Genuine Concern Over AzB

You know, Terry...it just struck me why I like my AZ presence instead
of going on FB and introducing myself.
Zen Buddhists ask "What is the sound of your true voice?"
On here, we have the chance to drop our everyday persona ( which
means mask ) and maybe express what we really think.

You know something, my old friend? I think I'm more Tramp Steamer, than I am me.
As Tramp Steamer, I'm a devil-may-care, man about town. Always telling jokes. Owner of a large corporation that sell cues, and cue tips, world wide.
In reality I'm just an old pool player who likes One Pocket and golf.

I have a friend up here who is a retired fire chief....
...we crack each other up telling stories at the pool hall.

Does this remind you of anyone, Tramp?

They are doing monthly drawings so maybe weekly contests?? I know Fast and loose had some layout challenges... So maybe something like that that was ONLY available here each week? I could donate some product and am sure a few others would be willing to do the same... Just something that I had thought about awhile back and left on the back burner......

Chris

Also misses the how would you shoot this? type threads... I know they take time todo and it's spring but maybe?

Indeed it does. In another life I knew a retired Fire Marshal. Handsome devil, as I recall.

I'm not reading all 8 pages of this....so if its already been mentioned, my apologies. Based on the initial post, this has been the trend over the last few years with forums in general. You can thank social media (failbook, twatter, g+, etc) for the decline in forums and forum activity.

One of my car forums has really declined. My tech forum has never been busier, but its a very specific technology, which is why its thriving....but the cliche' forum we have all known over the years is becoming a thing of the past.

Have you ever read any articles regarding the problems that Face Book has caused people. Lots of them.

They forget everything else in their lives and live on Face. It is an addiction for some.

I doubt any of the thousands of Forums on the Internet have caused any real problems
for their members.

I can't speak for others but I know why I haven't been checking back as much.
The for sale section is becoming boring and I can't comment in there...for me a forum is all about the interaction, good or bad with that gone I find myself not really looking much. It's not like I have a lot to say or comment about those for sale stuff but I enjoy reading some info other AZers can provide about certain cues.

Let's face it, the For sale section was the main traffic driver for AZB and I think it's pretty obvious that traffic started dwindling with the new regulation allowing others to post there.

^^^^^^^^^ What He Said! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I don't have a soap box so a beer box might have to suffice :)

Some of you have complained about the content.
You are the content.
How do you really feel about what you post?
Would you read what you post and like it?

Some of you object to the mistreatment of newbies and/or professionals.
How do you personally react to a question from someone that has been asked and answered before? Do you cringe?

Some of you have complained about negativity.
Are you negative too, even in such a simply profound way as to suggest that this place sucks?

Some of you want what you want and damn everyone else.
Are your expectations more important than anyone else's?
Is exposing us to your anger, emotional outbursts and invective obloquy so important to you that you don't care who else is affected by it? Because that is the epitome of selfish .

In other words, this place is a direct reflection of you, and it will only ever be as good as you make it. Which means taking the initiative to post quality, exhibit tollerance and understanding, ignore the opportunity to argue or fling insults no matter how much you want to and no matter how wrong someone else might be.

Learn to let it go and learn to choose your battles, otherwise you are lowering yourself, this place, and taking us all down with you.

Beyond your own contributions, or lack of, there is a simple cycle at play here. People come and go. It's pretty normal. Don't worry, the moment people stop doing something that was popular, other people will start doing it again simply because it isn't. In the mean time, if you want a better forum, make it a better forum .

Power to the people and all that stuff.
Now who stole my bottle opener dang it

Two distinct entities:

No one should confuse good drama with trolling and pot stirring.

The kinds of drama threads we used to get were like fuel that drove az.

I'm talking about threads like when Dippy Dave air barrelled Frost and Billy and the tush hogs and stolen car and all the other crazy shit that surrounded this event.

Or when "Dildo Hair" climbed out the bathroom window in the middle of her match that wasn't going well with OMGWFT. It was amazing - "dildo hair" became google-able, part of the vernacular.

The DYD cue, the excitement during the contest, then when it became Bill Stroud firing his air barrel...

John vs Lou starring in "The Hassle at The Castle" - yes, I just made that up. :)

These, along with thoughful, informative, helpful and resourceful posts were the life-blood of Az.

When we have great posters like JoeW (a few posts above), who choose not to frequent this site because of a mean and antagonistic atmosphere, then something is wrong.

Drama can be a great thing; often a reason to look forward to returning. Good entertainment.

On the other hand, the antagonistic, mean-spirited activity only seems to be enjoyed by those who are regularly slinging it. To most everyone else, it's not even remotely entertaining.

For what seems to be a growing number, that sort of nonsense appears to be a reason to move on.

best,

Yah that episode with OMGWTF had me in tears I was laughing so hard.
She is a character.
There has been some epic stories over the years.

If I told you what I was really thinking. You'd go screaming into the woods never to be seen again. ;):D

The only problem I had with the "For Sale" section was the all knowing cueologists jumping in and scaring somebody off and ruining a deal.
When I would list a cue I would keep my fingers crossed that some idiot that believes he has seen every aspect of every cue from every builder to ever stand in front of a lathe would give some consideration prior to shooting his mouth off.

That being said. I used to really enjoy cruising the that section to appreciate the cues and get ideas for up coming projects. As well as read the positive comments and the good natured back and forth that often occurred.

AZB is meant to be bright colorful with its cast of characters. It appears to me. Somebody installed a dimmer switch along the way.

Duplicate.

AZB's morning sluggishness it getting a bit annoying.

Jive is hitting the nail on the head
the for sale section was driving the forum and it was all about interaction

people with one or so cues to sell would get lost and sink, but they are doing no better now

the excitement and interaction ceased and now we are left with nothing but a
boring classified ad sorta thing

nothing resembles fun so we are left with the obituary column discussing
a dead forum

EVERYDAY I used to go to the FOR SALE section.

I seldom go at all now and never list a cue there. The whiners bitShed and got it changed.

They got what they wanted. I hope they are happy.
