Hurricane Irma is looking pretty mean having made land fall in the FL keys this morning/

They are saying the entire state and south GA are going to get knocked around with Tampa / St Pete possibly going to get the worst of the storm surge.

I have my youngest son, my D-I-L and grandkids hunkered down at their house in Orlanda, hoping for the best.

Please let us know how you all are doing in your areas and when it's safe, if possible, post some pics.

The rest of the country is praying for you!

Be well.

best,
brian kc

Its crazy how many folks I know from that area. I too am hoping that your family and everyone else gets out of this storm, and comes back to a home that is close to what they left. Sending prayers and positive thoughts to all who have gone through this or are about to.

Well, my house is going to take a direct hit from Irma. Unfortunately, we're in a low-lying area (>5 mi. from the Gulf), which will likely experience extremely strong winds and severe storm surge flooding tonight or tomorrow. There's absolutely nothing we can do at this point. Fortunately, both my wife and I are currently safe in Chicago. That said, we are very concerned about having a home to return to. :frown:

I am in Panama City and it looks like we're going to get lucky (unless things change). I am hosting fellow AZ'er JOEY and his wife from Bradenton, FL for a few days. We are drinking lots of beer (big surprise) and playing lots of pool in the garage!

You can come to my house. We can exchange lessons for lodging! Seriously though, you and the wife are welcome to crash here on your way back home if you need to.

Wife and I are riding it out in Tampa. We live in Carlolwood, which is high ground in FL. We just need to worry about the wind. Our four married kids are riding it out in ST. Pete and SpringHill. Feel sorry for those living close to waters. It's just after noon here and it's been raining for hours and the wind is picking up a bit. Johnnyt

Grove City, FL for me.

I could drive a golf ball into the bay (Lemon Bay) from where we're at, so our place is most likely going to be gone.

We're in Cherokee NC waiting it out and then see when it's safe to head back and check the damage.

People have to make sure all the roads are passable and fuel is available before heading back. Hopefully power won't be out more than a few days after it goes thru.

We are hunkered down in Palm Coast. Got lucky storm swung West. Raining all day. Winds only predicted to be 48mph tomorrow.

We had reserved a house for a week in Tennessee but decided to stay. Looks like we made the right decision.

For those on the Gulf Coast that westward path is a major disaster. I have friends and clients there. So far they are ok, but this is a very serious storm.

Pray everybody remains safe.

I have a buddy who lives in Sarasota. Said he's staying put. New home with all the anti hurricane goodies.

But I do have a bit of a mean streak. You see, he LOVES calling me when Oregon is in a deep freeze, asking "how's the weather there?", then telling me he's poolside sipping a drink.

Maybe I should call him now, and ask "How's the weather there?"....naw, guess not.

I live in vero
East coast florida so we will not see the worst of it
Some friends have lost power
Some still have power
Riding the storm out in michigan

Daytona here.....

Windy, rainy, power on so far. Locked up house on beachside, staying in warehouse on mainland. Plenty of food, drink, an supplies. Also have a nice diamond in ac here to play on!! Too bad I can't find a rack-pump during the storm!! :O) Stay safe and be healthy my friends! Doc

Our power went out after midnight. And it came back on at12:45pm. Lost a few shingles, that's all. We got very lucky when the storm turned west.

I have friends down in Fort Myers. They have 4 feet of water.

It's gently raining here in Panama City with the occasional wind. Am I the only one that thinks this was sensationalized by the media? I understand it was pretty bad in spots, but everything I was hearing was that this was going to be worse than Andrew. My buddy from Bradenton had a small palm tree uprooted. That's it.

I would think the media saved a lot of suffering...people were prepared....
...well, that and Irma dropping to Category 2...

easy;

I think they do make a big dramatic media event out of these things nowadays, even a 6 inch snow storm here in CT will get ridiculous coverage compared to when I was a kid. They make it dramatic because drama = ratings and ratings = advertising $.

That said, this hurricane had a lot of uncertainty and potential to poss be a worst ever storm. I think a lot of fortunate things happened making it much less destructive than it could have been.

On Sun morn I was watching one reporter who looked like it was taking all he had to stay standing in a wind swept rainy broadcast and then, apparently, unbeknownst to him, at the end of his report when he thought they shut down the cameras, I watched as his flailing arms went limp by his side and he began calmly talking with someone, a producer or similar. Yes, he seemed to be acting it up for the camera which imo, if true, he should lose his journalistic credentials over it.

Had a friend from UK staying at my house a few years ago and on one of her first night's here she was watching the local ABC weather guy and she couldn't get over the fact that he said the rain was "going to be crazy". She was laughing and asking "what does he mean the rain is going to be crazy?" She thought that was funny. I think I like the BBC News who provides facts and lets viewers take the info how they wish. ;)

On a more positive note, my gang in Orlando survived nicely just losing some fencing and a few small trees. Their electricity never went out.

I know a lot of people weren't as lucky but it sure could have been much worse.

best,
brian kc
