100K is nothing, we should be sending a lot more. The Philippines is a friend to our nation!
My family in Pasay had their house flooded. Everything on the ground floor is gone, must be replaced. I sent them money yesterday to buy food and clean water for all their family. At least Western Union is open. That's all I can do from here. I miss my daughter and I'm glad that she's okay.
It was very bad in the northern and eastern parts of Manila; Marikina, Quezon City, Valenzuela and Calloocan all hit very hard. It's true some people will die afterward from infections (typhus) they get from being in the dirty water. My sister-in-law's son (he was 15) died in 2009 after spending days walking in chest high water to help the older people get to safety. I felt so bad when I heard this news. He was a real good kid.
I wish I could do more, maybe some day I will. They need better medical care for the poor people who cannot afford to go to a hospital. These people must suffer at home or wherever and if they are not strong they may die. So many can't afford the antibiotics that would save their lives. There is an abundance of well trained nurses and well equipped clinics there, but it is pay as you go. No money, no medicine. In an emergency like this I would like to see the government step and help these people. Or maybe someone in the private sector can do something to help the poor people in a crisis like this.
Joyren please tell me what I'm missing here. Am I confused about this? This is what I have seen in my experience there.
