Dennis vs. SVB Full Story- Truth From the Inside

Exactly...there was no check sent to SVB . I call bullshit.

Even if SVB did get an advance appearance fee, he isn't going to play this match if there isn't 50k bet as advertised. His reputation is beyond reproach. He wouldn't risk that for a 10 k payday.

Somebody needs to step in and get this match played. Pay each guy 5k appearance money...open the rail up and let it rip. It can still be the biggest action match ever....

Scott Frost posted a scathing post on FB to French, and in the comments said:

Scott Frost And bravo to SVB for sending the check back to Mr French!!! Class all the way

So maybe he really did send the check.

I'm surprised that as close as Dennis is to Jay he didn't run the deal by Jay before committing to anything.

I was thinking just that....Jay?

As far as the Dennis/Ko match, those guys both played their hearts out on a very difficult table. I don't care if it was just for a drink, it was one of the best matches I've seen since Shane/Pagulayan. Nothing but respect for both of these players. I got my money's worth.

Well that changes my opinion as of a minute ago. Shane would definitely show up for $15K and it explains why John has just not been involved publicly at all since all this started. I can see him just throwing up his hands and walking away.

What a shitty deal all the way around.
French needs to go.

Edit to add just because French told Dennis he sent a check doesnt really mean much at this point. If he did Shane decided to send it back as the room owner posted Shane decided to cancel the match. My guess is there is no check.

Didn't Efren have some backer problems early on in his time here ? By problems i mean getting a bad deal on how money was cut up or just getting stiffed ?I'd like to hear Upstate's take and Dave Cole's , they both seem honest . Did they get sucked in too ?, or did they know about the money in the middle or lack thereof and the bloated promotion ?Wonder if Pullyat(sp) and other backers were above board in the past with Filipino players ?

This is from Dave's (Carom Room's owner) facebook:

Ok, I was dreading having to make this post, but the Shane / Dennis match is officially cancelled. We tried most of the day and night yesterday to make it work, but Shane and I feel that the right thing to do is call it off. Believe me, this is the last thing that I wanted to do, and I sincerely apologize for all of the inconvenience that this has caused many people. I know a lot of you took time off of work, booked flights and hotels, and I feel terrible about this. Believe me, at this point I have a great deal of time and money invested in this deal. I should have known better to get involved in this in the first place. Shane, Dennis are stand-up guys and I want everyone to know that the cancellation had nothing to do with either player, or John Mars. We have had many great events here at The Carom Room in the past, and I hope this won't negatively affect people's opinions of us... I just got involved with the wrong person this time. I'm chalking it up as a learning experience.
I will be refunding all of the door money today. I have no control over the stream money, John French is responsible for that.
Sorry again,
Dave Coles

Yes. Two of them robbed him.
One of them, got him deported.

Puyat was Efren's sponsor after he got the US visa under his name. Puyat paid for his air fare . But, Efren still had US backers . The most prominent one was a gentleman named Mark. Mark shot straight and took care of Efren here.

I'm a little surprise that Ko could only come up with 2500. His family owns a pool hall. Hes the 2015 9b and 10b champ. Surely someone from his hall or he would have friends that like his game enough to come up with the 10K.

The guys(including the owner) at my family's mechanic shop puts up 2K a week betting football.

If the own a pool room they are probably in debt .

There was no Ko backer. He bailed before the match.

French posted he didnt bet anything in the middle and Ko didnt have a backer so that kind of narrows things down. The whole deal is straight rotten from top to bottom. People got scammed who bought the stream based on it being a 20k gambling match.

I did not see the match, but Ko and Dennis still put on a good showing, right? Was it still not a good match to watch, enough though there was no money bet on it? Why can't everyone who paid just think of it as an exhibition match (that was played just for the honor of who was the better player)? Was the stream really worthless? Did the viewers really get no pleasure out of watching the match? If it was a good match to watch, then what is the big deal? Both players played good, right?

Jay?

Dennis told me what was going on after the fact. I admonished him for signing anything without running it by me or someone else first. French snowed him into believing it was an innocent agreement only pertaining to the DVD sales. Dennis made one big mistake, he trusted the guy. Dennis wanted to believe this guy was sincere about helping him and his family. That turned out not to be the case. He was misled and duped!

Dennis is a great pool player but not a very savvy businessman. His command of the English language is fair at best and his reading comprehension is minimal. I've helped him with every deal he's made prior to this one and they've all worked out well for him. Please don't hate on Dennis. He just wants to play pool and he doesn't care who he plays. He's a very honorable guy who doesn't have a devious bone in his body.

Because a lot of people believe and will tell you that if there was no chicken on the light it really didn't mean anything. Btw, I am one of those folks. All that aside, if something was advertised as something and it was something totally different then that is extremely misleading at best!

Good news for Dennis

Dennis and John French have voided the contract and both are going their separate ways. John is going to his attorney tomorrow to retract the contract in its entirety.

The size of the bet DOES matter. The bigger the bet, the more likely more people would tune in. Of course there are also the small hardcore group that would watch even if these 2 just play practice.

This right here pretty much sums up why pool lives in the gutter as a sport. Just my opinion.

Lucky for Dennis imo.

Probably a good deal luckier for French that this stays out of the legal system.

I dont know much about French other than I have seen him go off in some calcuttas and I had heard that he was staking John and Dennis. There might be some dirt. All Im saying is if Im Dennis then I dont want my best defense to be "I read little English" or ""He said _______ and I did not understand what I signed" or simply "I trusted him and signed".

Lesson learned I hope.
