Brian,

We leave it all the time, first you gotta earn it!

OK, the truth is I leave rep fairly often but mostly as a way to post the short notes. With three or four pages of people maxed out in rep I didn't figure anyone cared anymore. Another forum where I am well regarded I have a whopping ten points of rep last I looked. Nobody plays. For me, when Doug died any interest in rep points died with him. I only played the old rep game to support him. I give the occasional newcomer with a good post a rep hit just to green him out but once greened out, no real point.

Just to stir the pot, there is a forum with gold boxes, gold stars, more rep symbols. Just think how large some would be living with a row of gold stars under their name!

Rep

I leave rep. Sometimes it is returned, sometime it isn't.

You have to specifically go to your rep to see it. I don't really understand the purpose of it. Like iTrader it can be left for the wrong reasons or for someone with whom you have not had any interaction.

Shane Noel (banned) who has ripped-off more than one AZer left me neutral rep.

Billiardsfan who I went out of my way to help him identify a cue, left me neutral rep because he lumped me in with some others who, for some reason, he didn't like.

Oh well, when you come right down to it, gazing over 50 x 100 of Simonis is all that really matters.

You are barking up the wrong tree unless things have changed. The people that leave neutral rep either don't have any(maybe less than a thousand points) or they are in the red. Once they have some rep then the points they give is a percentage of the rep that they have. Positive rep counts twice as much as negative rep or something like that. Back in the day people worked out all the details.

This is just another example of the misuse of rep IMO. Rep should never be returned. It isn't a payback game. It is to be earned for an exceptionally helpful post (or action), an especially informative or insightful post, and/or or an exceptionally well written and well reasoned and thought out post. I also feel that every post should be judged on it's own merits and one shouldn't withhold positive rep from an otherwise deserving post just because you don't normally agree with that particular poster or don't happen to like them. And likewise you shouldn't give good rep on undeserving or borderline posts just because that person recently gave you rep. A post (or action) is either exceptionally helpful, informative, insightful, well written, or well reasoned, or it isn't, and who wrote it should be immaterial.

And while we are at it negative rep shouldn't be for opinions we disagree with either. It should be for behavior that is particularly atrocious and blatant. Examples would be really bad business practices or scammers and such.

tried to send you a rep note

thanks everyone - all warm and fuzzy again!

Brian,

I tried to use rep to send you a note telling you I don't give out rep anymore but it bounced, said I gave out too much rep in the last twenty-four hours!
:confused::confused::confused::scratchhead::wave2::outtahere:

(I just noticed there are a lot of emoticons I have never used before)

I sent him some rep but the deal went bad and he refused delivery. Only god knows where it will end up now.

I just realized that I'm a bit stingy with rep......
....it's either got to make me laugh.....or it's gotta be something I never thought of....

...and I got no sense of humor....and I know everything.

Actually, I have neglected to give rep many times....'cause I didn't think of it....:embarrassed2:
I gotta change my ways

What Poolplaya9's said. "And while we are at it negative rep shouldn't be for opinions we disagree with either. It should be for behavior that is particularly atrocious and blatant. Examples would be really bad business practices or scammers and such."

I've given lots of good reps but expected nothing in return. I don't need a pat on the back in order to go to sleep at night. Never given a red rep.

I agree. Rep used to seem to actually mean something. Then a few people turned it into a game, and passed it around for nothing. Also, when people got maxed out, it seemed to lose its luster.

It is still nice to get, especially when the person is giving you rep for the reason it was intended.
