I know this is not a post with a Titlist conversion, but I figure it would be read by the right people...
Why would someone doing a Titlist conversion ever want to add a ring above the wrap (i.e., transform the full-splice Titlist into a short-splice)?
I know that aesthetics might be the answer, but if so, then why not just start from a freshly made short-splice blank made with Titlist veneers?
Just curious. Seems to subvert the whole point of having a high-quality full-splice blank to work from.

Man this cue is absolutely sick!!! Simple, yet elegant. Wow. One of my all time faves.
The most famous Titilist was the Willie Hoppe two piece cue. It was a Brunswick product many of which were made by Rambo that introduced us to the Rambo ring.
In its pureist form the points are brought even while trying to keep the weight, all of or part of the Hoppe name.
Than there is always some like wrapless, some don't.
What Swest is saying is if you attach a handle and an a-joint on a titlist blank, you have in essence built a cue with a short splice. It may surprise you that many one piece hoppe cues end up with some sort of a-joint and many end up being somewhere under the wrap. Some blanks are to small, some have damage you have to remove, so to hide it, you slide the point wood down and insert a partial handle, there are a few reasons that it becomes necessary to modify a hoppe and include an A-joint.

I guess I can also imagine the possibility that since the forearm section is the least likely to warp (due to the splice), one might have to cut off a warped handle section to salvage a good forearm.
Well that's what I'm going to imagine from now on when I see an otherwise beautiful conversion that has a ring stuck right where it oughtn't to be :smile:

I have two: A Pancerny and an A.E. Schmidt. The Pancerny was a blank converted by Mike just a few months back. The other one is a conversion I ordered from the A.E. Schmidt Co. in St. Louis back in 1973.
I am leaning toward getting the A.E. Schmidt refurbished here shortly and haven't decided if I will keep it original or convert it into something a bit more modern.

Living in Sweden there´s not so much to do than purchase cues and talk to cuemakers to learn, see different types of building ways, joints etc etc so you can try them out. And I don´t have a Titleist and have never even seen or tried one out - arghhh.

Hey Joe, Dan ! I took some pictures of the "GLENN" Collection at the ICCS but they didn't turn out good. But MAN you want to talk about some Titlist that would blow your mind. Does anybody have any PICTURES of Dennis Glenn's collection from ICCS ? Be great for this THREAD ! Joe, how u looking on the S.D. cue ? Coming soon to a theater near you ? Thks, Dan

Please, leave that A. E. Schmidt alone if you choose to have it refinished; it's beautiful just the way it is.
