Wee bit off topic....for sure...

But I just gotta ask it..
Europe doesnt fit the definition of continent does it ? .... How do you tell where Asia begins and Europe ends.....
Wasnt there a push years ago to call it Eurasia n the geography circles ???

Good question. Is it something like the continental divide in America? A point where rivers flow either East or West dividing the continents. This proposed change was probably driven by the fact that Europe and Asia (except for India) are on the same tectonic plate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Plates_tect2_en.svg.

Also from Wikipedia...
"boundary between Asia and Europe is conventionally considered to run through the Dardanelles, the Sea of Marmara, the Bosporus, the Black Sea, the Caucasus Mountains, the Caspian Sea, the Ural River to its source, and the Ural Mountains to the Kara Sea near Kara, Russia"

Peer,

Talk about spin, you post that the UN considers England part of the European region as proof? The spin you are claiming I give is straight from a dictionary, not my words. wikipedia that you used is rife with errors and shaky documentation at best but of course you should already know that.

For centuries the English have claimed that they are not a part of Europe and by the common definition of Europe as a continent and the definition of a continent they aren't. I really don't care about political, economic, or sporting alliances and only find it odd that the once proudly independent English now want to be just a cog in a wheel. However when you attack someone because they state that England is not part of Europe I am compelled to point out that they are absolutely right as your map clearly shows.

No, this is actually on topic. In support of Earl Strickland's behavior, a member on this forum writes:

You're now exhibiting your prejudice against American champion Earl Strickland. England may be considered part of the European Union, which is the only reason the Brits are included on Team Europe at the Mosconi Cup.

As if this wasn't enough utter nonsense, she also proclaims that she knows more about the European Union than I, and tries to prove it by copy & pasting some paragraphs from a website, and passing it along as her own missive. How pathetic.

I hesitate to beat up on her too much, but the irony here (besides her trying to "educate" me about Europe) is that it's so apparent that she doesn't even know where to find Malta on the map, nor recognizes that also Malta is an island, and hence, by her silly argument, Tony Drago shouldn't either be part of the European Mosconi team.

But since I'm quite familiar with the paltry level of the general education in the US, nothing of this really surprise me.

Is it really that important to you? I never tried to educate you, but I did post up my opinion.

As well, I did post up what I found on Google, but FWIW, I altered the words to make a point. It was not a verbatim transcription of what was on the website.

Now you claim that the U.S. has a paltry level of general education. You want to take potshots at me and now the United States.

The United States has the best education system in the world when it comes to colleges and universities. That's why they all flock our shores to get educated here. BTW, what brings you to my paltry country from Norway?

I give up.

I am tired of arguing on this forum.

I am sick and tired of Keyboard Cowboys trying to flex their muscles at the expense of others.

Enjoy your visit to the United States.

So I'm a "Keyboard Cowboy" with only 400 post..?
What are you calling yourself then, someone with 8,000 posts?!

This is just as disingenuous as your previous posts.

a lot of people in england don't consider themselves 'european' as such. me personally, i am english first, british second, european third. 'european' doesn't mean a hell of a lot to me, that's why i support america in the mosconi cup. my favourite players are american, and it's the home of the sport. i have more in common with american culture for all it's flaws than i do with the dutch, germans, finnish, russians, swedes, italians or maltese.

That's a little silly I think.....

That would be like saying that Japan or the phillipines aren't really a part of Asia and they are much farther from the asian shoreside continent than England is from shoreside Europe. IT would be more like saying that Cuba isn't a part of North America....

I couldn't help but notice in the Poll.
It's a tight race between 'normalcy' and 'watching American Idol'. :)

They aren't part of Asia, the continent

Note that Cyprus is now usually considered part of Europe although it is far closer to Asia and almost completely encircled by Asia. Countries move from Europe to Asia or Asia to Europe in the world view according to their changing cultures. Geographically they just aren't moving that fast!

Again geographically speaking, islands off the coast of a continent are not a part of that continent by definition. They may be part of a country but not part of a continent. Continent and continuous have the same root for a reason. Political groupings are another story and Hawaii is a part of the US. That doesn't make it part of North America however.

It got a mention in the Blackpool papers I'm sure, but nobody noticed Jam. There was zero mention in any news that I am aware of. Pool is not a sport taken seriously in the UK. And strangely, my recollection at the time was of you very pointedly picking anyone to cheer for as long as it wasn't a European, and specifically not a Brit. So the only time you could have not minded Daryl winning it was when he'd won. That's a bit late. If you have since softened you stance I'm pleased.

Excellent point, I learnt a while back that theres not much point arguing with JAM on this topic. She's never left the states, she's clueless about any other country in the world, she hates Europeans and Asians, and this is about the 50th thread she's ruined due to her race issues. I lost count a long time ago the number of times she's started these thee fights. Seh's probably had a go at half te forum but of course everyone else is wrong!

Go Dayrl, Go Europe! Go Drago! :D

I do not hate Europeans or Asians, and you are a liar for saying so.

This is also about the 50th thread you have labeled me as a racist, and I will continue to call you out on it.

Maybe you should have come to the States to get your education. The gross spelling errors in the majority of your posts stink, reflective of your British education.

After all these years I finally find out that the British Isles are not a part of Europe. Just goes to show you how bad our education system is in this country. I'm going to go find all those geography teachers who lied to me and tell them a thing or two. ;)

This is a joke, should only be taken as a joke, and is solely meant for the purpose of humor alone. Any semblance to actual facts should not be considered. It is not the intention of this writer, to in any way try to inform or educate anyone, as to the whereabouts of any body of land. Hell, I don't even know where Pookeepsie is!

He's a hillbilly asshole
I like to watch 'American Idol'.
Come on. We all know "INCLUDING EARL" that he's isn't the first option. The phrase hillbilly asshole is just juvenile and american idol just makes me feel sorry for people but it is very entertaining which earl is. HANDS DOWN, I've said this before, Earl is one of the best rotation players of all time. His attitude, which gets a little on the "ass" side is what it is, real. These type threads are just as out of line as Earl could ever be. He's developed this person in the "pool media" if that fits, thats has been pointed out for ridicule. Believe you me, Earl is not the only pool player that isn't a model public figure. Earl is I beleive good for pool. But I don't like to see him torn down by public audiences. I love pool. I respect anyone who has obtained as many titles as Earl has. Its a shame more don't feel that way. Earl is taunted, heckled, whatever due to the fact that he will go off, make a public display of his ass. He doesn't care. Nor do I.

Actually the British Isles consists of United Kingdom and Ireland. United Kingdom consists of the union of England, Scotland and Wales (Great Britain) with the six counties of Northern Ireland. It lies off the Atlantic northwest coast of Europe (that's by geographical classification).

Source: Countries of the World as of 1995. (There may or may not be recent changes)

Whether it comes under or is part of Europe/European Union, who else knows..how about the UN secretary.
