I am the storm
Silver Member
First of all I want to thank all of you for participating this year, what a star filled field from 20 countries. I humbly apologize for those that have to wait until next Tuesday to cash your checks. My intentions were good but realizing seating 300 people less with general admission tickets was a huge loss of revenue. Also, with 70% now of credit card sales at Q-Masters, it takes several days for these batches to hit my business account receivables. All will be fine in one week.

Next year, corporate checks will be ready to cash at the bank of your choice in America or overseas. We will decide which bank would be the best choice to be able to cash checks right away. No delays or wire transfers for the 40th and beyond.

Also last year using 8 sets of bleachers which hold 50 people each totaling 400 general admissions. By using all risers, table, and chairs this year over 200 seats were lost for the $10.00 all day or night matches which surely made a huge difference. Again, players and fans I’m sorry.

I as well as my staff do our best but sometimes your best is not good enough. Next year’s 40th anniversary will be a milestone and we will continue to do our very best by having a larger venue, having corporate participation as well as more from our billiards industry will surely help with the outcome of next year. My staff; Roberta, Janet, Pineapple, WT, Mark, Robin, and Debbie did a fantastic job all week and it was also most difficult for them as well as my 68 plus years of age self. Everyone from Q-Masters did an awesome job also. Thank you Jay Helfert, Karl Kantovich, Scott “The Shot” Smith, and Pat Fleming and his loyal Accu-Stats crew and announcers.

Does BB really have a staff member named pineapple or is he referring to his daiqueri?

No, he's the gate man. His nickname is Pineapple. Really nice guy! :)

Anybody who's ever been to the Open will recognize him.

Here's a YouTube Interview with Pineapple ---> HERE

Hmmm...the venerable Pineapple huh? I'm assuming that this is a person?

I used to have a colleague with the moniker Hambone. He was about 38 years of age of self at that time. Had a wife that had the given name of Tammy. She became known through lore and legend as Tam-bone. Had Hambone been part of my event staff, I probably would have used his Christian name. But not if it were a pool event. Hambone would have fit just fine...

Yeah, he is for real. He stands by the door to the venue and checks to see if you have a ticket to get in. I like him.

I was trying to find a photo of him to include in this thread.

Thread drift. If you are not a Gold Member of AzBilliards, you're missing it. SO many COOL POOL photos. While I was looking for Pineapple's photo, I came across this one of Keith and Efren taken at the Open. You click where the red arrow is in the upper right-hand corner.

I'll see if I can find a photo of Pineapple. If you've ever been to the Open, you have seen him for sure. Can't get in the venue without seeing him. ;)

Here's Pineapple standing at the front door to the tournament room where the red arrow is. You have to show him your pass or ticket before you enter.

AzBilliards Gold Star goes out to who can name the other three men in the foreground.

Barry's announcement really means little any more.
He said he was going to prove himself, by doing the
right thing on his own, this year. Sorry !

Everything in the Sun trust account, and that was the last
time anyone heard about that account. LOL

Man, you're good. You're really good.

I hereby bequeath to AtLarge the AzBilliards Gold Star for today, Tuesday, October 21st, 2014. Enjoy your Gold Star proudly.

Sounds good, as par usual with Barry. Honestly, I thought that this year was supposed to be like next years promisings using Sun trust and all.

He always acknowledges his mistakes in any press release and promises that next year will be different. Something the same as advertising, "Free Beer". Tomorrow.

Now, if someone can figure out how to keep his hands off the mike, they would get 12 Gold Stars.

RE; Banking / Cashing Cheques
Perhaps use the Bank of America?
Seems to work for the SBE and for me with no problems cashing with oversees passport

Trying to remain positive...

Well I for one am thankful for the explanation. I don't really see any wrong doing here other than his lame attempt at sarcasm while he was drunk. It takes a lot to run these tournaments and I for one am thankful that he puts in the work to do it because no one else would.

I believe there are several different people that would take this tournament, if Barry would allow that or sell it.

For now lets just hope that Barry does make those high dollar checks good, I believe what Jay said about Barry doing the right thing, now we just have to wait and see.

I Think BARRY is going to come threw this time!

There were a few members that posted re paying a high dollar amount in advance for VIP seating. Only to arrive and find out that their chosen seating arrangements were changed. Or to have others sitting in those spots or people crowded around them as to make it uncomfortable for them to watch.

This is another item that obviously Barry doesn't have a problem by either ripping them off or by inconvenience.

I wonder how many others have been put in the same situation.

I pre pay and choose seats for any concert that I attend. If I were to get there and someone else was sitting in my choice seats, someone would be giving me a refund fairly quickly, and or, making it right by me.

These Fans have vowed not to return.

Just another problem that Barry hasn't or should address in the future. Less attendees and less purchasing Streams means much less money also.

People seem concerned with the players being crapped on. What about the fans, that are paying a gate fee, special seating and supporting the vendors while there.

They are equally as important.

Barry has already gone on record as stating that in 2016, the errors he will likely make in 2015 won't be repeated. That's comforting.
