Do any top pros get a college education?

Of the current top guys, have any of them graduated from college? Just curious

Of the current top guys, i dont think so. Perhaps Hunter Lombardo but that is a guess. Max Eberle won the collegiate championships 2 years in a row (as did Nick) but i dont know if even one of them graduated.

Varner and Eberle were the first two I thought of; I had thought they graduated; however, I can't say for sure. Also, I thought Charlie Williams was a college graduate, as well, but I don't know for sure.

I think Oscar Dominguez is in school, I'd bet he'd finish based on his family and personal history if he is. Maybe he is already done?

If there were financial incentives in pool, I think a lot of players would be educated.

JDB...Varner is old school...Mizerak also graduated college. Not many others. The OP was about current players...of which Max is a part of that group. I think CW went to Old Dominion University for a couple of years, but I don't know if he graduated. Almost all of the ACUI Collegiate champions graduated college. Most of them did not follow with pool as a profession, and had the 'foresight' to work a real job, and have a real future.

I have interviewed most if not all of the current batch of players. Some finished high school, several did not. By and large I am not aware of any college grads.

Isnt Jeremy Jones a computer programmer or something like that?

I could be wrong but I seem to remember someone telling me that...

I'm not a pro but I did play pool at The Park Billiard Academy in Neptune NJ for many years. Does that count?

Pool

Pool, for the most part, is a street smart sport, and was mostly populated by young men that had already dropped out of the education pursuits, then in the 70's and 80's several had attended college for a year or two, but most had not graduated.

How long must we sing the ole song about having to get Pool as a high school and college competition, and getting Pool into the Olympics. If we develop the amateur competition into different levels, it will lay the groundwork for becoming a pro, and will automatically pay better than it does today.

First and foremost is to form a governing body for Pool in the USA. Several influential people in Pool today need to band together to get this started.

This needs to be done as a business plan, with short term and long term goals to reach along the way. It's time to quit talking about it, and just get it done.

I have an Associate Degree in Aerospace Engineering, a Bachelor Degree in Finance and a Bachelor Degree in MIS.... I work full time as Head of IT for an insurance company and I own two companies.

Does that count? :)
