earl is a great player. at 1 time earl was 1 of the best players in the world! earl gives 110% everytime he goes out there! the problem is when earls 110% isnt good enough to win thats when he gets upset! i was there when shane pounded earl and i wish all of you could have been in that room after he got beat! he was the epitamy of polite and was grecious in defeat! had nothing bad to say about anyone! he evan explained how diffacult it was to go from the best to being average on tour! and if you would of been there you would of seen a champion player from the past! passing the torch to a young kid that looked up to him for 15 years! when he stated that he never thought his record of 5 open titles could be beat, and he turned his head and looked at shane and said,"but this kid he was born to play pool, and he might just win the next 5 in a row,and i hope he does" and that is why i say earl is still a champion!

Well said,he also said during the WPC during an interview that he knew he had problems and would take it out on people and knew he was wrong, that his eyes and abilities werent as good, atleast he sees his problem, hopefully he can adjust and get back into his old form.

Nobody denies that Earl is a champion, but what about the way he conducted himself during the match with Shane? I think Earl has "demons" he needs to deal with.

Hey BigNasty, good post. I saw part of the interview after the Action Challenge II. Even though Earl was clearly frustrated at times during the match, he really impressed me with his good sportsmanship after it was over.

i wish you could of been there when it was over! for 90 minutes he talked explained and tryied to make it clear to us how he saw things! and thats when i looked at it thru his eyes and i dont know how i would handle being the best for starters! then my best not being good enough! just made me respect earl, thats all!

Fact

Earl still whoops 95% of all of the AZ billiards members.

Looking at things through Earl's eyes may just be the biggest problem of all. Earl has seen this game for decades as very few have. I think I would miss it too. Handling age is not easy for some and it can be devastating.

yes i think some people underestimate how it must be to have once been the greatest player to ever hold a cue, and now finding yourself struggling to get any form and having various things interfere with your game.

these great players (in all sports) have a huge ego (rightly so), and it's gotta be hard when you are struggling to cut the mustard.

i know it'd kill me. i have a lot of respect for Earl. as funny as it sounds, part of me doesn't like to see people grow old too gracefully. i can't help but respect and admire people when they are sort of going down kicking and screaming, refusing to accept they arent as good as they used to be anymore. Why should they accept that? you then see the real passion and love these people have for the game, and the extent of their desire to be the best.

I would say 99% at the very least.

Well, I was going to say 99%. But I figured if I did that some super know-it-all would compile a list of all of the screennames he/she thought could beat Earl, then do the math and come up with 98.9%. So to deprive the ones who were so looking forward to doing this, I said "95%"

BTW its still early, someone could still do it......

Ever notice how the courage found in the bottom af a Jack Daniels bottle is similar to that found on the "Enter' button of a keypad?

Well, I'm not a super know-it-all but I understand that there are a few on this board. I just felt like beatin' up on you a little.:)

D<-- still not to the bottom of his bottle of Jack but can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

AT LEAST! Closer to 99.9%! With about 6,000 members, I don't think there's 60 on this board that can even come close...6 maybe...
:p

it really is alright. it really is ok too that there aren't too many mood swinging earl's around pro pool, tv especially. he should become a bca captain and feel good about going to the riviera.

yup, he is the best 9 ball player ever. he might not have won as much or stayed on top long as some guys, BUT he playes the game better-he has more horse power than anyone ever, I was watching him tonight smacking balls around(i was 15' away) it was quite in the room no one else was around and when he hit the balls it sounded better than anyone can make the cue, balls, pockets the whole shot sounded betterthan anyone can make a shot sound, no one has the stroke he has. when you can make the balls sound different than anyone else thats something special. i wish him happyness
