Good news about the U.S. Open

I'm sure I'll be bashed for this but why is everyone stoked about women playing in the open?

Does anyone really think there is a woman that can compete with the top men playing even?

What kind of handicap will they get?

I would love to hear the top male players thoughts on the subject, but of course no one can say what they really think anymore.

Why do you think that they need a handicap? I mean you don't check all the player's credentials who enter the US Open to see what level player they are and offer them a handicap.

Seriously any MALE with $500 can play in the US Open and no one asks them if they can play or not.

Now PLAYERS aren't barred because of the sex they were born with.

As Fatboy said there will be PLENTY of rail action happening this year surrounding how the women do.

Since you don't think that they will do well at all what kind of odds are you willing to give up that at least one of the top five WPBA players makes the top ten at the Open this year? Show me how convinced you are that they can't play at all and need a handicap.

The odds against them are of course huge and the psychological pressure will be huge.

The reason I am stoked is because they will get the chance to compete as PLAYERS against the best in the world. Win or lose, go deep or not, they deserve this because they are players first and women second.

Now it's a true US Open and I am so glad to see that Barry has done this.

As for people saying what they really think???? You haven't been around here much have you?

Of course some players will whine and complain that the women have their own tournaments where men are excluded. So what? There are also plenty of amateur tournaments where the top male players are excluded also. Yet any of those amateurs can pay $500 and play in the US Open. I am sure that Johnny Archer doesn't mind drawing Bob Smith the doctor from Evansville who just wanted to be able to say he played Johnny Archer in the US Open. Once again, the only credentials you need to play in the US Open are $500.

That's awesome. And right!!!

Spot went home.
I say let 'em get up there and play! Jasmin damn sure doesn't need a spot from anyone! Do you know how many top men players she has beaten already?

she can beat anyone a set for sure.
but she does need a spot from the top men come on jay.
like i said she can beat anyone a set for sure.

Chris, a lot of guys (you included) need a spot from the top men. And you beat Mika last year. So what's your point?
Maybe only the top sixteen players in the world should get invited to the U.S. Open. Because everyone else needs a spot from these guys.

my point is you said she does not need a spot.
like she plays even with them.
i said she can win a set vs anyone.

Did you need a spot against Mika? Do you play even with him? Again I ask you, what point are you trying to make here? Do you feel that women players like Jasmin should not be allowed to play in the U.S. Open?

if you cant read i know i spell bad.
my point is you said she does not need a spot like she plays even with good men players.
i just said she does not and ill bet on what i said.
thats as clear as i can make it.

I never said she plays even with top men players. I said she doesn't need a spot playing them in a tournament. Perhaps you didn't read the thread I was replying to, where someone inquired about a tournament where women got spotted games.

Chris, the U.S. Open is not about gambling in some poolroom. It's a tournament, where everyone gets to experience the pressure of playing relatively short sets against other good players. Some people can handle it and some can't. It will be interesting to see how the top women do in this spot.

You did pretty well last year for a guy more known as a gambler. Donnie Mills didn't do so badly either, did he?

Chris, I'm going to give you a chance to win some money at the U.S. Open betting against Jasmin. Without knowing who she will draw, I will bet you $100 every match she plays. I take Jasmin, you take her opponent. Simple enough. Bet?

hahahahhahh
its money but think of this it cost 550 to get in about 1000 to get there and hotel.
so what did i make not much.

So if you grossed $4000 and your expenses were $1550 you netted $2450. If you played 8 hours a day for 6 days...which no one except Mika probably did...lets just call that 48 hours of "work".

So $2450/48=$51 an hour. Not terrible money. Yes you had to beat good players to get it but that is what you are supposed to do. You are a a good player.

I understand what you mean about the money in pool. But at the same time most people who get up and go to work everyday will say "Duh. Thats why I work for a living," But there are things of value besides what you put in your pocket. Like the freedom to do what you want. Go work somewhere for $50,000 a year with some corporate drone telling you when and where to be at all times.

We all make choices. For every time you have said "Pool sucks" there is some dude somewhere in an office or factory wishing like hell he could do what you do.

Its all good now though. You are a poker player. What could go wrong?

:D

I make nearly 3 times that much and still just dream about being a pool player....

Excellent post.

dated?

Jay I'm willing to concede my thinking may be dated on this subject. But first of all I never said they shouldn't be allowed to particapate, I'm all for that as long as they put up just like everyone else and I'm with you lets leave spot at home.

I just happen to think the realbartram is right on target. Jasmin may be an exceptiion I don't know but for the most part the smooth gambler has it correct. Just because he might need a spot to play Mika doesn't negate his point in my opinion.

Of course Barry has every right and should be applauded for inviting and/or even encouraging women to "post up" and if they do they will close the gap eventually.

quantum leaps!

JB cases - where did I say I didn't think they would do well at all? Before you go off you might want make sure you read what was said.

I asked a question or 2 -

You said the odds against them are huge - why would you say that?

I would love to see Jean balukas win it, unlikely but it would be a historic event.

I'd love to see Jean play whether she won or not and if Mike Sigel is ever going to play in the Open again wouldn't this be a good year for Mike to play. The top ladies will add a lot to the Open and I can't wait to go. I already have my VIP seat paid for.......

like i said she can beat anyone a set for sure.

She took 3rd in the world 14.1 championships, beating defending champion Oliver Ortmann in the process. I don't know anybody else who has taken 3rd in the world 14.1 championship who needed a spot from anybody.

I always was a fool for a beautiful woman but I think she is a legitimate top tier player. Not just a beautiful woman who plays pool, a great pool player who is beautiful.

Mr Bartram, would you match up with her in a long 14.1 match for some serious money?

if you play Jasmine in the tournment my $$$ is on you. If you get her to play a 10 ahead set(I'm going to rob ab bank to get more $$$ to bet on you with)

No disrespect to Jasmine she is the top girl right now in the world and perhaps the strongest I have seen play since Jean B.

Allison, Karen, Jeanette all roll the balls in, Jasmine fires the balls in. Vivian can fire them in too I have seen her do it one time here in Vegas in action, some guy pissed her off, she caught a gear and looked like Earl for 30minutes while homeboy she was drilling sat there red from embarassment.

I truthfully believe it comes down to muscle, there are fast and slow twitch muscle fibre, I'm big but weak-even body building I looked strong but wasnt. I believe that Jean and Jasmine have similar muscle tissue as most males and good insertion points giving them good biomechnics that allows them to fire in balls like guys do, people who roll balls cant win in the long run against someone withthe capability to accurately fire in balls.

this isnt a knock but how many girls have you seen play banks? its a shame more girls dont play 1P Jeanette does and more should because 1P takes touch and Allison, Karen etc have that skill mastered.

To suggest that the women pros may do well, because Donnie did well going to the U.S. Open is seriously flawed logic.

Or did I misread the argument you were making?

One more misread, but your comprehension is seriously skewed anyway.
