Is there any poster here that could help me.

I'm looking for a system to aim a certain shot:

When the cueball is very close to the object ball and I have to cut it to pocket it. Anyone here have a system that really works for every close shot????? This may be my toughest shot.....SPF=randyg

My system involves bending over and kissing my ass goodbye!

This is one of my hardest shots as well. I?d like to hear what peoples got to say.

BTW Randyg, SAM is still working for me!

Try standing back further than you normally would. I think a lot of people stand too close to the table when lining this shot up.

It is my theory that you should stand back far enough that you can see the relation of the cue ball, object ball and pocket.

S.A.M. is the BOSS...:-)

I actually do pretty well on these shots, have no idea why.

It's the long shots that get me.

I am a good player playing as an SL 7 in the APA. After the aiming video the other day I tried one shot from the draw string, the length of the table, extreme cut to the corner pocket. The balls were about 1.5 inches apart and I made it two of four times which I thought was pretty impressive. From there I worked on a consistent speed and adding throw correcting english and made it three of four with the miss being a rattle. From other spots this shot missed terribly I can assume from myself not realizing what I am doing at extremes and perhaps this being an in between angle.

My regular aim for thin cuts is to stand behind the object ball and pick a spot on the rail that gives me the object ball travel line. When at the cue ball I keep looking at that spot to ensure I have not lost my perspective on where to hit the object ball. I usually use a tad of english to correct for throw.

A higher stance is most effective on these shots.

Yes sir, I agree. I really trying to examine my cut angle in relation to the part of the cueball I will be using for contact. Since they are close it is a fairly easy task. I don't know if thats confusing or not, works for me though. I just shot a ton of them. They don't bother me to bad now.

I tried both of these recommendations. So I went across the street and up on the roof. POW right in the hole..... what a great system.

Close shots

Stand back, look at the shot and the contact point on the object ball.
Get down on the shot, and look at the contact point with your inside eye only for the contact point. By doing this, it corrects a normal aiming misnomer for close shots.

And I, almost all the time, shoot them with inside english.

Agreed,

I stand closer to the table and higher, I think being able to see the face of the ball you are shooting is a big advantage.

or

Just shoot about 10,000 of them one day.

All I do is CTE and pivot it in... or 90/half or 90/reverse90 and the ball goes.

Either way, the ball goes.

I don't know too much about SAM, but if it's the boss... why don't you use SAM to make it? Just curious.

I've more or less been depending on deflection/squirt and aim away from the OB with outside english, that it almost looks like the cue ball will MISS the cut. I just let the cue ball deflect/squirt into the OB. Experiment using soft medium and strong stokes for the cut.

Whack hell out of them!

I use the WHOT system. I stand up straight where I can see what I am doing and hit the cue ball with a semi-masse. I do this cutting or banking when the balls are very close together. Don't remember if anyone ever showed me this or I picked it up somewhere along the line. I don't miss too many of these.

Here it is...

I remembered something I read a long time ago, and thanks to the internet I found it and don't have to botch up the explanation... :)

It's an article that appeared in BD by Bob Jewett (and is now on his website) about helping to estimate aim when the OB is close to the CB. Like many of the aiming systems being discussed, it helps get you in the general vicinity and with some practice will refine your perception where you probably won't need it anymore... :)

I can't help you, I'm into Break Shots...
