Early 60?s Ivory Handle Gina Cue

In my humble opinion, someone has picked up an outstanding piece of history at a great price and someone else looks like a Jacka$$. Congrats on the sale!

hfelsh.....beware.

I am not amused with your antics and the trashing of a sales thread.

Once more will earn you a vaccation.

Clear?

edit: changed my mind due to the vulgar message he sent by mistake as "rep".....and reported the post to me.

See you in a while.

Wished you would have left that mess on here....it would remind others in the future what a dick he is.

Bob, congrats on the sale....knew that couldn't possibly last long. Someone got a super classic there !!

Will, are you the person who obtained that Ed Kelly
Ginacue that Greg Sowder had on ebay a year or
so ago??

Bob,

congratulations of doing a good job for your friend.
Lets' play some one pocket again soon

Hi Danny,

Yes I bought the Ed Kelly box cue (made by Ginacue) from Greg Sowder a while back. Greg is a perfect gentleman and the transaction was flawless. As you know, the Kelly cue is the first box cue ever made, and it fits well with my box cue collection.

Danny, I think it was you who commented positively about the Gus Szamboti box cue in May of last year in a thread that had special interest for me also.

On a separate note, I am pleased to say I purchased this ivory handled Ginacue from Bob Olson today. A fine gentleman also, and as trivia, both of these cues were in the same area in Washington.

BTW, Ken Kerner is the lucky winner of a steak dinner when next we meet. Thanks Ken!

And thanks Bob!!

Greg and Bob also play on the same pool team ;)
You have absolutely no worries with Bob, I know
he is meticulous (a fancy word for anal) about
the way he ships a cue.

Enjoy your new to you cue !!

That cue was magic in the hands of Richie Florence. When I see it I get tears in my eyes. Even though I can't afford it. I should have bought that cue.

Richie would OFTEN go hours without missing a ball, ANY BALL! He was the most determined pool player I ever saw. He had absolutely no quit and no dog in him. If they came to Los Angeles, he would wear them out. I don't care who they were. No one could beat Richie out here and they all quit trying.

He had to retire because he ran out of games. After a while, even the good players didn't want the seven ball anymore. When you talk about great 9-Ball players, Richie has to be in the all time top ten. He's right up there with Lassiter, Worst, Buddy Hall, Mike Sigel, Wade Crane, Earl, Johnny, Efren, Parica and Bustamante for the best I ever saw play.

Jay,

As with all your posts, I find your comments without exception informative, thoughtful, insightful, and very much appreciated!

I eagerly await your book, and fully expect it to be one of the very best books ever to read about the sport we love so much.

....And yes, I agree Richie was one of the strongest players ever to grace a 9-ball table, part of the reason I am so excited about this acquisition.

The guy in the photo with Ernie is "Artesia" Kenny Dodd, who was a very good friend of Richies and a damn good player in his own right. Yes, he's the Kenny who I wrote the note too.

Hey Will,
This cue fits absolutely perfect in your collection..
YUMMM steak :p
Thanks,
Ken

Wow

That's a great cue. It looks very much like ithe ivory handled cue Ernie breaks with to this day. I think I remember Ernie telling me that he used ivory billiard balls to get the material for those handles. Ernie has ivory prong inlaid SHAFTS that go with his ivory handle cue (he doesn't break with those shafts).

Great great place for that cue to end up with Will.

And what about that logo? First I've seen.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the nice comments about the cue. I am thrilled with the acquisition and look forward to getting it restored by Ernie and then home. I got your pictures, thanks. I will send some pictures of the other cue when I get some time.

....Tell me you found your Tad. If not, I may have a line on one.

That's so smart to have Ernie do the refinish. Will you have him sign it? That's the first I've seen of that logo I wonder what's on his break cue.

I haven't found a Tad and have sort of settled into using my Gina. The Tads I was offered were newish and I thought a little pricey considering what I can get a new Tad for from Tad. I was toying with the idea of having Ernie make me a plain-jane maple player. I think if its to be a Tad for me I want something a little older. If I were to go newish, I think I'd be happier with a Gina.

The whole thing gets complicated by the fact that I can't sell my current Gina player on eBay after Jan 1st because of the ivory.

That's a cool cue you got, and the Richie Florence provenance is sweet.
