Have you ever been defeated by a banger?

. One time though I was in a bar and a drunk guy wants to play for $50.00. This is the best part, he has a cue with no tip on it. We play the game and through a number of amazing rolls he wins the game.

I cant beleive you fell for that old move :grin-square::thumbup:

A few 8ball bar tourney single game. I run to last ball or 8 ball and be hooked the rest of the game while they miss 4or 5 times leaving me hooked.

That's more or less my story. It sucks when the guy stands up there, slams the cue ball around and gets every roll. You can do nothing but shake your head..

I am a banger and used to beat a lot of good players.

Now I rarely leave the house but when I do, I still win a lot.

I rarely play safe and go for almost everything.

In nine ball I use a lot of H and H.

I hit them hard and hope.

If you have a user name on a pool message board you would be too into the game to meet my definition of banger.

In a race to 2 or 3 in a game of nine ball or even eight ball no one is safe. I once watched a really good player i know lose 5 straight games of nine ball in a row to a banger. It was a handicapped tournament and i felt that the banger was severely under handicapped and I actually complained to the room owner (td) about it before the game. This banger guy was making all kinds of shots but had no position play what so ever and he was hitting every ball at warp speed of course. For the first four games the good player was hooked solid every time the banger missed.

The banger clearly had no idea how to play nineball, he didn't even know about ball in hand rules and it had to be explained to him. Then of course he put the cueball in a hopeless spot, and still managed to run a few and hook the other guy, all accidental hooks of course. In the final game the banger finally scratched, but the good player was so rattled by the games that had gone by that he actually missed the nine. He left the banger close to the head rail with the object ball close to the foot rail. It was a long bank or a tough cut to the right. The banger cut the ball to the left!!! It was one of the most incredible shots I have ever seen. The angle must have been close to the theoretical limit, because the shot was hit at near break speed and the ball just barely made it to the pocket! How he kept the whiteball on the table I'll never know:grin:. I don't think any player on the planet would have been a favorite to make that shot, the sheer distance and the speed with which it had to be hit..It was miraculous! I looked at the good player and we both had our mouths open, it was hilarious actually. The banger came second in the tournament with the original handicap...

Damn, I love all these stories you guys posted but this is the most touching and motivational so far. Our brave banger warriors fighting to the end and winning against all odds. Like watching those historical movies where a small, hopeless rebel army made of pesants defeats the elite royal troops. Or Navi in avatar beating up humans. This one also reminds me of one of my own best shots. Similar situation, but last pocket 8ball. CB near the foot rail, next to the right pocket, 8 frozen on the head rail, also near the right corner. My pocket was the upper left corner pocket. I blasted with break speed as well, almost 90 degree cut, and the 8 rolled slowly and perfectly into my pocket. CB went up and down several times but remained on the table. One of those "wow" moments :D

Yes.

Lost 7-2 in a slop 8-ball race.
Put up some cash and I won 9-1 in a call pocket 9-ball race.

Playing slop anything with a banger is like gambling at the horse track.

I have said it before and will say it again.

I played APA 9 ball and was ranked pretty high, dont remember what but like a 7 or something.

They would always play a 2 against me.

There is no pushout in APA nineball. It just killed me. I couldnt win. Maybe I could now, but that is reason I quit playing it.

That's why I won't play APA 9-ball; I do play APA 8-ball for fun with friends on Tuesday nights, though.

If the APA would allow jump cues or pushouts in 9ball, I'd play.

Must have the best "banger" in the entire world.

I was taking instruction and books back when I WAS a banger, and even afterwards
I was just an "educated banger" for a while. It takes a while to outgrow it.
Bangers have a lot of funny ideas and opinions and they're reluctant to let go of them
until years of experience beat it out of them. Some of them never let go.

I've lost to worse players in 9b and 10b countless times, it's easy...
I'm sure it happened last week. Rattle the game-winning ball. Then they step up and sink it.
In 8b it's a little less common. But even then, there are guys 4 speeds below me who
can still run a rack, and the instant you play people who can run a rack, you can lose.
Even if you're the best player in the world. Pool's funny like that.

Yes, I have lost to a banger. It was APA 8-ball, about five years ago. She was a SL2 and I was a SL6. I remember it like it was yesterday......but I don't want to talk about it. I'm still trying to forget that day!!!

Let me add however, that there was a LOT of luck involved in that match. :frown:

Yeah, but that was in a handicapped format which is supposed to make it even (or more even) anyway. Most likely if a 2 was playing you an even race to 5 she wouldn't or couldn't win.

Every time that I can remember losing to a player well bellow my speed was a very short race, 1 or 2.

I remember one 8 ball race to 1 tournament, playing by bar rules, called shot though. I ran out the table including a great shot from me, a called bank though the other guys ball which was a foot from the pocket (so I banked into his ball, then my ball followed though that spot into the pocket). I ended up hooked on the 8 because all of the other guy's balls were on the table, and kicked it. Hit it, cueball went 2 rails and into a pocket. According to the rules, that's a loss even though the 8 stayed up.

Lost that "set" and the guy never even touched his cue.

I actually have an opposite story which actually makes me feel a bit sad for the other guy.
Local room tournament, a few new players came in as a group and joined the tournament. Obviously they were non-players who were the best of their group of kids that hang out, maybe could make a few balls on purpose. I win the break, and break and run almost 4 racks of 9 ball on the poor kid. I felt really bad, but things just rolled for me that match, I'll remember that for a while because as I was running out the 4th rack I kept thinking, here this kid came to play and have some fun and I'm almost running out the set on him (I went to 5).

beat by banger

That use to be one of my best hustles, go in room on monday tuesday-drop 10-15 $$ on 9ball to local factory workers. come back on fri-sat after payu day, win 125-150 week. just shumming the water!!!made more at pool on week in thyan my job- delivering coca-cola-65$ week. lo lo good times!!!:thumbup:

I also have a story that made me feel a little bad for the other guy:

There was a benefit 8-ball tournament held for a local member of our APA leagues who had cancer. Lots of people showed up in support of this well-liked member, so it was decided that the races would be to 1, because of the many that entered the tournament. A lot of BCA league players showed up too, and I drew one in the first round. I won the lag and he racked the balls. He told me that he needed to run to the bathroom and to go ahead and break and shoot until I missed. He left, I broke. I made the 8-ball on the snap, match over (yes, there were PLENTY of witnesses). He came back from the restroom and I offered my handshake. He complained that making the 8 on the break isn't a win. I informed him that he was playing in an APA establishment, in a tournament held for an APA member, and one using APA rules, and in the APA, making the 8 on the break is a win.

I honestly felt bad for the guy, but hey, if he would have done the same thing, he would have taken the win too.

Yes, but as others have said, only in very, very short games/races. Only in 8 ball/9 ball. Bangers don't play Straight Pool or One Pocket for what I would think would be obvious reasons.

Oh well, that happens... Was the APA guy cured from cancer?

He made a miraculous recovery....to the extent where people were questioning whether he really ever had cancer in the first place. I didn't pry. When I donate....it's done.
