Art Deco Cue

Wish I could render it in a clearer format, but pencil and paper will have to do for now. The proportions (forearm # "points") and number of wire inlays needs to be tweaked. Thanks for considering, Bill.

added: CAD view of the forearm I'm thinking about. Hopefully I get to the sleeve later this week.....

My dream cue!

Since I have always been a fan of Van Halen, I've always dreamed of having a cue similar to Eddie Van Halen's guitar. I know the colors are reversed but I was trying to think of it in terms of what kind of wood could be used. Here it is. Entire ebony forearm and butt sleeve with the design consistent thoughout all sorts of lines thick and thin. White and Red, Except a 1.5in delrin butt capp and one block inlaid with the VH logo in mother of pearl in the butt sleeve. Black leather wrap. Ivory piloted joint 5/16x18 pin. Ringwork in from cue in pic below.

Cool idea. Instead of ebony the background could be Pink Ivory wood or a red dyed burl. Could be Very cool.

Thanks. I would love to see it red or near red. Make it more authentic. Just didn't think it could be done and not lose the look I was going for...

Ebony points with maple, light green, light orange, black veneers into an old brown piece of maple
All sterling silver inlays-sharp spears and diamonds
cortland wrap

Dream Cue !

Hi Bill, Dan from California ! This is my "Dream Cue", Its a tuxedo (Gambler). I'll start from the bottom, Black Bumper with an Ivory Butt Cap with the JW logo in Black. Butt is solid Ebony with Ivory Dice inlays seperated by Ivory lines & dash squares. The ring-work in this cue is an Ivory Heart,Club,Diamond & Spade with Ivory rings top & bottom. Ring-work is at ALL position's A,B,C,D & E ! The handle is SOLID IVORY seperated into segments by ring-work that is just the opposite thats on the cue. This is EBONY Hearts,Clubs,Diamonds & Spades with Ebony rings top & bottom. In the middle of this Solid Ivory handle is an Eight Ball. Forearm is also Ebony with Eight Solid Ivory points, four high & four low. On top of each high point is an alternating Ivory Heart,Club,Diamond & Spade, on top of the low points are Ivory Dice with numbers of seven & eleven. Cue has a Solid Ivory Joint. Now this is where this cue gets fun & takes it to the next level, the Shafts feature the same ringwork as the cue the Ivory Heart,Club,Diamond & Spade with Ivory rings high/low, Shafts also have matching Eight Ivory Points, four high & four low with a Black Veneer outlining the Ivory Points. Then a top every point its reversed from the cue, the high points have the Ivory Dice and the Low Points have the alternating Heart,Club,Diamond & Spade and this keeps the theme going through-out the entire cue. Shafts have the small 1/2inch Ivory ferrules. And last but certainly NOT least a matching set of Ebony & Ivory Joint Cap Protectors. Caps feature the same ring-work as the cue & shafts, Solid Ivory Tops on all with the Butt protector having the JW logo and the caps for the Shafts having a Black Dice on top with the numbers 1 & 2 ! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity !

Dan,

Very clever approach to design. It shows that anyone can enter this contest. All they need is a little imagination. Thanks for your entry.

I made a cue similar to this many years ago for Grady. It was stolen as I remember. The design was a little different. It had playing cards on the bottom not dice.

My dream cue has always been one of the box cues like Eddie Kelly had that Gina made several years ago,I always thought your copy was excellant and if you could do it again that would be my dream cue

You need to post a sketch to submit an entry and have a vote on the winning cues.

If anyone needs any design help. Please let me know. I replied to one person already. Rod.

Please forgive the picture, it was done by hand. Here is some of the details, ebony, ivory and silver. Two Universal "Smart Shafts' both with XTC Ferrules. Length 58in. Joint Screw: Uni-Lock. Joint and Butt Cap: Ivory, Joint Type: Flat Faced. Two silver rings, with x's in ivory over the rings. Rings located on shafts and below joint, above and below wrap and above butt cap. Seven long lines of ivory. Why seven you ask:

1. 68-72 Baltimore, Maryland
2. 72-74 Aspen, Colorado
3. 74-78 Tulsa, Oklahoma
4. 78-89 Colorado Springs, Colorado
5. 89-2000 Austin, Tesas
6. 2000-Present Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico
7 94-97 Rodermark, Germany

I would love to have them scrimshawed into those ivory lines, if possible

Then smaller ivory lines in between those. In one I would like to have Bill Stroud and the finish date in one of the others.

In the bottom of the cue I would like four ivory boxes where two of them have a scrimshawe pictures of an American Eagle and two scrimshaw pictures of the United States Flag. If possible. Then the lines of ivory I would like to have the dates I served in the military. I spent 15 years, 7 years active duty and 8 years in the reserves. And then in one of the other ivory line I would like United States Air Force. Then a few ivory stars over the lines above the wrap.

Thank you for a chance.

Just noticed there are two threads for this. I'll submit mine in this thread as well so I don't get left out. An ebony and ivory cue with scrimshaw windows and silver rings.
