Just wondering the boards opinion on this one...

Never going to happen, although playing even with their own money no backers Grady would win hands down!!!!!!!!

It is amazing how few people play with their own dime these days, and it is also amazing how much this will effect the out come of any match when people are playing large.

Grady has been Playing on his own Money all his life, so even when I consider the difference in age my above opinion doesn't change.

Oh and by the way, I respect both these player!!!!

I do not mean any disrespect, but who is this Grady? I never heard about her?

Oooh how I wish I got to see this before anyone else. I would have told you to edit it before the flaming occurs. First Grady is Grady Matthews and he is....well a he. He is a very well known player in the billiards world.

Jasmin doesn't gamble, and never will, so if they will ever play it will have to be in a tournament setting.

If they did happen to play either 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball or straight pool I would go ALL-IN on Jasmin. She would be stealing.

FYI, she has never played one single game of one-pocket or bank-pool, so obviously he would be stealing in those games.

Btw: it is very interesting that the poll right now says 36 on Grady and 35 on Jasmin. It WOULD be fun to watch a match like this, because as someone said it is old-school vs new school, stroke vs knowledge, man vs woman, old vs young etc. I think it would be a good DVD, but it won't happen.

Pity, really, because I would love to make those 36 voters go bankrupt :D

Hey Roy, do you think she will ever play in the Mosconi Cup for Europe?

Just Curious:smile:

Just Curious:smile:

To be on the team she will either have to be ranked within top 16 on the Eurotour, win a Matchroom-event like the World Pool Masters or World Championship, or she has to be hand-picked by Matchroom.

She doesn't play all Eurotour's, so being ranked top 16 is almost impossible. She could definitely make it if she played all, but still that alone would probably not be enough.

She can win for example the World Pool Master, and she has been selected to play in it. And trust me, she IS going to win a major one day. She was close when finishing 3rd in the World 14-1 Championship

If her team, Austria, wins the World Cup of Pool, there is a chance that she might get picked as a wildcard, but I doubt it. Atleast not this year.

But I wouldn't be surprised if she would represent Europe within the next 5 years. It's definitely possible, and I hope it happens.

I just hope, that the Austrians won't make her to some kind of "Sharapova", or so, where marketing becomes more important than the game...
She is very talented and focused, so she will make her way.. how far she can get will be something yet to be prooven... she has many young players even in her own country to keep up with, not to mention the rest of the world..

Regarding that Grady Mathews.. honestly, I never heard that name before, but I am not around in the pool world for a long time, so I appologize for that (you are sure that Grady is no female name, too?)
What qualifies him to make him a higher ranked player than Ortmann, Immonen, along other great players who got beaten by Jasmin already?
I think she can beat anybody on a good day, however if it doesn't run, as anybody, she too would be in trouble...
I just wonder, why moeny games are so much more relevant for you guys, than tournaments though? Of course it needs a lot more "cojones" to put your own money on the line, however you at the same time still judge Earl by his streak on US open wins?!?
I still like to see ANY match of Jasmin, so lets have it in a livestream please! ;)

She doesn't gamble???? i always wonder about players that don't like to gamble

She doesn't.

Neither does for example Thorsten Hohmann or Ralf Souquet.

I've tried numerous times to bet with these people, but it's impossible.

They just don't bet on anything, pool-related or not.

It's like night and day with gambling vs. tournament play. Anybody who plays decent can pull an upset over a top seeded player...(happens all the time). This won't happen in a 3+ hour gambling session.

With due respect to Grady, a stellar player in his day and a man who has done many great things for our sport, this matchup would be a massacre. I believe Jasmin would win at least eight of every ten races to 200 in a long session if they played even. Also, as did one other poster on this forum, I think Jasmin would be a favorite giving Grady 160 on the wire in a race to 500.

In last year's World championship event in New Jersey. Jasmin beat Mika in a race to 200 and then beat Ortmann, the defending World Champion and many time World 14.1 Champion, in another race to 200. She has established herself as one of the most elite straight poolers in the world, finishing fifth, ninth and third in the last three World 14.1 championships.

Conversely, Grady was a non-factor in the Maryland State 14.1 Championships in June, failing to reach the last sixteen againt a credible field, but one lacking any of the top eight finishers (Feijen, VanDenBerg, Bustamante, Ouschan, Ortmann, Schmiidt, Hohmann, See) from last year's World 14.1 Championships.

Grady was a great player, Jasmin is a great player. It's really that simple.

Who knows what an in-shape Grady Matthews can accomplish? Would Jasmin have massacred 60 year old Willie Mosconi? Remember that this man came out of retirement AFTER a stroke and won a world title.

Perhaps Grady was unable to get to the top 16 in the Maryland state championships but so what? We don't don't know what his motivation and mindset were at the time.

I would wager quite a lot - basically all I could if Jasmin ever played Grady blocks to 500 giving up 160 points. I still think Grady has it in him to play straight pool at world class speed.

And actually it IS a two person tournament. When two people agee to play with each player putting in an entry fee and making it winner take all then it's not considered gambling in most states.

I think that Jasmin would play if it were an exhibition game and both players got paid.

Perhaps something like $8000 to the winner and $2000 to the loser.

Judging by the comments on the board I am certain that there would be plenty of folks willing to "sponsor" the event. I am certain that any other monies the sponsors would like to earn can be handled privately between them and whoever would like to take the opposing side.

Mosconi's stroke occurred when he was in his early forties, and the post-stroke world 14.1 championship he won was in 1957 at age 44. In 1966, aged 53, he retired from competition, no longer sufficiently competitive at the highest level. Yes, Jasmin would have beaten the 60-year old Willie Mosconi, though she'd have had been an underdog against both the 60-year old Joe Balsis and the 60-year old Irving Crane. Still, these three are on the short list of the greatest players of all time, long-time Hall of Famers, and even Grady wouldn't count himself in their company.
