Food vs. Pool Performance

I watched SVB run out of food (fuel) the first day of the TAR match this weekend. The second day he brang a bag of food to keep his fuel levels at optimal levels and commeneted that he will bring the goodies with him in future matches.

Win, lose, or draw I am curious to know what types of foods you poolplayers use during long sets or tournaments to keep your play (concentration and stamina) the best?

Thanks,

Jay P.

Slim Fast protien shakes to quell hunger in a pinch. 5 hour energy when starting to fade combined with fruit, always fruit. Its not heavy on the stomach and it will give you energy. When I eat and feel full or bloated I cant play worth crap.

fresh fruit- yeah. Oranges, apples and bananas are my favorite: they're portable, self- contained, and long- lasting (...except for bananas, which have an optimal ripeness time of about 10 minutes).

This is an interesting topic.

I find I like to be a bit hungry for optimal performance. Not 'starving' but hungry.

If I let myself eat a meal, I get sloppy and lazy afterward.

I guess it is a primal thing- working for food or something deep rooted in the firmware or something... A light snack is a good idea.

To drink, I mix 1/2 seltzer and 1/2 coke for a lower caffeine drink. I usually load it with whatever fruit they have at the bar as well. (Plus it looks like a 'real' drink!)

Anyway, I also like the Quaker chocolate-dipped granola bars with peanut butter inside. Those are like a three-course meal in a foil package...:)

haha that actually made me laugh

sadly, I use nicotine to keep focused. usually i'm un-prepared in bringing food to tournaments, so i end up eating whatever junk is at the venue. ideally, dried fruits seem to be the best

On a tournament day (at WPBA events)...I will eat a light breakfast...fruit, yogurt, toast or bagel...things like this. Starbucks makes a "protein plate" that is awesome...and when I eat one to start my day, I feel great all day long. It has a mini wheat bagel with natural p-nut butter, a hard boiled egg, 2 little slices of lowfat cheese, grapes and 2 apple slices. Anyhow...if I need to eat lunch or supper before playing...I will try to stick to salad and soup...maybe a half turkey sandwich.

I have found that if I have sugar before a match...I will start out focused and "up"...but I will crash halfway through and get sluggish and sleepy.

Trail mix works great too. Anything that is a "complex carb", instead of simple sugars like refined sugar, candy or caffeine(it's not a sugar, i kno).

Like Melissa mentioned, caffeine, simple sugars and nicotine can give you the quick, intense "up", followed by an equal crash, soon after. Complex carbs give your body the steady juice that it needs.

Sheeeat! You are looking for a case of the Hershey squirts eating bar fruit. Nevermind the shit sits there until it is time to replace, add in the knife they cut it with...the surface it is cut on...the container it comes out of. Yuk.

You gotta stick to stuff that is safe/ sealed. Jaegermeister comes out of a bottle.

I like to freeze little bars of bacon grease and suck on them as I play. mmmmmmmm.

you are wrong for that:grin: i am a big fat bastard and the thought of sucking on frozen bacon grease makes even me want to hurl:barf:

Props on relating pool to computer hardware.

Nothing but bar food for me: greasy burgers and fries, maybe some of that MSG laden stuff from the chinese restaurant next door. If I make the money then I'll reward myself with some late night Denny's.

Personally, I don't like to eat heavy during or before a big match. Tends to bring me 'down'. Small, light snacks. Fruit and healthy stuff.
