I’m not going to post on AZ’s main forum anymore. It seems to me that if I go to a lot of trouble to relate billiard history and to honor past greats, that I should be able to do that criticism free. If a man like Freddie picks at me, that’s ok for two very good reasons: a. He’s earned the right and b. He’s right most of the time.
I’m no longer thick skinned enough to have people who climbed from underneath some internet rock, tell me I’m a liar or that I don’t know what I’m talking about. These posters have favorite catchphrases, too: “You know what I’m talking about.” or “You know what I mean.”, like there’s some kind of hidden agenda that only they and I know about. I even sometimes get told that I’m wrong about something when I was there and privy to everything!! I’m not supposed to even be proud of my accomplishments, hard gained as they were. What difference does it make if Efren beat me 11 times and I only won once? That’s once more than the internet cowards will ever do.
Also, I’ve discovered the hard way that if I get asked something by these people or I post something myself that they disagree with, there exists no evidence or answer that would make them believe me or understand the truth.
Mike, I have a good suggestion for your site: Why don’t you have someone like a Freddie criticize my posts and vice-versa. That way, we could be rid of the bad malcontents. I had been really enjoying talking about the past and great champions like Denny, Richie, Larry, Cole, etc. and the old time places but the idiots that hate everything and everybody have ruined that pleasure for me.
So I bid this site a reluctant goodbye.

It was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the posts Grady. Bye bye and best of luck at the IPT.:(

That was a post I never wanted to have to read!

It sucks when a few bad apples ruin the bunch. Grady, I for one love your posts and will miss my history lessons here.

Say it aint so Grady, you will be missed by some of us for sure, what better way to learn about the past than from a man who was there and lived it.

Grady, you stopped in my little room in Downingtown once on the way to do a show at another room. I enjoyed talking with you and your sidekick at the time.
Stay in good health and may god bless you.

Grady,
I hate to see this happen. You are one of a very few who have the firsthand knowledge of much of this game's history. Yes, there are some jerks on here, just as there are in most pool rooms wherever you go. I, for one, am sorry to see that they have created this unfortunate situation. Those of us who appreciate what you do, will surely miss your posts.

I would also like to say what a pleasure it was to meet you and your lovely lady this weekend in Raleigh. Please tell her I enjoyed talking about grandkids while you were playing matches.

Steve

This sucks:mad: ...hope the few of you that not only dont respect an elder but couldnt carry his cue case are happy. I for one massively enjoyed his writtings and will miss them dearly.

I have nothing but respect for you Grady. I hope you will reconsider your position.

If I shoot the same shot over and over again for ten years, does that mean I have ten years experience?

You have more experience than most of us posters will get in a lifetime.

Grady

I hope you reconsider your position. In the past I have done the same, only to return because I have a love for this game. The idiots will always exist, but there is a wonderful thing called and ignore feature that I use to filter them out. You are a great asset to this forum and I for one am appreciative of all of your contributions.

I don't blame Grady. Same has happened to almost all the pro's that use to come in here. They don't want to take BS from someone that can't put together a run of 4 balls in any order. Johnnyt

Sorry to hear that. Seemed like a respectable, knowledgable dude.

I concur with the replies. It seems only the bad apples are there to critisize those posts by pros like Grady. The majority of the readers here are just enjoying good tales of gambling and the good ol' times. There are so few who know the actual details but so many who think they know. If Grady leaves, AzB forum loses a major source of information. So, please reconsider Grady. The ignore -function is surprisingly handy.

Grady,
The fact that so many are asking you to reconsider your decision to leave AZB, should show you that the malcontents are in the minority. I too, ask you to reconsider your departure and do as someone suggested, use the IGNORE feature provided here. It's easy to use:simply click on 'USER CP' in the upper left hand corner of the page, scroll down the left hand column to IGNORE LIST and click there and then type in the name of people you would no longer like to 'see' in the box provided(you may only enter two names at a time and then enter two more). Take a piece of paper and write down the offending parties name, as you must enter it EXACTLY as it shows up on their posts, then click on 'UPDATE IGNORE LIST'. YOU should be the authority on what has transpired in your life. Don't let others tell you what they think happened and DON'T let them deter you from posting here. OK ?
Doug

Grady... I Am 66 Years Old And Look Up To You And Your Game. You Have So Much Knowledge And So Many Stories To Tell... Don't Let One Or A Few Idiots Get Under Your Skin... Believe Me, There Are More Out Here Who Respect You And Your Game And Do Not Want You To Quit Posting.
As They Say, There Are Always A Few Bad Apples Wherever You Go....we Have Serval Morons In Our Bca League Who Shoot Off Their Mouth And Make Idiots Out Of Themselves, Always Critizing Everyone Else's Game But Their Own. Know It Alls....so They Think....but Actually No One Pays Attention To Them Because Its All Talk. They Can't "show Me".....

I Have Had My Feelings Hurt A Few Times By These People But I Refuse To Quit Because I Am Better Than Them. Both In Life And On The Pool Table....life Is Short As You Know. Please, Don't Keep What You Know Inside. We Want To Hear It.....and You Know, You Will Feel Better Telling Us Rather Than Keeping It Inside. You Have Always Been A Big Man In My Book, Don't Let Me Down....keep Posting.....

Grady,

If you're still reading the posts, you are a champion and you've earned that mantle. There are people here that hide behind a keyboard and are able to say anything they want. There's nothing Mike or anyone else can do about that. Rise above the chaff and stick around. Show us that champoin heart of yours!

Grady,
I echo the sentiments of the majority. I'm very sad we may miss the great stories and the expertise you brought to the board.

Realize that no one takes the trolls seriously, even if they post on a thread that you started. You are welcome to ignore those people - many are here only to argue and criticize; in some way this makes them feel more important. I think it is READILY evident to ALL when this occurs; no one thinks less of a poster that decides not to engage these morons in debate.

Anyway, even if you decide to forego posting, you can still read on occasion. I know we would look forward to seeing you drop by the AZB/onepocket.org room at the DCC. Best wishes.

Grady, You have always shown me respect and I try to give you in kind. I think your talents in the game are top tier. Not only as player but as promoter, writer, teacher, etc. etc. But I do think you have been carrying some demons for some time now. At every event I have been in the last 5 years or so that you were at there is some kind of beef with you going on. Like the NYC 14.1 tournament qualifiers or even the recent Derby with Rob Saez. You seemed so unhappy with things as they are and cannot accept things as they are. I can understand how a great talent like yours who is always seeking perfection in himself can be so conflicted. I do hope wherever you go you will find some modicum of happiness because after all guys at our age shoould be able to find some respite and sereness in this hectic world. But to tell you the truth Grady it has been tough sitting in the same room with you when you do go off about this and that. But I suppose it was the same when a Picasso or a Pavarotti or a John Ford would go nuts when things werent going their way either. And believe me Ive heard stories that they did too.
So all in all Good Luck to you Old soldier. I hope you wont be like McArthur and just fade away.

From one old guy to another....

Grady, you may remember that on one occasion, a few days back, I helped you put some photos of your winner's plaque on this forum in order to settle a dispute. I wouldn't have taken the time and trouble to do this if I did not value your presence on this forum. If you have read the other replies so far, you surely realize that the large majority of people on this forum enjoy your posts and value your knowledge of the game and its history. While I am not much of a pool player, I am a lover of the game and its past and have demonstrated this by making old pool photos available to those who enjoy them. In fact, I used a photo of YOU in a post I made a few minutes ago announcing the re-opening of some galleries.

I respect your right to post on the forum or to decline to do so, and wish you well whichever decision you make. But I hope you continue to share your wealth of knowledge with those of us here who appreciate it. You are one of a fairly small handful of regular posters who know about the past 50 years of pool from first hand experience, and I certainly hope you don't let the misguided and poorly informed comments of a few keep you away.

Since you may not read my other thread, I'll stick that old pic of you in this post. Do you remember the event?

I too hope you reconsider. You provide a perspective that most of us never get to see or hear about pool. It is easy for someone to hide behind a computer and make comments that irritate people. I agree that the easiest thing to do is just add them to your ignore list if you don't like what they say.

Please Reconsider

Yo Grady. Same as all the above. The new comers need to know the things that happened in the past. Your memories are valued by all those that really care about pool. Please reconsider and stay with us.:)

I'm a newcomer to AzB. For the short time I've been participating I've felt privileged to be able to read Grady's reminiscences and opinions. Here is a guy who has been a great player and contributor to our game and he's willing to share with us - for free. Why would anybody want to pick a fight and make posting an unpleasant experience for him? For that matter, why pick fights with anybody? We should treat other posters as we would do if we met them in person, and try to suppress the "boldness" that anonymity allows.

I hope Grady understands that the vast majority of AzB'ers feel the same way I do and will reconsider his decision.

Rich Klein
