's the idea behind that? Who made that cue?

From listening to Jerry Forsythe commentating the Turning Stone stream yesterday, the cue was made by Mike Gulyassy, and is indeed 63" long and weighs 23-24 ounces. As to the idea behind it, one can only guess.

The reason behind Earl's new "supersize it" cue, as the story goes, is that he said he liked the extra length and weight he got when using his extension, that it felt good to him...

So he had this custom behemoth made.

Inertia

It has to do with inertia and momentum. Once on a precise line, you stay on that line.

You can also train your arm to provide that extremely slow low energy stroke with weights. Practice with them on your stroking arm then remove after 5 or 10 minutes. I think Bob Jewett mentioned an aspect of this in a BD article.

You can also do this with a series of linked rubber bands connected to the midpoint of the cue and the other end around your bridge hand thumb. When you pull back more tension is needed. The opposite when going forward on the stroke. A few minutes daily will capture that elusive low energy level stroke.

I asked Earl about the weights some years back, as I smashed an elbow and wear a weight for the additional fittness and stretching aspects. I received a brushoff. None the less, I enjoy watching and trying to learn from his play. I am also an Earl fan.

Of course, my views are conjecture.

What would the pool world be like without Earl.
