I just heard reports of massive flooding in Manila, 30" rain in last two days, 800,000 evacuated, a third of the city is flooded. My prayers of hope and help are with our billiard brothers in Manila.

I just saw some pictures of the people walking through 3 foot of water in the steets. Looks like more rain for the next 4 days too. Horrible. Johnnyt

flooding in PI

Very poor country. In other parts of the PI houses are built on stillts. Alot of poor people will not survive this.
The rivers there are part of the septic systems , very unhealthy and a sad problem.

I recall when my Cousin was a Subic Bay U.S.Navel Base, they got hit a couple times real bad with MONSOONS. He told me the people there worked their butts off to restore normality.

yeah we are poor but we're managing to survive. how many survived in katrina in a rich nation? seems you are an expert when it comes to our country. how long have you been here and when was the last time you were here?

thanks to the others who offered prayers for us.

poor

Last time i was in manila was 06
there nothing wrong with being poor. And I am not a racist .

And I have nothing against the pinoys .

You guys are going through a flood people are going to get sick.

Far as I concerned the sick people need medical care food and a clean place to live. Is this a problem..

pick a fight with some one else .

In a cruel world it seems that mostly the poor are victims. Sorry to hear about the flooding. I was isolated for 3 days in Tucson back in 1981 when we were flooded. My sympathy goes out to the PI people and hope relief comes soon. Hope the US government is aiding you in your time of need.

Thank for the guys offering their prayers, well indeed it sadden our hearts for the people that are affected, just imagine Monsoon rains can do this with no typhoon. even i was not spared from the flooding, my sister car's flooring was flooded, good thing i was able to salvage her car setups and disable the car battery just in case to save the car computer box. Her car is now for cleaning :( :). My home was ankle deep, but outside was thigh deep of flood water. Imagine yesterday water subsided already around 11am, we started cleaning our house, then all of a sudden heavy downpour of rains again, then suddenly flood water came rushing in again, hmmmp but God is good, for His protection for my family members. I also pray for my fellow country men who is experiencing much worse floodings.

Well the last i have heard that USA has sent $100,000 aid, i hope it will be put in good used.

100K is nothing, we should be sending a lot more. The Philippines is a friend to our nation!

My family in Pasay had their house flooded. Everything on the ground floor is gone, must be replaced. I sent them money yesterday to buy food and clean water for all their family. At least Western Union is open. That's all I can do from here. I miss my daughter and I'm glad that she's okay.

It was very bad in the northern and eastern parts of Manila; Marikina, Quezon City, Valenzuela and Calloocan all hit very hard. It's true some people will die afterward from infections (typhus) they get from being in the dirty water. My sister-in-law's son (he was 15) died in 2009 after spending days walking in chest high water to help the older people get to safety. I felt so bad when I heard this news. He was a real good kid.

I wish I could do more, maybe some day I will. They need better medical care for the poor people who cannot afford to go to a hospital. These people must suffer at home or wherever and if they are not strong they may die. So many can't afford the antibiotics that would save their lives. There is an abundance of well trained nurses and well equipped clinics there, but it is pay as you go. No money, no medicine. In an emergency like this I would like to see the government step in and help these people. Or maybe someone in the private sector can do something to help the poor people in a crisis like this.

Joyren please tell me what I'm missing here. Am I confused about this? This is what I have seen in my experience there.

Sorry to hear your family affected by flooding too, well almost evryone was devastated by this monsoon rain over 3 days. The flooding has subside in our area already, but some part of the country especially in Bulacan, Pampanga and Antipolo Rizal area are mostly affected with almost 1 storey deep of flood water. Just imagine the river and creeks overflows, you know Pasig river right, just imagine it almost overflowing too! then all Dams at spilling levels already and they have no choice but to release water rather face much worse devastation, so people are rather worried why water in some part have not subsided.

At least we can Thank God that all is safe Jay, materials can always be replaced but we have only 1 life to spare so always be safe

Also the rise of Leptopirosis ( pee from rodents/rats) if you have open wounds, this could be dangerous and it could kill.

Jay the problem with the poor they have no medical insurances, just imagine $10/ day for their wages, what can this feed a family of 4? Dont count out the government taxes, social security system, philheath that are deducted on their pay day. So whats left??? I think the minimum should be raise here.

Always stay safe

Yeah it's very sad to see this kind of tragedy. It's on the news everyday here in Taiwan, just hope it will subside soon. The following is a mail sent from my Philippines agent:

Hi Gary,

How are you my friend...? I hope you are doing fine as well as your job. Extend my greetings to your boss. I'm fine here, though our country is now experiencing heavy rains since the past days and floods are all over the country, including Manila. Our place in Manila where I am staying is flooded also, but thank God the flood is just on the street and not yet inside our house. But other places are really in deep water where what you can see are roofs of their houses only.

I haven't been going out for a while because of floods everywhere, so I've been busy doing my job at home, got a lot of deadlines to beat for my three clients. I've been busy writing computer programs......

I feel bad for the people in Manila and have said prayers as I have friends there, it is sad and people will die in those conditions. As for the US helping other countries and only sending 100K, its more than other countries probably have sent for sure, I would like to see big rich China send supplies that way and help out along with other countries nearby. We really have a good deal of problems here and I hate that the US plays world police and savior of all countries when we got 1,000s of people, families living in the woods of Florida, in cars and the streets. I think the US overextending itself is why we are in this mess in the first place, one day we will be the ones needing the help.

80% of Manila was under water this week! That's amazing in a city of possibly 20 million or more (no one knows how many people live there). So far 113 deaths reported but there will be more, a lot more. The monsoon (hurricane) season there may have as many as TWENTY major storms each year (far worse than Florida). It's a very volatile area of the Pacific.

I'm heading that way in one week, just hope it subsides a bit before my plane arrives. No fun trying to land a packed 747 in a rainstorm. :o
