I wonder how Dennis Orcullo would do against Frost or Alex in a long 1 pocket match. He is such a straight shooter. He is able to overcome some strategic errors or lack of knowledge due to his great shot making and position play.

Great write up from Mary Kenniston

THE FREEZER TAKES IT DOWN!!!

Scott Frost emerged the victor over the legendary Efren Reyes in the marathon race-to-thirty one pocket extravaganza, The Duel In The Desert, hosted by the Casino Del Sol in beautiful Tucson, AZ.

Efren came out of the gate 2-0 & it looked like it was going to be a real dogfight. However, Scott was having none of it & roared back to take a 3-2 lead. They traded games for a bit & after a few uncharacteristic mistakes by Efren, Scott closed out the day with a score of 10-6.

Day Two was all Frost. Playing nearly flawless one pocket, Scott kept Efren off balance. His moves constantly put Efren on defense & Scott showed little mercy as he pocketed ball after ball. Commentator Billy Incardona, in the booth with PoolActionTV’s Scott Rabon, stated that Scott was playing as good as he had ever seen him play. At the end of Day Two, the score stood at 20-9.

For all the one pocket fans who had hoped for a topnotch battle between these two superstars, Day Three was just that. Efren & Scott traded games but unfortunately, the huge lead was just too insurmountable to overcome. After three days of play, the final score was 30-17.

In post match interviews by Billy Incardona, Efren was gracious in defeat as he complimented Scott on his stellar play & said that he couldn’t expect to win after missing so many balls. Scott stated that despite playing so well, he never felt comfortable for the entirety of the match – even with his large lead – because he knew the level Efren was capable of playing. He dedicated his win to his close friend, Lawrence Ybarra, who is in hospice.

Efren was sponsored in this match by Puyat, San Miguel Beer & Tip Tool by George. Scott was sponsored by QB Custom Cues, Volturi Cue Cases & Bull Shooters in Phoenix, AZ where Scott is the House Pro.

PoolActionTV would like to thank all our viewers & everyone behind the scenes who helped make this match possible. And, of course, thanks to Scott Rabon & Billy Incardona for their excellent & knowledgeable commentary.

And, as always, this match wouldn’t have been possible without our great sponsors. We would like to thank Casino Del Sol for the fabulous venue & their great hospitality, Greg Sullivan for providing the beautiful Diamond table & Ivan Lee for providing the Aramith balls & Simonis cloth. Thanks to Ultimate Team Gear for their very cool custom Duel In The Desert shirts, Steve Lomax of Lomax Custom Cues, Mike Durbin of Durbin Custom Cues, John Bertone of Kamui, Chris Renfro of Outsville, Inc., Ramin Bakhtieri & MaryAnn Starkey of GoPlayPool.com & Jeremy Hanshew of Hanshew Jump Cues.

See you next time!!!

Hey Terry..how can you say the same things I have been saying, and not get half the heat I get for saying them?..I guess you just say it better! ;)..I think Bill Incardona was ready to whip my ass, when I dared to critisize Efren's skills at one pocket..Actually, it is a testament to his all around play, that he has beaten so many good 1P player's, with his somewhat limited skills at the moving part of the game.

I too wish the match were closer, and Efren had his best game going!..But I still think the end result would be the same..As you pointed out, Scott has always outplayed Efren at 1P, and there are a few guys out there now, that can make Scott look bad at times..This IMO should make my point obvious.

I do not claim to be anywhere near Efren's skill level at pool, but I do know the game of 1P quite well!..Obviously better than those who don't see certain things, and are critical of my evaluation!..Even an average player can see, that ER's shot selection at times is sorely lacking, and even his uncanny abilities, (cueball control and shot making) cannot save him from impending disaster!

Efren Reyes..best pool player of our generation, ABSOLUTELY!..Best one pocket player ever..Sorry Billy, not by a long shot!..BTW, for those who may be interested, I have had some limited success too..When I was about 63, I easily gave Steve Cook a ball, (8/7) more than once, for a good bit of cash when he was playing his best..Many witnesses!..

PS..Against a player like Scott, one or two bad decisions per game, will usually seal your fate..Thats why the score is what it is now!

Deanoc..Please pick any number between $20.00 and $200,000.00 :D My house is paid for, but I'll hock it again to cover any bet you would like!..:thumbup2:

A solitary ignorant man on his own nebulous planet passing jealous judgment.

Who is the best judge of talent? Bill Incardona by far.

You have to resort to tooting your own horn and doing your own bragging.. Embarrassing.

Efren is still trying shots that he made easily 10-12 years ago. He doesn't make them anymore with any consistency.

Does he make the shots that you think that he should be trying no because his creativeness is so far beyond yours.

Those of us who have been watching him play at Hard Times over the past few decades have seen this coming. Each year he has been missing a few more shots than the year before. But he is still "Efren" and has never bragged or tooted his own horn and he will still go down in history as an all time great in One Pocket.

While you, solitary man, will still be trying to justify your thoughts of your non-existent pool legacy. Good luck with that.

Congratulations to Scott. Well done but you still have a ways to go--like a quarter of a century.

I was not going to bother responding to your attack on my credibility, or anything else you seem to find fault with..But my curiosity got the best of me, as I wondered how a total stranger could be so bitter towards me, without any provocation at all?

So I scanned through your past posts and threads, to find a reason for your animosity. I see you have been around a lot of pool, and are maybe the most opinionated poster on the forum!..I would suggest you might do the same with me. If you did, you would find that while I was just a local player, and never a household name, I have the respect of several of my peers, whose names you may recognize.

To name just a few, Buddy Hall, Jersy Red, Ed Kelly, RA, Richie Florence, Jack Cooney, Flyboy, Grady Matthews, and yes, even Billy Incardona!..Yes, some are deceased, but none of them ever accused me of being a braggart, or a blowhard!...Being a pool nut, I'm sure you have a copy of Robbin's SM&S!..Lots of verification to that effect in there, even for you!..If you follow up on my suggestions, no need to apologize for your abrasive attitude, I wouldn't accept it anyway!

I see you are a big fan of Efren, and his amazing talent..News flash, so am I..I find it quite odd, that a little of his humility and humbleness did not rub off on you!..My little give and take with Cardone, (re; Efren's one pocket prowess) appears to be well beyond your comprehension!
..Have a nice day, stranger!

So now being in the Hall of Fame is a non-existent pool legacy?

Lou, I cannot believe I'm hearing this from you!..Efren is definitely in a category all his own..The category just doesn't happen to be one pocket!..Just call me Mr. Ludicrous.

PS..You should have listened to me, and saved your money for another shot at Barton..I would love to see that again!

SJD, with all due respect, all I know is that Efren brought the game of 1pocket to an entirely new level. Ronnie did that with the way he moved balls but Efren went far beyond.

I think there's also the issue of Efren playing a good portion of his career on equipment that is far tougher than the old days and still dominating. If you look at any of the photos/video from the JC era, the pockets are humongous. You watch Wimpy playing Shorty on ABC Wide World of Sports, in the finals I believe, and they don't look so good compared to modern levels of play.

He has a different opinion. He's in the HOF. He was a well known, respected, high level player. No need to take that shot.

Even though Efren lost so decisively, I still found some beauty in his game but the shot making firepower wasn't there.

A tough event for him, for sure.

So what does this mean for Scott? Is he in high consideration for top 1p player?

What do the 1p specialists say?

best,
brian kc

As soon as he completes the trifecta of beating the Filipinos and takes down Alex and Dennis, he will be.
