Eastside Billiards NYC

Opened link and noticed a photo showing a 2nd floor, ?

Looking at the 1st floor, I would think maybe 11th street billiards.

Not sure? One of my kids will be checking it out tomorrow and will give me a review. I have been to Society, Amsterdams and Steinway but I don't hear much about Eastside Billiards.

Amsterdam is the 11th street billiards place I visited.

Society billiards I visited, liked the place, Steinway was OK (lots of crows).

While I was in NYC I also dropped by Carom Cafe and RAX in Long Island NY.

There are many nickle and dime places, the folks I was with steered clear of them.
All of the places I visited were OK, no trouble , good pool shooting, sophisticated and clean.

Crows?????

Crows?????

Steinways has a group of elderly folks that sit towards the front of the room and play games (mostly chess) from their homeland. I forgot if they are Czech, Russian, Polish? They don't seem to involve themselves in the game of pool at all. Its kinda cool:)

They are Greek.

So I start off thinking it is some local variant of "railbird", but now Im lost.

Why are greeks who hang out and play chess at a pool hall in NYC, called 'crows'?

I haven’t been to eastside, but it is upstairs.

Gotham is very cool, esp the bigfoot

But the big winner in nyc is skyline billiards

Society is great if you like rap music full
Of dirty words and genitalia not my thing
But pool is FREE every sunday and
You get 40% off drinks
For people who work in service industry
Poolrooms, bars, hotels, restaurants.
I get over the not my favorite music
Every sunday

Like gotham city, all diamonds
Amsterdam and skyline, all gold crowns

I used to play a little at Eastside.

Not a players room, but they have passable Gold Crowns if you wanted to get some practice in. Decent bar but only snack food to be had.

Haven’t been there for 5+ years, so I can’t tell you how it’s been maintained. It’s still hanging in there, which for Manhattan, is a rarity.

I forgot

Skyline also has two beautiful
Billiard tables. But for pockets, just GC
Really nice place and good food

Yes they're mostly Greek guys and they will tend to get a more attentive when top Greek players like kazakis and economopoulos are in the house competing. ;)

Yes thats it! I was there about a year and a half ago with sjm and he mentioned that.
I would like to see Gotham City Billiards and Snookers before I croak.

Crows caw, cant croak.

I was at Amsterdam a couple weeks ago and had a great time.

The first time I went to Amsterdam I walked right past the front counter and proceeded to saunter through the room to look things over. The man that was behind the counter didn't like that at all, he followed me to the other side of the room and explained I needed to check in first and then (if i was accepted) I could rent some balls and play awhile,:o Danny Barouty was the guy who taught me manners that day:cool:

I'm not a big fan of Eastside Billiards. I wouldn't bother checking it out unless you're staying in that part of town. That said, though, it's about ten years since I last went there, so maybe it has changed.

The same thing happened to me. Amsterdam billiards sux.

Jim you should check out Felt in Englewood.

Stu my oldest daughter and her boyfriend have taken an interest in the game and live just south of Eastside. They are going to be in the area so they will be seeing what its all about. I will report back.
