Dissapointed with GCIII Recover, your thoughts please...

Hey Folks, had been planning to recover and replace the rails on my GCIII for several years now, and finally took the plunge since ive been redoing the basement. While the table overall is not terrible, do you think i have grounds to ask that the rails/pockets be redone? I was not home for the finished product to mention this, and before I called I was hoping to get some insight for you guys. Its a mechanic i found on here over the years, although he sent other guys out to do it. Maybe its just on par with the price, which i figure was great deal... $720 for new simonis 860, new k55, and install.

While my pockets weren't originally perfect, i was hoping for better than this... Please let me know your thoughts, thanks

Looks like crap. I'd be pissed..

Can't bank a ball that's close to the pocket.

Overall I'd rate this a 4 out of 10

Thanks, i was initially really disgusted with it, but was trying to not over-vent my thoughts :D I sent him the pics, he is sending them back out. At this point ive lost a lot of faith in them, given theyre professionals and would leave a finished product like this.

Im not a mechanic... But one thing that stands out is he replaced the cushions... Thus, all the unevenness between the facings and the cushions is all on him. It's all brand new work.

That's pretty bad, especially since they put on new rubber. The angles aren't even close. You'll hate the way those corners will play and they'll get worse as the cloth wears. I'd seriously consider having someone other than the guys who left it like that work on it from here. There's a handful of guys on here that would do a great job if you send them the rails, and unfortunately the first thing they'll probably tell you is the rails are not fixable with that rubber. It would be more expensive now, but you'll have a much better table.

I bet they did the entire install in four hours too.

Thanks guys, honestly thought this guy was supposed to be one of the better Chicagoland gold crown mech's, and was prepared to pay much more...

Do you grant fortunes after you read minds :D 830 start, got MSG at 1215 saying they were leaving... I thought they'd be here all day.

That's really sad work. Most do it your selfers have a better result than that the first time they try. I would want my money back, but then I wouldn't have paid in the first place once I laid eyes on that crappy job. I bet these guys didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn Express.

You would have been more satisfied doing it yourself. Unless it is one of the master mechanics in this forum, it would be very difficult to trust anyone else.

It's not going to do any good to have the same guys come back out and fix your table, they did the best they could in the first place, so a second chance won't be any better...they don't have the skills needed to do this work right...period!

I've been saying this for years, ask for references before you hire someone to work on YOUR pool table, then CHECK with the references to see what kind of work was done, and how long ago.

I'd represent you in a small claims court if those responsible for this kind of work won't make it right....by giving you your money back, every damn dollar you paid them, including materials!!!

Sent him the pictures and said he would make things right , so will see on wednesday. I actually havn't paid him, gave them a deposit for the 860 basically and Was going to call hime with a card later today...

What are you pro guys typically charging for this job done right? How much time does it typically take?

Thanks again

Table

I hope u did not get that guys name and number from around here...
If you did, shame on them.

Send those rails to mark Gregory
He's a gold crown pro...
I sent him two sets of dufferin residential rails,
And he did a perfect job.

What I charge, and what you're expected to pay these guys are two different things. I would charge about $1,500 for labor, cloth, cushions...and releveling the slates, but that means the work is done right, the rails are re-calibrated to play right, and the pockets play correctly...better than a new GC.

And he'll spend a few days

And Glen will spend a few days making everything perfect! The amount of time and attention required to do this job right makes it impossible for all but the most experienced and attentive of mechanics. Good luck in your efforts to have them make it right.

That's just amazing how people can look at the table after the job and walk away....thinking that they should get paid for that total shit work.....unbelievable.
Just goes to show.....anyone can fix the rails....LMAO
Sorry for your unfortunate luck with those guy's......but it sounds like your a nice guy....Glen knows me....I would of tore there shop down.....after coming home and seeing that job.
Trust me...like Glen said....if they guy's walked away from the job the first time....knowing how the table looked when they were finished.....they're not going to do much better the next time.

Good Luck with the table

Mark Gregory

Looks like someone needs a lesson on installing cushion facings.
That's just wrong.

Thanks fellas, I really appreciate your feedback. I should have done my research again before proceeding. While I did want to give him the chance to make things right, I decided to cancel the appt and he prorated my balance.

I got in contact in contact with Jerimy Chambers and he will be redoing the rails.

Table

I just now took the time to take a good look at the pics. It looks to me that they did not wait for the glue to setup and then trimmed the facing with some type of blade/knife. If they would of stapled the facing in place after the glue, it would not of pushed back when stretching cloth around the edges like it did there. For further knowledge'

But I'm going to bet that the person that did the shotie work has been working on pooltables for many years..
