Fire at Salt City Billiards, Syracuse, NY

What year was that Jam?
Pool needs to get back to what is was then.

Our group is moving forward.
Looking to be fully open by mid August.
Will look to have big Wednesday night events prior to Turning Stone events. Be open 24 hours if the demand is there. Run mini tournaments. Try to get a couple monsters to matchup on a free live stream.
Will be 30 minutes from, the TS, threat driving, 4 no,idea later you are there.

We will post our progress here...its happening.

I'm pretty sure that tournament with Rempe and Karen in the finals was in 2005.

Looking forward to hearing about the new place. Sounds very cool! Good news for all pool peeps!

Ha, a landline pay phone, hope the original one makes the cut, clean-up for the new
location, imagen the story line over the transom on that one.
That was my first thought looking at the pictures, that there is a lot to continue on with.

I was laughing with one of the employees that there was no way there was $$$ in there BECAUSE it was in a pool hall. Guess those boys never made it to Salt City lol

In the past 60 hours we signed a lease for a space at 1900 Brewerton Road Mattydale just 2 miles south of the old location. It's in a small strip mall with a great diner, Dee's Diner. The room will have 8 barboxes, 8 nine foot and the only 5x10 foot heated billiards table in upstate NY. It will be setup with tournaments and action in mind.

Yesterday we closed the deal to buy the Salt City Billiards name, all rights and signage. This will continue the 26th year of the SCB name.

The work to fix the space begins soon and we will have 3 Gold Crowns in place by 7/9. We take possession of the entire 4600 feet on 8/13. Then we demolish a dividing wall, office and storage area. Install carpet and install the remaining 5 Gold Crowns and 8 bar boxes. This will be done by 8/30, the Wednesday prior to Turning Stone Classic XVIII.

We will host a big tournament Wednesday 8/30 to let the northeast and everybody know we got action. One of the premier players in the world has agreed to come support us. Looking to get him into an action match. This all will be live streamed at no charge.

During the Turning Stone Classic XXVIII we plan to be open as many hours during those 4 days as there is demand. There are players from all over country and the world in attendance. We will be open to host everyone looking to matchup. The location is an easy 30 minutes drive down the NY state thruway.

More to come....very soon we will be using the Salt City Billiards Facebook with 6900 followers to reach out to the masses. Pool is coming back to Syracuse in a very big way.

Congratulations! That is great news. Be sure to share on Facebook. It gets more traffic of pool peeps than here in recent times. The Joss Tour is another great way to advertise, especially hosting a Joss Tour event. Good for you. Wishing you much success

Pool is strong in many areas. Here we get about 300 days of poor weather so indoor recreational can be big.
Looking to get the game like it used to be locally. Its going well in Rochester because of good management and promotion, not so well other places that don't get the word out. We have lots of players who don't compete as much because it's been quiet. I can assure people, that ends soon.

I watched Scott Frost's video of the Ice House....just amazing . Just awesome to see people commit to that level. Much respect.

SBC...The really cool thing is that Rochester is steeped in pocket billiards history, with at least 3 world champion players to hail from there (The Deacon, Irving Crane; The (REAL) Iceman, Larry Hubbart; and Captain Hook, Mike Sigel, and probably several more that I don't know about! This is great news for the upstate NY poolplayers. Best of luck with continuing the adventure that has been Salt City Billiards for so many years! I look forward to visiting your room on my next trip through NY on the Thruway!

Seeing as how this is Syracuse, it behooves me to mention the best player ever from
Syracuse...Arthur "Babe" Cranfield.

And seeing as how this room is in Mattydale, I insist that Matty Sindoni make an appearance...
...I missed him last year....I trust my old friend Mr Capotto will be there....
...and I understand that Ron Kady has retired and moved away...perhaps he may visit
so I can continue his education in the French and Italian languages.

pt109...OOPS! Brain fart! I should have said upstate NY, instead of Rochester! Thanks for the correction!

The area from Buffalo to Albany has produced an inordinate amount of BCA Hall of Famers.
Danny Diliberto, Irving Crane, Mike Sigel, Larry Hubbart, Babe Cranfield, and Frank Taberski.
....I feel I'm missing someone....

The NYC, New Jersey, Philly area probably has more, but with a far greater population to
draw from.

That is a really small window, the completion to tournament. Gonna be madness and a lotta opportunity for miscues.

So where are you Syracuse people playing in the meantime?

Some have visited East Ridge Billiards in Rochester. Some participate in our Friday night bar box events. Always nice to see the guys stop by. Diamond Billiards told me some have visited them. Diamond is roughly ten miles west of us. Have to admit, I will be sorry to see Salt City re-open. Also must admit it will be great to have another pool room open in Syracuse. Best of luck Brian.

Yes, but lots of false starts have led to the right people being in place to execute now. I think you'll be impressed with the room.
