I second that Hu. Seems something's fishy in Denmark, er, uh, Athens, Alabama. (The young'uns are probably not old enough to know that phrase....it means "ca-hoots", trickeration or like you said, "bamboozled")

There has to easily be over a hundred people in the US that can't be beaten giving them the breaks on a bar table without a lot of other gaff conditions.
Although you don't get ball in hand after the break you do have the option of playing safes, possibly can push out too. I'd rather be able to play safes than have ball in hand so I'd say this is considerably easier than playing the ghost.
Kinda like with those old Paul Harvey tales, I'm still waiting to hear the rest of the story.

i dont know the players you mentioned, however i am interested where these sets were played. i am from athens, al and i would have to say there are some great players there. as a matter of fact one was one of the best unknown players in the U.S. in his day. he owns his own pool hall. when i first started playing if it was slow he would play me cheap sets race to five for $5.00. he would spot me 3, 5, & 7 and i never beat him a set! great shooter and could get out of a safe like houdini. " great lessons". that is strong, doesnt matter who you are playing. back to my point i would like to know where you found a bar table in that town? the county was a dry county ( no booze ) until a few years back. no bar boxes in any place that a real money game would take place. not doubting your story just really curious where they found the bar box?

How many will take the break on a barbox, and if the other player makes a ball they win? Henny has lost at this everytime in Athens. A top player will give up the wild 5 on a barbox before he gives up the break to a weaker player that can run out. I do remember many years ago, Allen Hopkins beat everyone who would bet playing this way on a valley barbox,no ball in hand, in Manchester,Tn at a place called Sissy's. For the person who lives in Athens,you have 2 diamond barboxes,1 diamond 4 1/2x9 and a diamond 4x8 all pro-cut at Ricky Peppers poolroom across the tracks from the old poolroom. I know i would rather have the break over the wild 5 on a barbox.

thanks for the info. i dont live there any more, and last few times i went home i didnt get to town to play any. too little time to spend with the folks and we are not getting any younger. ill have to check out ricky's room when i get back home. interesting still those guys always played one hole.
