If someone opened a Billiard club just for women would that be legal? If it is I would like to see how it did business wise. I have a hunch it could be a gold mine. In fact if it's legal I might try to talk two of my daughters into opening one for me. And I don't mean something with Pink tables either. Johnnyt

There is a pool hall that only serves to men, the kicker is that it's owned by a woman. They give a lifetime membership (free) to men but don't allow women at all to join.

Can't tell you any more than that because I have never been there to view the ignorance/irony first hand.

I don't think this would do any better than the poolrooms that we have today.
Look how many are closing as it is. I hope you succeed if you decide to try this venture but I wouldn't invest my last dollars into it if I were you.

If you have male strippers in there, ya. Aside from that, I don't see how anyone would go there. The only women I have seen go into pool halls are on dates. It may be legal though. You can have lots of women only things, colleges, gyms. Just put something in there about how the women need to play pool free from the unwanted attention of men and you are set.

I say go for it.

There aren't men on womens sports teams. Have your daughters say she is trying to get teams of women players together. If a guy comes in, they can say "We're a womens only club. And as soon as men are allowed to compete in the WPBA, then we'll call you."

Bowling has leagues divided between men & women, why not pool?

how many women are in your area? even if it's 50/50 you cut out half of your business. do the chicks in your area like to play pool enough to support a business like that? i've only seen 5 women that play even half as much as your average guy would

Thank you Jude. I still feel like I should look into it though. I have heard 1000's of times from women that they don't like or won't go in a Billiard Rooms because they are constantly getting bothered by guys hitting on and the stareing and dirty remarks.

I tried to hit on the wrong one a few years ago here in Tampa. I played a few games with her and asked her outside in my car to smoke some weed. She was an undercover cop. I'll tell the story how I got out of it someday on here. Johnnyt

Jay...Why would he get sued? There are tons of private "men's clubs", that do not allow female members. Augusta National Golf Club is just one of note. They don't get sued by women trying to join...why would Johnnyt?

From a female point of view...I do not think it will fly. Women are incredibly fickle creatures, and can change their likes and dislikes at the drop of a hat. Can be VERY difficult to please. Add to this that many have more demands on their time than men do in general...what with relationships, families, work, and any other outside interests.

Also, a large group of women might not get along as well as you might hope for...and can often be quicker to throw down than many men. I have been a member of a 30+ year old strictly womens pool league for better part of 10 years now. Every single year there is drama, some years the drama is bigger than others, but it is ALWAYS there. These women couldn't get along if their lives depended on it.

Just thought I would throw some food for thought into the discussion.

No, it's not that simple. If this were a race issue, there would be an uproar. You can't create a whites only poolroom and then expect everything to be okay because it's private. Now, since this is gender specific, scrutiny is not as severe. Since it's providing a service for women, it's even less severe but you may still be subject to a Civil Rights lawsuit. The act is vague enough to allow a court to rule either way depending on the specifics of the case.

Did you read my entire post?

You need to follow this thread more carefully. First, the "violation of the civil rights act" comment I made was specifically referring to a men's only establishment in Florida. YES, you can't have a men's only club without being in violation of this act. If you provide any sort of service whatsoever, you're going to need to provide an equal service for women. Now, in most cases with women's only establishments, there is already another establishment available to men however, that is not ALWAYS the case. If, for example, I created a gas station for members only and my membership was specifically and exclusively women and one day I found myself to be the only gas pump in the state, I could then be in violation of the Civil Rights Act where as before, I may not have been.

When it comes to stuff like this, there ARE a few things which are absolutely positively without question wrong and there are somethings that are also just as right but the gray area is HUGE and you have to respect that the specifics of the situation could yield different results if a lawsuit came about.
