I have a lot of respect for you - and you're one of my favorite players... but Roy is right here. There were a number of qualifiers for this event. If the UPA didn't invite you and you feel that was unjust.... NOTHING is a better stuff it up their A** than winning a qualifier and then going on to win the event. If you can't win the qualifier--- no harm, no foul right?

I think -- and I may be wrong -- that one of the Fusco "cousins" was on the player list for the "world" championship in New Jersey. Did they get in via a qualifier, I wonder, or were they invited because of their legendary status in the history of American pool?

Here's a funny story, Jay. Did you know that after TCOM came and went, Keith got a one-liner in a movie about Ninja Turtles? I can't remember the name of the movie, but it was a bomb. Keith had one line, "Help. I'm on fire." And that was it.

I got news for you. 70 year old Danny Diliberto could have beaten half the guys in the field. And that may be conservative. If nearly 60 year old Jimmy Rempe had played, he would have been one of the favorites. I don't think Nicky played either, did he? Another strong contender.

This is NOT a criticism of a fine event. I'm glad to see someone putting on a Straight Pool tourney. It's a great game and a terrific test of Pool skills. Just pointing out that Grady is not the only Senior citizen who can play the game.

I'm not so sure about Danny D's ability to beat 50% of that field Jay. Danny plays down here in South Florida and his eyesight has really gotten bad. He actually played a $500 straight pool match against a shortstop in the last 6 months and lost. Danny can still work the pack and run alot of balls when they are on one side of the table but he can no longer come with the long shots because of his eyesight. That said, a local here told me that in the last year he saw Danny run 15 and out just fekking around playing 1P.

I am sure his card is not active. He said they took the monies out of his movie check for SAG. He said it cost $565 to get the card back then in '85.

First of all, Accustats as a video production company is like a bunch of damn monkeys trying to launch a spaceship. They are a joke. Just horrible, have no idea what they are doing and should find new jobs. They make pool look bad to the whole world on national tv. They kill the sport....rob it of its beauty....

Since I have done a few commentary's on Accu-stats, and have been rather well received for my work by the way, I take your comments as a personal affront. If those ESPN pool shows had somebody like me to liven up their
dry-as-sawdust productions, maybe pool would be a little more popular with the sponsor's who are looking to put on an entertaining show. To call the stuff that has been fed to the TV public that last 15 years boring, is an insult to boring.

You missed my entire point. My point is if there's beef between the UPA and Grady and Grady doesn't get an invite... go qualify. If you can't win a qualifier, why would you care about the invite to begin with--- to wave and smile at the crowd while you're getting smashed by Engert, Thorsten or Schmidt??

I think Grady played at the MD qualifier and came up short. There was also one at Drexeline - not sure if he played in that. My point is if you can't qualify, don't WORRY about playing. I remember they wouldn't let Chi Chi Rodriguez play on the seniors tour recently when he "wanted" to play. Reason: The PGA didn't think he'd compete well, and even though people would want to see him - it wasn't fair to other players who can win the event.

Grady is a historic gem in our sport - but crying about invites is not worth his time. Someone of his intellect should be PRODUCING his own frickin' 14.1 events and not crying about someone else's event.

The only gripe I had at the world 14.1 is that hardly anyone was there (crowd wise). It's like the UPA didn't even call the local paper. I bet when Ortmann won, no one knew in the media. In that light, it was a disservice. Someone should promote a major 14.1 event and invite the media, sports associations, clubs, give discounted tickets to league members.... "GET PEOPLE THERE." Grady - you can do it!!!!

Great job with one camera. You've got the right angle. John Ditoro does a good job of analysis. I didn't know that he knew 14.1 that well. Guess it was the Danny D. influence. Who is that working with him? He has a good clear voice, knows when to talk and seems to know the game also.

John Ditoro is a pleasure to work with and very knowledgable in all games, especially 14.1 and 1-P. In 14.1 his high-run is 186. Johnny is originally from New York and straight pool was his first game. One of his mentors was Johnny Ervolino.
