Fatboy Invitational

The only thing tough about this event is the level of the competition. Otherwise it's very fair:
ALL matches are a Race To Fifteen, Ten Ball. It is Single Elimination and players will play one match per night. If you win two matches you are in the money. First will pay $9,000, second $4,500 and third-fourth $2,250 each. Hope this answers your question.

its the squarest deal there is in pool, no bullshit math, I'm donating $$$ as is Greg. We have no profit motive. If you play good enough you win period. Its a long enough race that the rolls should even out, if there was time a race to 21 would be even better,

SVB gave me that idea, a single elimiation race to 21 10 ball tournment is what he thinks would be the best format. Granted that favors him so he likes it, JA agreeded-we talked about this right after the M-Cup. Just kicking around tournment ideas. At first I didnt agree, I went and took a shower and thought about it for 15 minutes and I came to the conclusion I really like it as well, I do my best thinking in the shower.

Due to time problems etc at the Derby we cant race that long, There is a chance I will so something much bigger with that format. I didnt want to pay deep in this event from day one, as players are going to be there anyways, its smart to pay deep to attract players if you only have one thing going on. If Barry at the US Open only paid the top 4 guys and the other 252 didnt make a penny, he wouldnt get 256. I can fill up and only pay the top 4. The players can do a saver for their entry $$$ if they win their first match or it first 2 matches, i'm not 100% awake. So they can mitigate their risk.

I want to thank Greg for adding $5000, This has been a triple tough year for me and $5000 right now inst the best move but I believe in keeping my word-So I stepped up, with out knowing Greg was going to as well. I will do this every year far as I know. I would announce well in advance if I changed my mind about doing it, But thats very unlikely. This is year 3#, This is far less than I want to do for pool but its better than nothing. My credibility/reputation with the players is very important to me. I respect all of them, unless they give me a reason not to-but I dont put my self in a spots to get burned.

I wish the hell I played good enough to play in this event, Someday in perhaps 3 more years I might give it a go, I have a brain thing I'm working on that might help my game enough that playing in the Fatboy Challenge could become real for me. Right now I dont stand a prayer to win my first match.

Also I want to thank Jay for running it for me, its really for the players not me. I like Jay's work and he is a close personal friend as well.

Best

Eric

Really good of you to pony up even when you are feeling the pinch. It sounds like a great event and you have a got a super field and that's a great format. Kudos to Greg as well.

Good job boys I know you will have a bang-up event.

Thanks man

Kevin

Just want to add this event was Fatboy's idea in the first place. He came to me three years ago and told me he wanted to do something special at Derby City, and put some money into it. From this came the idea to do a limited field Ten Ball event. It has grown into one of the most popular events at DCC. Only the very best players get in, and the matches are long enough to be a very good test. Race To Fifteen Ten Ball can easily take two to three hours per match. The fans love it, and usually pack the arena, even though we start the matches at Midnight.

I donate my time to running this event (and the One Pocket Challenge) because it's my way of giving something back at DCC. It's really exciting for me to be involved in this one because it's such a pure event that takes a great player to win. There can be no lucky winner of the Fatboy. You are going to have to beat Champions and play some great pool to win! Looks like we're going to have maybe our best field ever this year. I know I'm looking forward to it. Jan. 25th at Midnight - The game is on!

P.S. Still waiting on word from Efren (the defending champ) and Francisco. Plus Mika and Ralf are highly likely as well. I'd like to see Karl Boyes get in too. I like his game. And Dennis Hatch!!! Get in there Big D!

The Smooth Criminal just jumped in! BARTRAM, everybody's favorite player! We know who everyone on here will be rooting for. The underdog with a ferocious bite!

Jason Klatt is #11! Five more openings, that's it. I have a feeling some good players are going to get shut out. They have all been contacted, so it's up to them to act quickly. I will save one spot for Efren, he is the defending champion. Until I hear from him, I will not give his spot away. He is the only player who gets this privilege.

It boggles my mind that in a tournament like this with such a limited field and such a huge amount of added money relative to the total entry fees that you do not fill this thing up instantly and end up with alot of sad players on a waiting list hoping for people to drop out or not be able to make it.

i understand what you are saying.
but 500 is a big entry and players know
there are no easy draws here.

It's gonna happen this year, some good players are going to be on the outside looking in. This field my be full come Jan. 1.

Just got the word from Mike Davis to put him in. You're in Mike! Number 12, four more spots to fill.

Just got off the phone with Shannon Daulton. We commiserated about Billy for a while first and then he told me that he wants to play in the Fatboy. So spot #13 goes to the Cannon! Only three spots left. EFREN!!!!!

Is this going to be streamed at all? I'd love to see it webcast in it's entirety.

Thanks to Eric for his great annual contribution to professional pool and shout out to Greg for the matching funds.

You get in this tourney, you have to come straight out of the gate playing a top player, and every match will be tough. The race is longer, which makes it tougher still. It's a GREAT tourney, with great matchup's.

Last year one semi (Archer vs. Reyes) and the finals (Reyes vs. Shuff) were put online by Accu-Stats. DVD's of these two matches are also available. This year we are hopeful of at least getting both semis and the finals done by Accu-Stats. It is doubtful we will have the first two days matches online, but I am looking at the possibility of doing one match each night in the Accu-Stats arena online. We'll keep you posted.

I have reached out to Mika, Ralf, Efren, Busti and Lee Van. At this point only three of them can get in. And only Efren is guaranteed a spot. He is the defending champ.

Okay, here we go! Stevie Moore is in! And Ralf Souquet is in! That leaves one spot for Efren, who may or may not be coming. It appears at this time that Bustamante is coming for sure, so we will tentatively give him the final spot, unless Efren comes. If that's the case the spot will go to him instead. About as fair as I could be.

Take a look at post #1. We now have our field for the 2011 Fatboy Challenge, the strongest field ever! I also just got word from Pat Fleming that Accu-Stats would be featuring one match per round in the Accu-Stats arena! Good news for all those unable to attend.

That's great news Jay. Not so good for my wallet, more matches that I have to buy. I have the other three from the last two years and they are all great matches. Great 10 ball with the production value of Accu-Stats is a can't miss combination.
