E-Cigarette Ban in Los Angeles effective today...

I was in Columbus, Ohio and about 5 people lite these up 2 tables over and it made me kind of wonder about the safety of these things.
I felt kind of light headed after about 2 hours of this.
California usually gets things right as far as protecting peoples health before other parts of the country get it.
Down south in some states you can still smoke in the restuarants.
The actually still have smoking and non smoking and the people that smoke have no problem with sitting right next to you with your food right there and lighting right up.

My hats off to California...........They might not be correct on this one but they know something......

The fact that you can make a statement like Cal usually gets it right before other parts of the country, shows just how ignorant you really are when it comes to the rights of the people and the Constitution. I have never in my life seen so many medical problems happen to anyone like they do to you. Just looking at your on the road thread, there is very few times when something wasn't/isn't wrong with you.

That is correct. E-cigs don't even generate smoke. It is the same thing as the artificial smoke machines that are used by bands and shows for decades and there has never been a single instance of it harming anyone in anyway. You don't hear about anyone banning those. They are the same thing.

Like you said. It has nothing to do with health. It is about a bunch of liberal progressive control freaks shoving their beliefs up everybodys nose again. Cigarettes were only the beginning. Once they learned how to use the government to impose their belief system onto others there will be no end to it. May as well start digging the graves. That's where it always ends up when their kind gets into power.

These Coercive Control Freaks (CCF) have set their sites on pool many times over the years. With these new weapons, wait until they target pool again. It'll be a nightmare is certain cities and there is no arguing about it anymore, the precedent has been set: bar owners no longer really own their businesses.

Try looking at the monolith of the state with your perfect aiming techniques.

If you don't, you aren't really seeing their shots (aimed right at us).

I've never been a smoker and hate cigarette smoke. But, I've been around e-cigarettes many times and have never been bothered in the least.

It is one of many reasons California has such an embarrassing debt, worrying about such frivolous things.

Oh let me put this candle out, while the whole city burns to the ground.

E-cigs don't bother me. I have a buddy that uses them, has several different flavored oils some of which leave the room smelling very sweet. First time I got a real whiff, I told him I thought Willy Wonka farted.

It is harmful. Not as bad as cigarettes, but bad. Pneumonia is diagnosed as water in your lungs. What do E-cigs do?? Exactly the same thing as giving yourself pneumonia.....

Give yourself pneumonia? Really? Then you better not go out and breath in humid weather or in the rain.

Where are people going to draw the line? Have any of you ever had a headache from car exhaust (carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, etc,)? It must rank as one of the worst headaches someone can get. Do I have the right to stop someone from driving a classic car because of high tail pipe emissions? How about someone driving around a new car with a service engine soon lite on, especially a blinking SES light which undoubtedly means that your car is producing excessive emissions? All of these things can be bad for my health, do I have the right to prevent you from driving these vehicles and causing health hazards to me? Its ok to burn garbage where I live bot I know plastics burning are bad for me, we better ban that too. Some people have terrible body odor, if it makes me vomit that will remove the enamel from my teeth, so you better not have body odor cause thats illegal too. Society is getting ridiculous with all of the "do gooder" police out there. I dont want to hear about it costing more to take care of smokers health problems when there are so many obese people out there that will have high health care costs, better go after the fat people too then.

You will get a headache from carbon monoxide. Because it steals your oxygen to make carbon dioxide.

Here is how IT should be...

Pool Room A - Location: A Street
Non Smoking..
Come here if you do not like smoke, work here if you do not like smoke around you

Pool Room B - Location: B street
Smoking and all tobacco products allowed
Come here if you like to light up, work here KNOWING this is allowed, if you do not like smoke, work at pool room A.

JV (----the solution is simple, I am a non-cigarette smoker and an occasional cigar smoker

Your observation is astute but lawyers always like contracts that are all inclusive. I was on an offshore tuna fishing boat in Mexican water s. of San Diego. On the boat a group of Chinese gentlemen were chain smoking the whole trip. I lit up a cigar and they starting raising cane about it. Complained to the captain ( this was outside on the deck with the wind blowing the smoke away ). No these dudes did not speak a word of English and I thought is was so out of line I considered using them for chum other than the standard anchovies.

I smoke on occasion and use a e-cig regularly. My first hand experience is the e-cig is a lot easier on the lungs. I had smoked for close to 20 years before I changed over. E-cigs do not make me cough when I wake up in the morning. I also do not stink.

Some studies have been done on this. Only trace amounts of carcinogens were found in the second hand vapor. Furthermore about 10x less nicotine was found in the second hand vapor.

Are e-cigs bad for you. Almost certainly. Are they better for you than cigs? Almost certainly

Same discussion in Germany.

And same poor arguments against the e-cig.

The gouvernment tried many ways to forbid the e-cig and lost each single court case, due to the poor arguments.

In Germany the gouvernment earns about 18 Billion Dollar from tobacco- tax. No study around the world- as far as known by me- has found any harmful substances for others. Even a government- study in Germany wasn´t able to find anything.

Only once they found a poor rest of nitrosamine in a liquid, they never named. And they also didn´t quantify the concentration of it. Up to requests it appeared, that the concentration was lower, than in a tomatoe.

I know a lot of strict nonsmokers (including my wife). And I always ask them, to tell me, if they are disturbed, due to my vaping. No one ever- no matter how long they have been close to me- has ever moaned.

But whenever you read about something "dangerous", you´ll find guys, which are immediately deathly ill from that- and giving theirselves an instant therapy with some high- percentage alcohol and moaning about their poor lives...

I was at the Chinook Winds casino a couple weeks ago. To my surprise you could smoke until you are green in the face but god forbid you use a e-cig. E-cigs are banned at the casino. WTF!

I have also read some of the studies from German scientists and they say vaping is totally safe. The difference is it's not the US, they are just straight to the point without all the lies...Safer than tomatoes is good enough for me.

It's the equipment which needs regulation, not the usage.

Vaporizers are great, but there are some issues concerning their use, mostly with regard to the health of the user, and, like most other things, some judgement needs to be exercised in order to make it as safe as everyone seems to think it is.

Like most other products, vaporizers tend to be imported, and designed/engineered to maximize profits. I suspect there's not a lot of control over the materials the units are constructed from, and I think it's wise to be leery of toxicity when it comes to anything that you're going to "smoke, drop, shoot, snort, or rub into your belly". (Thank you, George Carlin)

The hand-held units I've seen lack any sort of temperature control, and I've noticed that many users tend to over-cook the active ingredients in order to maximize the efficiency and effects, to the point where I've seen them exhaling bluish "smoke".

Most vape pens use some sort of metallic element as a heating coil, which adds unknown products of "combustion" to the vapor. Some of these do produce an acrid, irritating "vapor".

On the other hand, the better quality stationary vaporizing units utilize a ceramic heating element, and are designed with a "clean" air intake path which does not draw air from the interior of the unit, eliminating the intake of fumes from the warm electronic circuitry. They also have a dial or a readout that allows a measure of repeatability and consistency in the temperature setting. You can walk into a room where one of these is being used and can't smell a thing.

Speaking of pool... I've heard many times over the years that a touch of pot helps with concentration, and I've seen quite a few people playing very well after smoking a little bit. Can anyone offer any information about this, or share their experience?

Ken

A "touch" of pot. Weed is the teacher :p

When I was 18 (A very long time ago), a road player took me under his wing for a few weeks to teach me "the ropes" of money play and a lot of the psychological side of playing for money. (He lived off his cue for 12 years prior to meeting me). He regularly smoked before playing, and boy could that guy shoot! The one time I joined him before play I couldn't do it. Made me kinda zone out and miss far too many shots. I wasn't good, but I was so much worse on pot. Definitely not for me.

Prior to the laws restricting smoking in these kinds of places, I never saw a single example of Pool Room A.

This ban is really disappointing to me.

I'm a non-smoker, and I hate almost everything about smoking.
I've been thrilled with smoking bans.

When vaping started to become popular, I was truly happy for the smokers in the room.
They got their fix, I wasn't stuck with the smoke. Win-win.

More selfishly... if smokers can get their fix and be moderately satisfied,
they are less likely to cry about the ban or boycott the pool room,
which reduces the odds that the pool room will reverse their ban.

I've been around multiple people who use vaping equipment, both with and without nicotine.
All I get is a light, harmless, usually fruiy scent. It's no more offensive to me than bathroom spray or lysol.
All this stuff about choking on it, or calling it a "miasma" or claiming it gives you pneumonia...
I dunno if you guys are experiencing some entirely different product, or you're just
letting your imagination run away with you.

I find it 1,000,000% better than actual cigarette smoke.

This ban means smokers are going to get agitated again and fight it, and businesses
are going to be forced to choose, whereas before they could keep both groups happy.

Did you really see people vape rather than smoke in the places where smoking was permitted? I never saw that. In my experience, when smoking was permitted all pool halls allowed it and all smokers just smoked cigarettes. Then when most (? I think) states banned it, the pool halls were required to ban it. I see you're in New England - do any states there permit smoking in enclosed public places?

I admit that I'm very skeptical about these things. I'm not sure companies should be allowed to profit from people sucking this stuff into their lungs until it's shown to be safe, but then again I can't believe it's legal to profit from selling cigarettes, so I'm probably an outlier. I've heard people say that it could be a healthier replacement for smoking. Maybe, but I'm skeptical of that too. It's my understanding that most replacement-type habits don't work very well in reducing the habit itself.

It definitely doesn't bother me when I'm around people who use it, but was that really the argument for banning it? I'd like to see the reasons given by the city councils that have adopted these rules, but I couldn't find them in a quick search.

I was in a small bar that has four tables and two young guys next to me started smoking/vaping/inhaling or whatever the hell it's called. Man that sheet stunk! I would have been happier if they just burnt some good quality weed and got the munchies. I have no idea what was in the things they were smoking but it was so awful I paid up and left. That is my one experience and hopefully my last. Smoking/vaping just makes me wonder, WTF can't you just breathe air like the rest of us? Is it really fun?? Do smokers/vapers get smarter from it? I guess, I am getting old!!!
