For anyone who thinks pool's not stressful

I talked to Gabe yesterday, he told me about it. Very shocking. (He has unfortunately called with worse news, but it's been quite a few years)

I wish Fabio a speedy recovery.

I remember seeing Gabe at last year's tournament with a hole in his head from a spider bite. That certainly looked painful.

stress is bad shit, and makes strange things happen, i hope this guy recovers and things work out for him, perhaps he needs to re-think pool and what he is doing. As Jay said in another thread there is more than one route to success or happyness, self mutiltion isnt an option.

What ever, i just posted my opinion is all. Kinda strange dont you thnk? a fellow pro posting his name like that? another moment of insanity and ur name gets posted on the biggest pool forum on the net. Just doesnt sound right to me is all and i am not looking for an agruement either

I think the lesson to be learned here is don't have a moment of insanity like that and you don't have to worry about being "outed" as a crazy man.

Meanwhile, over on the one loss side, Fabio Petroni looked to get back on track....

Dude, you're seriously the funniest.

I like Fabio and respect him as a player, but the thought of someone melting-down like that is INCREDIBLY funny.

What did you mean by that?

I think Fabio is going to have a hard time playing pool in a straight jacket.

The is a local guy here, when losing, racking the balls will freeze up the one ball by banging his head on it. And he bangs it hard.

SOMEONE START A POLL !!!!!!

What I'd really like to know is, when someone reacts like this again in the future, will it be called:
A) The Fabio
B) The Petroni
C) Going Fab
D) Bazonga
I think the term you are looking for is "the Fab Four"

M.C.

I've heard Fabio was on drugs some time back. Hope he didn't resume that, or such behavior could be just a result of that. I wish him all the best, had a chance to talk to him several times, from Moscow to Manila. Fabio is a nice guy and a good player, I hope he was just so much frustrated and desperate that went berserk. What could you expect, it happens sometimes even to such gentlemen like Ralf Souquet who threw a bottle of water in a wall a couple of years ago at the WPC and before he went so mad at himself that injured his knuckles after he hit the table.
Tables are really destroying.

I thought those tables were only at my pool hall. :D

I just heard that they kept Petroni in the hospital overnight. I hope it is just for observation and not more serious.

On the bright side for Petroni, when and if he returns to tournament play he's definitily got his opponents sharked. Its like the Alfredo De Oro story in McGoorty's book, where De Oro beats Welker Cochran by not going to the bathroom... Only now its like, allright if I make this well, "Whats petroni going to do now!" I'd think it would be difficult to keep ones concrentation together when playing Petroni in the future...

On the other hand after smashing his head into a pool table - it might be equally difficult for Petroni to hold his concentration together. Of course, maybe everything is just "alright" after the pool table lobotomy.

I hope he has health insurance.

When I managed Amsterdam Billiards old eastside location, I would see quite a few of the pros (both men & women) from time to time. Fabio Petroni would occasionally visit and he's always been a class act.

I don't know him well but I'm familiar with the life of a professional poolplayer having heard the stories about rough times and transient living. These big tournaments, we have no idea what the impact of these events can have on their personal lives. It could be frustration stemming from pure competitiveness, having blown an opportunity to beat a great opponent or it could be as simple as making sure enough cash was won to pay the rent. I don't know nor would it be fair to fathom a guess.

All I know is, as a fellow pool player, I am sympathetic. I hope he's okay.

to twist an old joke...

I went to a pool tournament and a hockey game broke out...

The story is just too weird.

Shades of Crazy Bruce from Miami, a head basher of the highest order. His favorite was to run full speed across the poolroom with his head down, and straight into a wall. And knock himself out cold. I shit you not!

Scalp wounds will bleed profusely, due to all the small blood vessels in our scalp. It looks worse than it is most of the time. Frankly I'm surprised too. I never saw Fabio act anything like that. All I ever saw him do was try to win.

I'll lay heavy he just got crazier and CRAZIER.

With regards to FABIO it just shows to go you that GOD gave some men hair and others brains.

With slight mods one of my "hats" may serve him well. My R@D team are looking into it as I type.
