free tAR vs PPV tAR

I would GLADLY pay $20 for a week's worth of action table braodcasting - ALL I ask for the money is an UPDATE once in a while as to what the game is and what the score is. IF there is ANY way to display that info on screen I would be ecstatic.

That said I have gladly, happily donated $10 towards the FREE feed fund and will do so again.

HOWEVER I asked REPEATEDLY in CHAT for TAR's paypal address and was IGNORED. Put the word out fellas when you are asked and you might be surprised at the response.

I did however get TAR's paypal from my paypal since I bought the Duell/SVB match.

for the record for anyone wanting to donate - it's merchandise at theactionreport dot com

I'd pay for the live feed LONG before I'd pay for the Webb/Rousey match...

Although I am sure you are spot on with your judgement, its unfair to base this on a PPV of a couple B/B+ players. No way I'd buy it. If the live feed and the PPV were both up for free, I'm sure you could guess where the most users would be...

I am pretty sure I am going to buy the Chohan/Daulton match. If I do not, I'll, at least, buy something off their site for the live feed.

I think the live action feed has a futeure. I'd pay for it EVERY time as long as it was not overpriced. Its one of the best pool products I have seen. The Frost/Chohan comentary was EXCELLENT!

Anyways, yeah, the 800 I saw won't be anywhere in sight for the other PPVs :( Hopefully TAR can make a little more dough on the live feed next time. Anybody who watched it this time will surely miss it if they don't buy it next time.

One more thing, they are B+ (A- maybe) players... deal with it before you attack me ;)

Monica is no B player by a long shot and Sarah is drilling her so far. Dont forget Sarah has the highest finish by a female in the DCC 9 Ball history
(20th)

I have purchased every PPV the action report has had. Even though the women's match up was less appealing to me (see other thread where I took bashing from several people who probably didnt pony up their $10 to watch), I still purchased it. I will probably get the Shane/Allen match and the Chohan/Daulton match even though I might not be able to watch most of it. It is a shame that there are so many cheap bastards in the pool world.

1000 subscribers at $20?

Sorry if this sounds negative but this wont happen. Instead 100 will buy and 900 will sit on the sidelines saying, "they gave it free last year".

You see it in the pool room, all those cheap mofos who drink water, order a cup of coffee and complain about why their pool room doesnt have the money to recover the tables every year. I don't understand why it has to be this way, but only when theactionreport dies off will people be willing to fork over some dough. By then it will be too late.

Enjoy this while it lasts.

I agree with charging a little for the whole period of streaming, 15 to 20 bucks will do. I've just made a donation via PayPal though I don't have an account there! First I was worried that I won't be able to donate for that reason but clicked the button just to see where it takes me, and voila - credit card payment is accepted even there!
Like it was a very nice offer by Matchroom to provide 3 days of fine Mosconi Cup stream for 10 (later 15) dollars, good deal.
If charging for the whole week some people probably wouldn't feel bad if the connection drops or picture becomes a blank screen on one day, as they will be satisfied with other days. And it is impossible to watch certain action because of time difference in various regions. If I had, for instance, to pay for today's SVB vs Hennessee game I would feel sorry I missed the end just because I didn't have an opportunity to watch (especially knowing Shane ran 6 straight racks), but if I paid for a week it is not that painful. Hope you understand what I mean.
So my donation goes as an approvement of great effort by The Action Report team who bring us the live action from Louisville.

What an odd coincidence that the people that were available for the free feeds over the last few days (which consistently drew 500 viewers) all had prior commitments for tonight's PPV feed (which peaked at 58 viewers as the 10B began).

It's too bad all 440 of those people missed the opportunity to donate their measly $10 to the tAR cause. Oh well, I'm sure Chad & Justin are more than happy to continue negotiating the rights to haul in & set up all that equipment and establish the video service with the hotel & their ISP. From what I can see, they have strong backs.

Hey, they've made something like $600 so far. Surely that's covered their living expenses for the last few days, the cost of all that fancy equipment, the cost of the PPV feed,...,etc.

I can't get the ppv deal to work on my computer. I'm running windows 98se, maybe that's the reason, but all I know is it won't work on my computer. I don't think I'm alone. The free feed worked ok although it locked up my computer a few times, but I enjoyed watching it. I would gladly pay the $10 if I could get it to work.

About 1 1/2 hours before the end of the match Shane went from 2 ahead to 8. I was unable to see every shot, but numerous people said he did not miss, and I did not physically see him miss a ball.

I know some of you had choppy vid and audio-- there are many causes of this. I'm positive the network here had something to do with that. Everything TAR is doing streaming-wise is the move; although, the ISP here isn't the best. I'm confident when they get outside of this hotel, everything will be back to smooth sailing. If they can find an I-BAHN-supported hotel, they can probably do two tables at one time without worrying about chopasaurus, choparusky, the chopinatorrrrr....etc. Some of the difficult times in streaming here are simply not their fault. They even paid for a dedicated internet -- and they're not getting it. According to Wayport, they can't prevent the filesharing on the network here. I asked them, "Well, based on that.. .how can you call it 'dedicated' if someone is downloading Kazaa stuff on our line? To me, that's still a shared line!" My point is, TAR did the right thing in attempting to pay for a dedicated line and Wayport simply didn't deliver.

Some people responded to my thread sounding a little defensive. I promise I wasn't calling anyone out specifically. I was just trying to get you guys to support something you obviously love.

I LOVE YOU GUYS MAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!

Ya Shane won several racks in a row a couple times, once earlier in the match when he was down 6 games and once when they were close to even, but he didn't run 6 racks in a row...

John shot several times in that last big swing, he just dogged a bunch of balls.
John is an excellent kicker, and he even missed 2 kick shots completely, it was sad to watch him melt down like that...

Shane won the 2nd half of the match and that is the one that counts... LOL

Spider, just pony up and admit that its all your fault man, damn.

I only watched a little of the free stream 2 nights ago for about an hour... I just cant sit in front of the computer and watch pool unless I am at work or something. I'd rather watch it on TV. Which is why I bought the SVB vs CD DVD set from them. As soon as the release the SVB Vs Earl set I will buy that as well.

Same debate different channel...I tried to read this whole thread and the same pts will be made about tonights ppv( I think SVBvAllen). What seems to be evident is that the ratio of viewers free to paid is 15 to 1 or there abouts. I think that ratio will prove to be pretty valid. The TAR babies(i like that) should be the most aware of these figures of all of us pool freaks and what they do with this information is yet to be seen. I truely hope they can figure out a model that works for all of us freaks. Doing something you love and calling it work is a dream come true for any of us but reality sucks sometimes. If these guys can figure out a way to continue it simply would be great. I hope they have the wherewithal to improve their product and stay on the road make'n a living play'n pool...:)

The one suggestion in the thread that should be easy to do is: have a scoreboard to view because the volunteer people in the booth just can't seem to pay attention long enough, they're to busy smoke'n and joke'n. Now I'm not saying that is a bad thing but for those who are actually interested in the match could just mute them and beable to enjoy the action. Now if they actually had commentators who where giving color it would be twofold the pleasure. With an up to dated scoreboard the booth rats could go off on their flights of fancy, the chat wouldn't be contaminated with "whats the score~who's playing~whats the bet~who won the...~"...you get the picture....and we all went to heaven in a little row boat.......:)

For myself I know I will enjoy the coverage tonight if I don't have to work....:)

yes, I voiced the same suggestion in the chat room and I'm sure I was'n the first one. Who's playing, stake, spot, score info is important.

I didn't read the entire thread

I didn't read this entire thread so what i have to say might have already been said:

1. Pay one fee for entire week. Even if it's 50 or so, i'd feel better about getting the entire week. IMP 10 bucks for one match is too much. I'd like to watch many matches and paying 10 per doesn't do it for me. So, for me i'll buy one match and that's it.

2. Record the matches and have them available for paid users to watch when they want. That way a great match at 3 am will not be missed.

No one is obligated to pay for it... get off your high horses. More people watch the free version, I'm shocked!

You want to help do something constructive, post the link to the PPV here just before it starts and give updates. I watched one of the free ones because someone posted it here and it was -easy-... I didn't pay $10 because I don't know who's playing when and I don't care enough to do whatever minimal work is required to find out.

Could it be...

I think everyone has missed the big, I mean small, picture here. Internet streaming has not been perfected. There are too many bottlenecks out there. For example, I have fiber running right to the back of my house. My bandwidth averages around 2.0Mbps. Yet when I watch the free stream, it is still too choppy for me to enjoy it.
I think that most of the 400-500 people viewing the free stream at any given time are like me in that they are just checking it out to see how well it works.
I think that it is not fair to compare streaming PPV with other formats such as tv PPV.
TAR is doing good to keep revenue flowing with the DVDs, advertising, and other merchandise. It would be unwise for any company to rely heavily on streaming as primary income because it just is not good enough yet.
I think that TAR is doing a great job. There is a donation link right on their home page at http://www.theactionreport.com . I say keep the free stream as a "test bed" and allow people to donate at will. I think they will get better feedback concerning the technical stuff this way.
