First off, no one asked me to do this. I found myself laying in bed thinking about the unfortunate event that happened at Salt City Billiards and all the people effected by it. How I've been going to Salt City since I was 16yrs old. How it's become a home away from home and the DelConte family has become close family as well. I know we all feel the pain of this and the DelConte's more so. So why do we show our love and support to them and to Salt City Billiards so that maybe we can have our home away from home back. All the memories and good times we all have had at this establishment, it's the least we can do and I truly believe the right thing to do. Salt City has been there for all of us over the many many years, let's give back and show how much we actually do care. We need to stick together, come together in this time of need and show our support in any way possible. So please donate if you have ever been there, or feel so passionately about this place as I do.

Thank you

Have at it all you good pool fans ! :yeah:

bump needed :yeah:

Terrible news. If any of the players who lost their cases want to buy a new case at some point we will provide a 50% discount to help offset the loss in some small way.

So ... are you saying there was NO insurance coverage for the building and contents ?

I never said a damn thing about insurance.

But I'll answer your off topic question just for the bump.

I don't know nor heard any details to insurance coverage................. :yeah:

Not wanting to piss anyone off but that was my first thought upon reading this. What kind of insurance coverage do they have? I know I always carried enough coverage in my rooms to offset a tragedy like this. For instance in my last room it cost me nearly 250K to build out and I carried 250K in replacement value. Insurance isn't cheap but you need it! I also had 2M in liability coverage just in case something bad happened in there. Shit happens!

The insurance paid out just fine, the owner additionally sold out and is moving on with his other ventures.

I just checked commercial RE in Syracuse, there's a ton of places in the 3K to 6K sq foot range for reasonable lease terms or sale. One you wouldn't even have to change the name, the other used to be a strip club. Sounds like there's an unmet need in Syracuse & therefore an opportunity for the right entrepreneur.

Here's some spots that lend themselves real nicely to a Pool Hall / Billiard Club. Admittedly, I don't know what's where in Syracuse so maybe the locations don't work. I also have no idea how strict the zoning is, but in down-state NY & in CT, zoning departments treat Pool Halls like strip clubs.

I may not be the correct person to post on this topic, but since the rails for 19 of the tables are currently sitting in my shop, I believe that gives me a little bit of credibility...

What I know:

-An individual has purchased all of the equipment from the previous Salt City Billiards.

-This new owner is incredibly ambitious, and has more passion for this game than anyone I have ever met. He is committed to saving billiards in Syracuse.

-He has found a suitable location, just north of the previous Salt City Billiards, and is currently waiting to finalize the lease agreement.

-None of the tables were damaged beyond repair. The worst of it seems to be from soot. However, everything has cleaned up very nicely.

-Current target date to open is 7/1/2017.

There are several members from the local pool playing community (including Ideologist and myself), who are contributing to the efforts to rebuild billiards in Syracuse. This is real, and will be happening soon. It might take a little more time, but it is coming together nicely.

Hi Goeff and tyvm for the info. Sounds like a comeback for the game !

To anyone who seen me answer earlier.
Yes I was pissed.
When somebody quotes me and asks about something different, then puts words in my mouth, it will happen.
So if you want to quote me and inquire, stay on the post you are quoting.

Very simple, unless you ARE SIMPLE. :yeah: :)

I saw on Craigslist that they're selling the equipment from Salt city billiards. Where exactly is the new location in Syracuse for the new Pool Room? Is the opening still for July or have things been scrapped?

Syracuse Pool Hall

Our group is considering a lease nearby the original location. Next week the offer to be submitted and it should go forward. Planned full opening by 8/1. Place is big enough for 16 tables, a bar and common area. We have everything needed and it's mostly been restored. Just dirty and needed TLC.

9 Bar tables will have slate beds covered tomorrow. Rails have been done. One table being sold tomorrow, other 8will be saved for room. When we get in we will get playing .

7 Gold Crowns 1s stripped, primed and painted with a black enamel. Ball boxes came out real nice. 2 diamonized gold crown 3s done by Mark Gregory. These will be sprayed with a black lacquer as before.

Sogren 5x10 heated billiards table will likely be put in. Several old timers play. Will be only one in Upstate NY.

Core group of dedicated players are putting time and effort into saving pool in Syracuse. At this point its time to move into the action phase and get the room open.

Room will be action and tournament oriented. Will have a big tournament on Wednesday nights before Turning Stone and pool throughout the event for action and mini tournaments.

Great photos! I remember that tournament. I think Keith came in third. Karen and Jim Rempe were in the finals. Jim won. Karen had been winning everything at that time, and Jim finally defeated her for a change.
