If this thread would have been made a year ago I might care.

On a side note... it's too bad OP didnt get this on video, he could have been a star in his own spin-off reality show called "The Suckers" A look into the lives of the victims of the hustlers. Episode 1: the anniversary date.

If the guy was good enough to take directions from the director "hey, this guy is an out of towner. Make the eleven ball first not the 7"... Then he is the best pool player in the world I'd think. Wouldn't the fix be a soft break or intentional scratch? I can't think of anything he could have been told in private to fix the outcome of the break to a make this not that situation.

Not questioning the OP's integrity. He has explained his perspective. It was also explained about money ball v non money ball, seems like a misunderstanding more than anything nefarious.

Since it would be near impossible to select the ball made on the 15 ball rack, it could have been that if any "instructions" given, they were about what to do "in the event of" making a money ball on the break. Not saying that was the case, just that it's possible.

Very Simple

I agree that I cant be considered unbiased or neutral in this situation. I'm great friends with Raph and indirectly this thread makes him look bad. I called him and got the story from him...I talked to Finny as well totally separate. Somehow there stories matched. That's really all I have on this it wasn't more complicated than the break.

I do hope someone that played there during the time of the break and runs comes on and explains them as well.

All Finnegan needs to do is explain the rules to Mikey and let Mikey relay them to this thread.

Something doesn't pass the sniff test here.

My advice to Finnegan is the old Hollywood adage- "I don't care what they say about me, just spell my name right!" :D

To put it simply....these guys aren't too concerned about false accusations. People are busy. I'm sorry OP feels screwed though and that left a bad taste in his mouth. Next time he comes down he can send me a message and I'll get dinner and table time for him on my tab. Right or wrong this is definitely going too far. My info came directly from the accused. Straight up

You walked into Finnegan* 's house and were playing Finnegan* 's game . Didn't you notice the prize pool was a little high for a ten ball break and run ?

My info came directly from the accused. Straight up

Come on man. I know these guys are your buddies and all, but in the grand scheme of things, how many times does the accused, just flat out admit their guilt?
Let alone, a POOLPLAYER that is accused of being shady when...they WERE being shady.

OP came back and said 10 balls were racked for the break and run that night.

Dunno if it's true or not, but some of us will have a hard time believing any NY/NJ-er simply because they will instinctively defend their buddy on their turf, right or wrong.

Ive seen a lot of messed up stuff go down cause people defended a scumbag to "save face" about their home room or turf.
(That is NOT to say Finny is a scumbag cause i don't know him)

But some of us aren't that naive to just believe everything was hunky dory cause the accused or friend of the accused said so.

Sad thing is, there is no way to prove anything. Unless they actually video each break and run attempt each week for their records, nothing will be solved in this thread.

There are some ppl who don't worry or don't care much about their reputation. But, reputation ain't just nuthin'.

The only thing I'll say again is that from spending a little bit of time around Raph DaBreo, it would be out of character for him to scam someone.

I have no other comment about anything else here.

Take screenshots of the conversation.
Then post them as attachments.

Yep, or find a computer and log in to facebook.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I've experienced getting hosed as an "outsider" and the best way to handle it is to pick your time and place to get back - or just walk away and let it go. The only advantage for the outsider is he is anonymous but he knows exactly who the other guy is and where to find him.

If the op is wrong and "Finnegan" didn't do anything wrong then a profuse apology is in order and next time a better explanation of the rules to avoid problems.

Clearly the op either didn't understand the rules or got hosed.

I see nothing to straighten out. The rules and explanation of the rules have been given and that explains the whole misunderstanding. If this is correct and I truly believe it is then Fin got slandered for no reason what so ever.
Prime example of AZ posters who keep their torches lit and ready for action.
Lynch mob is a lynch mob

I don't see a statement that the shooter ran any balls. As I read it, he made a ball that was "not a money ball" and that was it. See the part in red.

I think you're misreading the part in blue. All the OP is saying is that each ball was worth $180, not how many were made. Trusting Mikey's account, which makes sense to me, just one ball was made and it was not a 1-10 ball, and so Raph didn't shoot further. The OP is just lamenting that Raph didn't get to keep shooting because, if he had (but he didn't), he might have made some balls, which were worth $180 each. At least, that's how I read it.

I took my wife to New York for our anniversary. We visited Steinway while we were there. I bought 20 tickets for the 10 ball break and run - it was up to over $1,800.00 that night. I couldn't be the shooter because I didn't play in that night's tournament. So I picked Raphael Debreao to shoot for me and told him that he was getting a healthy chunk of whatever we made. I was asked by several bystanders where I was from. I let them know I was from Maine. At that point Finnegan asked Raphael to go into the back room to talk. When they returned, Raphael broke and made a ball. Everyone was cheering. Finnegan walks up to me and said, "Sorry pal - he didn't make a money ball". I told him that this is the first time I ever heard anything about a money ball on a ten ball break and run. Especially when I was told that each ball made was worth over $180.00. He told me that it was the rules of the house - better luck next time. So that's how he treats visitors. That's the star of the new reality show for you - a lying, thieving P.R.I.C.K.

As for the cheering, I ran a break pot, too. In my experience, people cheer for the pot carrying over to the next week, not for the pot getting smaller.

OK, thanks.

I misread it that Raphael broke and ran a 10 ball rack.

I think I now understand what the story is. It's a 15 ball rack used with only payout on the 1 to 10, with the 11 - 15 used as obstacles only. It's paid for each cash ball made and the break is dry if the any of the 1 - 10 balls are not made. This makes a little more sense to me. Sounds like a fun and challenging game but I've never heard of such a thing.

The only question left is, why does Nuts4Tascarella's think only 10 balls were racked? This is a glaring discrepancy, especially since stories were matching by Raphael and Finnegan.

Best post yet on this thread. Might just about sum it up perfectly.

That's the second best post:

First is one guy with a made-up internet persona hiding his real name telling another guy with a made-up internet persona hiding his real name that he'd be embarrassed by getting caught posting without bothering to get the facts...

It made me wonder, would I be embarrassed if I stumbled over my words while making a crank call?

Or how about if I poked myself in the eye while flipping the bird to a stranger driving the opposite direction on a thruway?

Hmmm...

The OP sounds like a real character

You come on here slandering someone when you dont know the rules, you admit you don't know the rules.

Then you act like you are some kind of royalty by saying "i gave him the money and he didn't explain the rules" well.. ask him if you were so curious. Sounds like it is a regulers tournament and most people probably know the rules.. The jackpot didn't get that high for no reason.. People are going there and putting money in the pot.

Then you act like you are such a gentleman since it was your anniversary you didn't want to upset your wife by asking ANY questions, Yea i bet you were a real joy to be with after that regardless.

Then you come on here after sleeping for 24hours straight and people blowing your story to pieces and make one response as to how you are right and nothing could change your mind and you won't be commenting on the thread you started.

lmao.

You got hustled by the star of a show called the hustlers...shocking.

DING,DING,DING and we have a winner!!! Tell him what he's won Johnny and we have Butt Hurt cream for a pleasant parting gift for our OP.
