Gambling - and Everything About It

This weekend at the J. Pechaur tour at Side Pockets in Marietta, GA there were at most five people in the room willing to bet that water was wet.

I saw one player that wanted to match up, but he was flat bust and there wouldn't have been another player in the room that would have matched up with him fairly if he could have gotten it.

I made side bets with Gene who owns a poolroom in Villa Rica, GA and showed some gamble and another gentleman from his room.

AZBs own Southpaw offered to match up with me, but we could not make a fair game. He didn't know my speed so I can't fault him for not wanting to offer me the weight I would need. I even offered a game I thought might have been fair and told him if he didn't believe so, he didn't have to pay me. To his great credit he refused to play any game and not pay up.

Mike Janis laid me odds for one sweat bet as well.

There were three champions in the room and none will bet a dime. One of the Southeast's premier gamblers was in attendance and I couldn't even get a bet on a coinflip. I am known as a pretty good lines maker, but my win percent for the year is only 69%. This is pretty good, but consider that a backer betting even money on every set must win at least 67% of the time just to break even if they are splitting evenly.

Thanks to all those who showed me some action or at least tried.

What is wrong with players now?

The bottom line is nobody has any money and what money they do have they are holding on to.

Between casino's, on line poker, $4.00 gas, no tournaments and the sh!tty economy in general it is tough to get action. We just spent a week in Vegas with 7200 pool players. You know how many sets over a $1000 we saw that were not planned?

One.

Yeah, I sure miss the late eighties and early nineties. Now, you have to outrun the nuts to play for more than $10 a game. Crazy.

you know how much I won on that set?

$1000

you just have to pick your spots.

however I agree there is no action because there is no $$$$, shits just started to get bad here give it a year, you wont see 7200 players in vegas.

Tough finding good action nowadays.. It always makes me wonder what gamblers do after they can't find anyone to gamble with?????

Do they end up working in a fast food joint? or maybe a hostess at a nice resturant? or maybe a bank teller?

If there is NO ACTION.. what do gamblers do?

Oh... I remember, it is everyone else's fault... no one will gamble with me so it is their fault.

I had a win % even higher 69% for over 18 months. Then i hit a brick wall with no exits for a while and now I dont think I want to discuss how great of a handicapper I am. bleh:(

Well, I think you are the one with no gamble. You get on here and say that nobody would bet water's wet, after the tourney?!

I totally would've bet water is wet! ;)

But seriously...lack of action is all over. I haven't been to the poolhall unless I had a prearranged game for approx 2yrs now. It is sad and LAME!

Dude, I'm not trying to insult you or anything, but if you haven't been to the pool hall without a prearranged game in two years, aren't you a part of the problem? If no one goes, no one will gamble.

Again, I'm not the biggest gambler you'll meet, so please don't take that wrong.

PErhaps~! I don't know whether the egg came before the chicken, but I do know that I have no desire to hang out in a poolroom for hours and not get played, ever, and that happened enough that I wrote the pop-in off.

Down here in South West Florida there is plenty of action. I won $8000.00 two day's ago and anyone that know's me know's how bad I play. Last night 2 guy's one $18,000.00 playing a partner's game so there is still action you just need to find it..

I think Diamonds in Cape Coral might well be the action spot of the entire Southeast USA right now. I dunno...just keep hearing about BIG dollar games going down over there.

I think that maybe the guys who are asked to gamble also dont make the game right.

Ive talked with one guy and he only wants really long races and will give a minimal spot. Not saying I suck donkey ass or anything but a 9-11 race for a guy who could probably spot me 2 games to 5 or 6 is a bit unrealistic.

Around here, Ive never had anyone offer me a ball spot. There is one ball handicap tournament on saturdays that I am going to try and go to, I play as a 6 so the majority of the solid players will have to spot me the 7 or something.

What works in which players favour, ball spot VS game spot?

If a player can spot you more than one wild ball then a game spot means almost nothing. From my experience the 6 out is harder to spot than 8 games in a race to 10.

Depends on the level of play.
