Does the fact that there is no trust among players say something about pools image?

No offense to the OP, but the way you've been throwing threads up lately, I have to wonder, did Travis Trotter's alter ego get into his dad's stash of Red Bull? :)

I think the OP has been hanging around the wrong room and the wrong people.

I was always on the action side of the game...there was always a group who could trust
each other.....we lent each other money and our vehicles and helped each other move.

Had a buddy call me from Vegas...went broke playing blackjack...surprise...
I told him a room to go to...(he was a good snooker player)....ask for the owner.
I called that room and told the owner to put him in action for a g-note....
...the owner took half the action....we lost...shipped him his money next day.

Had a guy in my town....would stake him any time he was broke....and gave him another
cue whenever he would break his.....four or five times....
he called me from a room cross town...said he was going to play the best player there...
..."Did I want half?".....I said "Sure."......
He said "We're already up four games."....brought me back a few hundred...
:happydance:

So if you don't know any trustworthy people, Justin, maybe it's time to change your life style.

A man does not go to perdition through handling a billiard cue, any more than he is saved by sitting in a library.

RUDYARD KIPLING.

So why don't you and Measure jump in your station wagon, swing by southern Canada and pick up pt, and come down to the Queen city of the Ozarks.
I'll buy you all a Hustler Club.

Careful what you ask for;) a road trip is not out of the question. I was up pt's way a few years ago and missed my chance to meet him:mad:. Next time I head north I will not make that same mistake.

As far as Measureman goes.....he hates one pocket but I woud bet he likes Hustlers:p

I think that as one gets older, and hopefully wiser, you become a good judge of character.

This applies to life in general, not just within a pool room.

I just wonder if it is pools bad image to be the reason why AZ members do not trust each other (unless they are already very respected among the community).

Hello
I think you are mixed up. Most of azb community are not pro pool players so if you think pro pool players do not trust each other it does not mean azb community do not trust each other.

Don't be so hard on him, spartan. I think he was pretty much generalizing.
Besides, if you can't trust pt, Cuebuddy, Measureman, and the old Trampster, then you're shit out of luck.

I knew a tennis player who was honest to a fault...

Is it just pool players, or is it in fact people in general that can't be trusted (if they are a stranger to you).

Maybe you would trust a fellow pool player more then a stranger off of the street, but I am thinking maybe not.

When you think of a pool player, what type of character do you imagine the average pool player has?

Trusting? Loyal? Helpful? Friendly? Lol, I am reciting part of the boy scout slogan.

I think in general, most people are good and honest. If they were not, then the entire online sales system would not work and all sellers would go out of business.

I just wonder if it is pools bad image to be the reason why AZ members do not trust each other (unless they are already very respected among the community).

Thanks for any thoughts about this.

Lack of trust among players is not an indication of pool's image, but it may be an indication of the players image.

Just like anything in life, pool has good players and bad players (character wise, I mean). And just like a few bad Muslims cause fear and distrust of all Muslims among some people, a few bad pool players can, and in some cases do, cause the mistrust and bad characterization of pool players in general.

Anytime I tell someone I am a pool player, the most likely response is, "Oh, so you're a hustler, eh?" Now, some are trying to be funny, but some really consider all pool players to be hustlers.

As for me, I try to judge people's character on a case by case basis, giving or denying faith based on each person's actions, regardless of background or association.

Sorry pt109 but I move back home to Louisville 7 years ago and he's never been in any of the rooms or local tournaments . I've said this before and find it very odd, he once said he didn't have a car and Truman Hogue was putting on a good size bank tournament with plenty of action to be had even if you didn't like bank. I offer to pick him up and take him home he never gave me a answer.
So between him never coming in the pool rooms and never getting back to me told me he doesn't play. Hell their more good action in Louisville than he can handle yet in other threads he talks about wanting to move to where theirs more action, what a joke.

Sorry, but I think that the pool scene in Louisville is pretty weak. I have been in the Bank Shot many times. The only action I ever see is One Pocket. I see the hustlers sitting around (bored out of their minds I am guessing) waiting for action, but I am guessing they rarely ever get any. Every time I go in the Bank Shot, the place is dead. Where are all of the 9 ball players? The Bank Shot gets very weak turn outs to their tournaments. 8 players on average? To be honest, I am just very depressed here in Louisville. Can't wait to leave. Evansville Indiana had a much better pool scene then Louisville. Their weekly tournaments (at O'brians) received at least 30 players on a weekly bases. There were many other tournaments going on (with good turn outs) at the bars too. Pretty sad that a small town like Evansville has a stronger pool scene then Louisville. By the way, I really do regret missing that Bank Tournament at Bank Shot. It would have been really nice to see some good action, and good players. It just completely slipped my mind, and I missed it. Living in Louisville has just got me into a deep depression (it is Louisville in general, and not because of its pool scene). I think my state of mind would have been much better if I could have found a place to live on the East end. Dixie highway is a big bummer. Anyways, I will start playing again if I can ever get my self out of my depressed funk that I have been in the last year and a half. I really do honestly miss playing. On a positive note, I finally got myself to check out Gilberts (on Terry road) last Saturday, and their tournament (which I was late for) had 16 players (which I thought was not too bad), and they had a good band playing. I just sat there, watched, and had a pizza by myself. Getting a taxi home was hell though, and after waiting 3 hours, the cab never showed up (and it was closing time). Luckily, I got a ride home from this lady who lived in PRP. Thought I was going to have to walk 3 miles home at 4am. Anyways, the TD told me that I would have to play as a 7 (since I do not play league), and since I am very rusty, I do not think I would have any chance. I did think it was cool that they play 8 ball on the winners side, and 9 ball on the losers side. That was interesting. I learned that Spectators has a race to 1 8 ball tournament on Wednesday. I might start going to that. Sounds like fun. The locals told me that there really is not anything else going on though.

wow

Theirs action in Bank Shot every day you just got to stay longer than 10 min don't put that place down. And I got friends that live out on Dixie hwy theirs nothing wrong with that area,as a matter of fact if u come in more you no that theirs 8 or 9 players that live out their and come to the pool hall every day and are good older people who would give you a ride.

I think your not putting any effort Louisville has a great group of people who will play cheap or just for fun put if you don't get out their you'll never no. So please stop making these dumb threads acting like Louisville is a bad place, cause we have a lot of great players and one of the better pool halls around to play in.

Life is what you make of it doesn't matter where you live, yes some places
Are better than others but over all Louisville is a good city with lots of jobs
just get out and find one and your life will get better a lot quicker.

Does the fact blah blah blah

where are these facts found?what is the empirical evidence?

let's establish facts then ask for meaning

where are we to find these facts that pool players don't trust

is this mistrust greater than democrats who don't trust each other"?

For that matter, who are these pool players who don't trust etc?

Do golfers trust each other?

That said,it would be difficult to trust a pool player if gambling were involved
wouldn't it?

I've known quite a few pool players that I can trust...their word is their bond.
I know even more that I would take a chance with.
I don't think we are any worse than people in business...same %

We aren't at the bottom of the barrel.....
....we can give the average politician the rainbow crush.

No doubt about that.

I have found that any kind of gambling can bring out a lot of dis trust, it tends to show a person true colors. Weather it be golf, pool or whatever the game that's why it's best to just not gamble with friends.

In my honest opinion, trust is not given, it's earned. While alot of us on AZ have to go on the itrader rating, I had to take the plunge and give it a go. As it turns out, there are some very stand up people here and I can vouch for the ones that I dealt with.

I don't believe that not trusting somebody makes the game as a whole look bad, just the few apples that ruin it for the rest of us. There are some people out there that will try to gamble with no money and I have no respect for that.

While this may be long-winded, I believe it's what a lot of people think.

I fully agree with you but I still think it's best to not gamble with your close friends, theirs plenty of action to be had without taking your friends money.
Just my 2 cents tho.

it only costs $ 10

Whether you know someone or not there is always the $10 theory ....

It''s quite simple:

You are an action player and want $$ ? Play someone your speed and win/lose I get my $10 back , we are okay. (If i need $10, I know where to go ).

Need gas money, a cab, $ for a bite to eat ?? .................. $ 10

The way I see it is $10 is a real easy way to tell people to F***off if they fail to return your generosity. ;)

Yeah, Bank Shot is a really nice pool room, with a really nice owner. I was not trying to put down the pool hall itself. It is really nice, but I think that the action there is mostly just One Pocket (and maybe Banks). I think their tournaments get an average of no more then 10 players though. That is pretty weak. The guys in there are really nice though. I talked with some of the players that I think hang out there like all of the time, and they are pretty nice. I get the feeling that there is not many 9 ball players there though (maybe a few). Overall, I just get the feeling that the pool scene in Louisville is mainly just made up of League players, but it is like that with most area's around the country these days, right? Here is a city with a million people, and there is a total 3, or maybe 4 places that hold tournaments (with pretty weak turn outs, from what I have heard), and none of them add money to the pot. Maybe that is one reason for the weak turn outs. In Evansville, most of the weekly tournaments would add a good amount of money to the weekly pot. Like if there was $150 in the pot, they would match it (to make it $300). That would bring in more players. By the way, I do not see what the big deal is about me being interested in what is going on in the pool scenes of other parts of the country. I have been really unhappy, and just trying to figure out where I might be happier.

There is no trust from the batter and ump the pitcher will NOT wet the ball. I show an example of just about every game/sport where thee is no or very little trust. Johnnyt
