These replies never fail to get ugly and stray from the original purpose. As I understand the question,it is "Does and should the term Hoppe style refer to a certain style cue and should that style conform to certain historical measurements?'
The question is not"Can any given person order or make a cue of his own to be something like an original hoppe style with his own creative additions?"It is should that cue be called Hoppe style?
The question as I understand it " Is it correct to call a cue Hoppe Style unless it conforms more or less to the original style, design and specifications of the original hoppe cues."
Again the question is not"Is a cue maker an unethical individual for claiming to sell a Hoppe style cue, when in point of fact,he has strayed from the original specs to a greater or lesser degree?"
I ordered a Hoppe style from one of the best cuemakers in the nation,Scruggs, and my good frieng Mike Cochran, one of the most conscientious cuemakers you could find, put an extra 1 inch piece of ivory under the ring as a special bonus for me.I looked forward to the cue for months, but when I got the cue I was disappointed because I wanted the single traditional ring,I never hit the cue, never liked the cue, sold it for $750 more than I paid, and ordered another one with the traditional design. No one was at fault, the term Hoppe style meant one thing to me ,another to him.
Not everyone is so particular as me,but I believe that the purpose of this thread sought to address this situation. "Is a Hoppe style cue something exactly like the traditionanal ones or just a generic term for a cue with a single ring of various sizes?
