Genuine Concern Over AzB

Experts

The only problem I had with the "For Sale" section was the all knowing cueologists jumping in and scaring somebody off and ruining a deal.
When I would list a cue I would keep my fingers crossed that some idiot that believes he has seen every aspect of every cue from every builder to ever stand in front of a lathe would give some consideration prior to shooting his mouth off.

The best example of that was the rare Palmer on eBay last year.

Someone started a thread to the effect it really wasn't a Palmer. The experts chimed-in and the ruined the sale price. Well ruined it for the seller. The buyer got one of the rarest Palmers I have ever seen. It was so rare that experts were in denial it was a Palmer.

But it surely was and has since been verified.

I got in the crosshairs with a Scruggs I had. Simple yet beautiful cue. Had a good deal going on. BAM. "The marque is wrong. Not a Scruggs".

Ended up losing my sale and price.

A couple years later a member contacted me and about it as he purchased it from the guy I sold it to. Sent me a picture. Made me wish I had never sold it. :(

As I write this, 10:45 am on Sunday, there are still posts from yesterday at 3pm here on page 1.

It seems to me that traffic on az is way down.

Am I figuring this wrong?

I've been reading how some key posters have been migrating away to facebook, maybe this is what's siphoning posters away.

Whatever it is, I don't like it.

I'm sitting here with my Sunday cup of coffee looking to catch up on what's new but I quickly ran into yesterday's topics.

Is there anything we can do to fix it?

I would sincerely love for AZ to remain the go-to destination on the web for everything to do with pool.

Are people going to an AZ Facebook page to interact there, instead?

l don't use facebook much. :o

best,
brian kc

I think the best way to deal with this is to cut the cord to your computer and get out of your house more. If topics from yesterday still showing up on page 1 is really that worrisome to you, you have issues.

I never once claimed to be issue-free.

I have a boat load of them.

A Carnival cruise ship, actually. :grin-square::rolleyes::eek::)

I used to log into AZ several times daily, now once or twice per week at most. All of the feuding, trolling and $hit stirring is just too much. The info used to interesting and valuable, but rarely do I see it worth while nowadays. JMHO

Facebook is the black hole of the internet, I used to be on another forum that is completely gone because of it along with many other sites! It draws so much attention that other sites just lose their popularity and the funny thing is there's never anything of much value ever posted there.

I have sold a lot of items on forums over the years and don't understand why azb didn't capitalize more on the for sale forum and just charge a low flat % fee for every item sold instead of having memberships. The for sale forum had a ton of potential to be highly lucrative.

Between the changing of the for sale forum and the memberships and the migration of members I think has led to a lot less drama on here and those types of threads seem to draw the most views so other members get bored and migrate elsewhere.

As we have discussed many times, American pool in general is at a low state. What is happening here on AZ is just a sign of that. This website in particular is missing some of the former regulsr posters that gave the AZ some color and texture. "Lock n Load," "Chop Doc," just to name a couple. The Lock Society wasn't real by any means but it was like a secret frat within this community and helped us develop a brotherhood, then if I can recall several really awful things happened at once and The Lock Society all but disappeared and we rarely, if ever see Lock n Load here at all anymore. The Lock Society, for being kind of a silly thing gave this place some color, some texture and a piece of it's identity.

A huge part of this websites identity was chopped off when the wanted/for sale section changed. For all the b!tching that went on there it made AZ fun to read and participate in.

Face it, for the most part AZ has become pretty vanilla.
It still has some charactars that give it a bit of color, Sev, RKC (though inconsistent), lorider, justadub, Kickin' Chicken, and some others, mostly on NPR, but overall many of the discussions become "unenthusiastic" and seem to lack teeth. It used to be a lot of fun to log in and sit back and watch John Barton take on all of the East Coast or anyone that criticized his YouTube videos, now John has gone the way of the T-Rex, little more than a distant memory for some, and just a name on a case for some others.

It's still a great place (grate?) and a great source for news and information and some conversations are still interesting to watch and participate in, but this place ain't the same, I wish it was.

I feel much the same and know many others feel that way also. There are threads I rarely participate in because I know the shit storm will very shortly begin all over again.

Based on the pure visit numbers going to the forums, the traffic is still trending upward.

I'll take that compliment and run with it. :D:D:D

This is interesting. I go months without coming into main because of the garbage. But then I come back and find some decent info and enjoy it again.

The main problem, imo, is people don't respect others opinions, and, are arrogant. I Read something in the Drills thread they said something like "when you're not better in 10 years you'll know why." (Or something of the like). That statement is somewhat inflammatory and is likely to garner a return inflammoatory statement and so on and so on. It's arrogant to assume that our opinion is correct and disrespectful to others to present it as fact.

Let's have our opinion, share it so we can all learn from one another, and leave the idea that "my way" is the ONLY right way. It can be right for you, doesn't make it right for everyone though.

I don't care if a person has 100 years of doing it their way and it worked so it's now fact. I'll bet my bottom dollar that someone, somewhere, has done it completely different and it also worked. The amount of arrogance in some posts is staggering. Hell, this post notwithstanding.

Yeah, I miss L&L, too. I was a Sergeant in the Society, hoping to get a field promotion to second Louie. To every thing; turn, turn, turn. :sorry:

The only reason I logged in was to agree with this. I'll add that most all the gals have left and the pros as well, that's an indication of what's happening at this forum. Too much garbage content and too much BS.

Personally I haven't even played pool for months. I used to be on AZB for hours every day but this is the first time I have even looked at the site in over a month. Now that its nice outside I have been fishing a ton and enjoying the outdoors and pool hasn't even crossed my mind lately. Also I started to find that AZB is very repetitive in its forum. A lot of the same questions are asked everyday and not a lot of interesting subject matter. I do love the site and it has done a lot of things for me but lately it just hasn't been holding my interest.

Just look up Lock & Load on FB.

Facebook? FACEBOOK? Slowly I turned. Step by step. Inch by inch.

I don't want anything to do with Facebook. No way, no how. This place is bad enough, but that's sheeple land over there. Selfieville.
It's hard enough trying to make a living over here. I wouldn't last a day over there.

Tramp I have ignored FB for many years but I have been recently visiting it more. I will never stop AZ but there are many friends and family wanting me to visit over there.
