I wouldn't leave out Tad or Ernie. Two innovators in cue making who also happened to make nice playing cues.

Tough to say. I'm a fan of BB's design, elegance & execution but i'm not sure if he's better than Thomas Wayne in terms of design & execution. They are so different that it's too hard to compare. As for playability, my vote goes to Gus & DPK, though the crown could go to any of several builders in this department. Every cue is different so it would come down to the individual judging. But given all around best, i'd lean toward BB if the rumors of playability are true.

Looks - Black Boar
Playability - Any cue with a Predator shaft....

Has to be DPK

i agree.i got his book recently and the stuff he was doing in the 70's was way advanced and ahead of his time and the other cuemakers of that era.

Greatest cuemaker

Since I can only comment on cues I've actually played with I'm going to go with....
Lambros and Kikel. Both are not only perfectionists with aesthetics but they play incredible! Lambros cues are especially sweet hitting.

Gus gets my vote all day long based on what I know. I have asked alot of questions, met alot of cue makers, and played with everything. The only other person who might be a contender would be Mr. Bushka. I dont know enough yet to say for sure.

Tony is awesome for sure, his work is amazing, it has improved alot in the past 15 years too, but all due respect to him he isnt the greatest ever. however he is among the greatest with out question.

It's a toss-up between Kevin Varney and Eddie Wheat -- but, for now, the jury is still out on this one. :D

Burton Spain!.....this guy MADE blanks for Szamboti......Balabushka.....and I have no idea whom else. Others might be more popular, but this guy had few equals!

Of all the posts here, this one makes a lot of sense. Burt is soooo underated. George was producing buzzy cues until Burt figured out that a phenolic ring in front of the handle controlled the tendency. That, and his phenominal forearms make this guy the best cuemaker ever.

To me: Burton Spain and Gus Szamboti. Both of them for what they have been the very best at: making blanks. Their exceptional, totally outstanding and incredible cue designs are just a slight addition to what mentioned above. Considering that their equipment had been way less sophisticated and fine than what is used today all that they achieved using those tools become even more valuable and demand even more respect.

I have never ever seen anything superior to these:
