Good news about the U.S. Open

Sorry you feel that way Chris. Yes, it ain't golf money, but not much is these days. There are many sports that pay far less and have much greater expenses. I'll start with local car racing, motorcycle racing, snow skiing, water skiing, trap shooting, horseshoe pitching, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and many more that are considered professional sports.

By the way, you don't have to beat all 220 (or 256) players to win. You just have to beat eight in a row and you'll be just fine. Remember, you chose pool, it didn't choose you. See you in October.

I can't really speak for the other sports on the list...but I definitely wouldn't put motorcycle racing on that list...lol

While it's true the operating expenses are a heck of a lot more...Valentino Rossi made 24 million in 2005 and 34 million in 2007 and is one of the highest paid athletes in the world. In fact your average MotoGP rider will earn around 4 million a year and that's before sponsors and endorsement deals. Heck...even your average professional motocross rider earns between 250,000 and about half a million a year.

Hmm...maybe John Schmidt is on to something...:D

And I used to race a Ducati 250 when I was a kid. I should have never quit! We called them Scrambles races back then. Basically Motocross on bumpy trails.

That's pretty cool! I had no idea! More than a few of those old dirt track and scramble racers ended up MotoGP champions...

You might have missed your calling Jay! ;) lol

So if you grossed $4000 and your expenses were $1550 you netted $2450. If you played 8 hours a day for 6 days...which no one except Mika probably did...lets just call that 48 hours of "work".

So $2450/48=$51 an hour. Not terrible money. Yes you had to beat good players to get it but that is what you are supposed to do. You are a a good player.

I understand what you mean about the money in pool. But at the same time most people who get up and go to work everyday will say "Duh. Thats why I work for a living," But there are things of value besides what you put in your pocket. Like the freedom to do what you want. Go work somewhere for $50,000 a year with some corporate drone telling you when and where to be at all times.

We all make choices. For every time you have said "Pool sucks" there is some dude somewhere in an office or factory wishing like hell he could do what you do.

Its all good now though. You are a poker player. What could go wrong?

:D

amen. preach on brother. i don't even hit 50k a year. if i could make what i make playing pool or even a little less i'd do it. but alas, my game sucks balls so back to work my fat ass goes.:D

you got that right

I run my own business and sometimes forget about the guy in the factory that would love to be doing what I do.Wish I could play pool full time but I will
be happy with part time for now. Good post JCIN:thumbup: Also think Fatboy may have stumbled upon a good TAR match .....Bartram vs Jasmin.....just a
thought.

Now I REALLY want to go. I can't get away often or for long. I thought about Galveston, DCC, The Open, The new 10 Ball Open, SBE... they all sound great. But this is special.

Jim,
You've got plenty of time to prepare for the U.S. OPen 9 Ball Championship trip. Tune up the Studebaker, get some new tread and be ready to hit the road this fall.

Go to usopen9ballchampionships.com. Or you can just google Chesapeake, VA and look for hotels/motels near the Chesapeake Convention Center. There's lots of them, all within a block or two.
