Obviously he has been around for awhile and is a great player, but I have never heard of this guy?

He is a barbox stud! He was one of the best players on the barbox with a big cueball. He is really good on the big table too. He placed at the dcc awhile ago, but I can't remember if it was 9 ball or banks.

I am going to assume this is a valid statement and not a joke by cuechick.

He is said by some (including me) to be the best bar table player ever (lets not start that argument though). I think he is originally from Rolla MO and has spent most of his playing years in Kansas, Olathe to be more specific, the past couple of decades. He is also an accomplished big table player. He came very close to winning the all around at the DCC two years ago but came up a bit short. You can look it up but I believe he won the banks and came in second in the one pocket. Some say that if Corey Duel & Efren weren't given a 'bye' in one of the rounds of the 9 ball tournament, he would have won. David is an accomplished player at all games. He is a great billiards player & I think knows something like 56 different diamond systems.

I hope that is enough info for you.

I was defiantly not joking (and I am blonde!) and I now remember some mention of him in 'the best player in your state' thread I think. I think there can be no question of his ability being one of the last Americans standing! I just saw his pics too in the gallery and thought he was pretty handsome, though I am guessing he is taken! ;) ;) ;)

Where is he from and is an IPT card holder or did he win a Q'er?

He won the qualifier in Vegas last May. He is from Olathe Kansas.

Well even though he is not one of my "horses" I am rooting for him and all the americans. How exciting would that be for a Q'er winner to make it to the final round!

Dave Matlock is a legendary player and his reputation precedes him as the BEST bar box player in the world. And he is pretty cute! Don't know if he is taken or not.

Hey there, cuechick! How have you been?

David Matlock is an awesome player. He told me he is really into 3 cushion also. He plays everything! I was playing scotch doubles with him in Vegas about 3-4 years ago at the Cue Club. They accidentally turned our table light off and he still ran out every rack, even with his obvious handicap of a partner :) He has a fluid but powerful stroke, and never looked like he had to think about how to play the next shot. I have seen some very impressive players...but he is way into the top 10 for me.

Oh, and he is SOOOO nice!

Well I just saw Jams post in the gunslinger thread and it appears he is very taken, ce la vie! ;) The good ones usually are!

Hey girl, I am great...congrats on your Q'er win! That is so great, what event are you planning to play in?

Thanks for the info! What a great partner...but it appears he is taken
;) oh well...

David Matlock is one of the greatest players who never made a name for himself beyond the innermost circles of pool.

In the days of barroom pool on 7 foot tables using the BIG cueball, David had no equal. He was considered to be the very best at 9-ball on barboxes with the big cueball.

I don't think David was ever considered the best on the barboxes with the regular cueball, although I don't think he had many people looking to play him either when he was in his prime.

My ex-wife booked David for an exhibition a few years ago. She had one stipulation, no safeties. David put on the most amazing display of pool that I have seen in years. He ran out from so many impossible positions that I lost count. There are probably folks here on this board who remember that visit to Colorado.

David has never been known for his big table prowess but he can play well on them and he has terrorized the midwest throughout his career.

If any of you can get it, get David's long lost video on Bar Box 9-Ball. In it he tortures Johnny archer and Steve Mizerak. I have it and that may be my contribution to somehow convert it to DVD and put it up on YouTube for everyone to enjoy. Colin, can you do something like that?

I got to know him a little when he lived in Denver and then later when I lived in Wichita. He is the most knowledgeable, dedicated and hardworking pool player I know.

He was always looking to practice or play, he loved to show people diamond systems and other things. He didn't seem to care if they were complete novices or experts, he just liked to show them a thing or two as well as see if there was anything he could learn from them. He taught me a couple of aiming tricks that since he did, I just don't miss those types of shots...well hardly ever.

He had a standing bet for anyone in the world to come to play him at his home bar in OK, but they had to bet at least $10,000. I don't think he had many takers.

Despite his success on the barbox, he was just getting dedicated to the big table when the Camel tour disappeared so I don't think pool fans really got to see his game much. It looks like the IPT has come around and given him something big to play for.

I have been meaning to post this for days....I wish him the best of luck and I'm very happy for him and the success he's having in this tournament. I think he'll be one of the bona fide stars of the IPT.

Cheers,
RC

Damn youngsters . . . . :p

I am gonna guess that you were born in the early to mid 80's. Do I get a prize?? :D

The man got game and I am very proud to see him work through everything he has been through over the years and be at this good point in his life. When he takes this down . . . . well, I'll be a happy camper.

Way off buddie, I remember the 70's! though I was a mere child ;) However, I did not pick up a pool cue till the late 90's so in that way I am pretty young!

And I played in the 70's and 80's in Oklahoma, Kansas and Wisconsin and lost my way in the 90's and 2000's. Sounds like a scotch doubles team to me. You can carry 200+ pounds in a match, right? 'Cuz I'm a heavy partner these days. Just ask Timberly. :p

I can't even carry my own fat a$$ so when the both of us are at the table it's excruciating for anyone to watch! :p

Scott, you've seen cuechick... even though you might not remember it. She was at the tourney in Athens. Has a pretty sporty game from what I'm hearing... she could carry ya. ;)
